Peb fort, also known as Vikatgad, rises to a maximum altitude of 2,050 ft and was primarily used as a granary and watchtower by the ruling armies. The strategic location of the hill provides a commanding view of Chanderi fort, Nakhind hill, Malanggad, Tahuli, Prablagad, Kalavantin Durg & Matheran plateau in clear weather.
Located approximately 80 km from Mumbai and less than 120 km Pune, it’s conveniently accessible by public transport.
The unique location of the hill affords it a panoramic view of the entire Matheran range. A temple has been constructed at the top of the fort and is believed to shelter the footprints of Swami Samarth. Be aware of the monkeys though. If you can brave them, a splendid sight awaits you!
Matheran is home to abundant flora and fauna. An opportunity to combine a lovely walk along the Matheran valley with the Peb fort trek, makes it even more alluring!
This video was shot on 11 December 2021, which happens to be International Mountains Day.
I had planned to complete a range trek starting from Peb fort and ending at Garbett Point.
Peb Fort has two major routes:
1) Anandwadi / Fanaswasi ( electric tower route ) : Challenging route
2) Junction 134 : Easy route

How to Reach Peb Fort / Vikatgad from Mumbai / Pune :
1) For Anandwadi route:
• Reach Neral Station (Karjat line)
• From Neral, Anandwadi is 3 KM. You can either walk to Anandwadi or take a rickshaw (One way ride is ₹120)
• If coming from Pune, take a train to Mumbai and get down at Karjat
• From Karjat, take a train to CSMT and get down at Neral and follow the above steps.
2) For Junction 134 route (railway tracks route) :
• Reach Neral (Karjat line)
• From Neral, take a shared cab and tell them Peb fort Starting Point Or Junction 134 (it's very famous so they know it) (They charge ₹100 per seat for one way)
