Cummins 450ISL - Engine Air Filter Replacement - DIY Save Money!

  • Save money by replacing the engine air filter yourself! In our case, the air filter for our Cummins 450ISL engine should be replaced every 2 years. The labor cost was $110...so I do it myself in about 20 mins. You want to be sure you replace it even if you are not using the coach as it is a paper filter and thus will degrade. If it gets sucked into your turbo and then into the engine, you are in for a major repair bill! So be sure you replace your air filter!

    David it is so wonderful to see you out and about again. I looked daily to see the posting of a new video and here it is. Thanks for sharing the information on such an important item and how to change it and install the new one. You are a great teacher on so many things related to how to maintain your coach properly. Tell Brenda and the your dog hi for me. I pray that the surgery went well and took care of all the yuck. I will continue to pray for you and hope that you will keep us informed on how you are doing. You look wonderful and I pray that you are completely healed. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Stay safe and healthy. Happy adventuring

    Great Video David. One point that would like to add is to meticulously clean the rubber connection at the turbo. On our coach there is a bit of dust buildup around that junction and cleaning it precludes getting dust in the turbo while changing the filter.
    As always thanks and congratulations on your treatment

    Thanks for sharing Dave. I have the same filter and engine on my 13 Newmar Mountain Aire. The location is higher up and filter sits horizontally to the left of the engine. Makes it easier to replace in some aspects but I have to reach in farther to get the clamps off.

    Dave, thanks for the part number, went down to Empire Truck sales in Jackson MS, picked one up 120.00, took 25 minutes start to finish and using a small amount of lithium grease on the rubber fittings made it real easy in the cold weather to put it back together. Thanks again for all your help your timing as always is perfect. I was thinking about changing that filter at Christmas and then you post a video reminding me to change it. Thanks again!!

    Great advise on changing every two years, most never fill up before they start decomposing,
    You lost me when you were showing the inlet and outlet, the inlet is supposed to be on the outside(more surface area) of the filter, then I saw why you said that.
    The mfg of the coach had no room to install it any other way.
    Please don’t take this as an insult on your knowledge or ability, with this configuration you can never get the full capacity of the filter.
    You might consider even shorter change intervals if driven in dusty conditions.
    Great advice and good job on the video.
    Safe travels

    Dave what was the part number of the filter and where did you get it from? we have a 2014 45LP Coach and its time to change ours. The previous owner changed it right before we purchased the coach in October 2018, so we are due.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi...I picked it up at Bay Diesel when I was in Red Bay. (Thus I knew the labor cost.) The part number on the receipt is... FAR/094973-007 ($126.08) It is not small as you know, so shipping will add to it.

      Really? I did it in less than 20 mins and that included me talking about it at first. That would be equal to $330 a hour. :) Some coaches are even easier. (But then again, some are harder.) All in all, some people like to work on their on coaches and some don't...so I get it. :)
