I wish i would've started collecting Halloween blow molds before the internet got ahold of them and made them popular again. Now I'm priced out of the majority of these decorations. At least there are videos like yours to help me to remember these pieces of Halloween...
my favourite is that haunted house, very cool! not $500 cool, but still great! second would be the ghost carrying the skull, that would make a great scene for a model, some apparition putting his bones back together.
The skeleton with the black background and the Ghost holding the orange pumpkin look like big versions of Gurley candles. I wonder which came first? I remember having some of those blow molds and still use the Empire patio light toppers to this day. Love these videos . I'm glad I discovered your channel and am now a subscriber.
Thank you very much! I don't know which came first, but I suspect the candles did. I haven't heard of Gurley ripping off sculpts from other products. But I can imagine a blow-mold company doing that. I'm glad to have you as a subscriber!
blow molds are great because you can get a huge product cheap, but you won't get super fine details or undercuts. there are several videos on the process, but basically the melted plastic is extruded into a melty cylinder, the mould halves close, pinching the bottom part together, then an air tube inside the cylinder of plastic blows the plastic into the mould shape. lest you think it's just for products like this, blow moulding is used to make your plastic bottles and many other products, so it's very much an every day process used in products possibly with an arm's reach. if you have a prescription bottle, pop bottle, or aspirin bottle, you have blow moulded stuff. i just wish this was a process the average person could make stuff from.... anyway, i love this stuff, great job. you must own a warehouse!
Thank you! You have provided a different perspective. I tend to think of blow-molded items as being limited to holiday decorations, toys and novelties. But they are all around us, every day. But some of these household items seem to have a different feel and texture than the toys and decorations.
@@RaymondCastile oh, for sure, and it's easy for toy collectors to focus on what that process means to us. i've spent most of my life as a wage donkey working in auto factories, and i've seen a lot of processes, so i guess i'm somewhat more interested in the way things are made more than most folk. there are a ton of processes and easy to get them confused, but i guess i'm weird cuz i find them interesting, lol.
The Scarecrow pumpkin with black top hat was remade and sold at Michaels crafts this year. The plastic mold is real hard and you cannot put light in back of the one that was sold at Michaels.
Late to the party comment here, at my mom-in-law’s right now and she has the black cat pumpkin combo one in the 13 minute mark. I remembered this episode, and cued it up for mom in law to watch. 32:00 I grew up with that ghost, and the ghosts with pumpkins, also in mom-in-law’s inventory.
@@RaymondCastile agree. Thanks. Michael’s stores has a currant release ghost holding a jack o lantern, a black cat sitting on a pumpkin and a vertical stack of jack o lanterns. Menards, Lowes and Home Depot have some good current ones also.
Also that first owl mold was used for home pest control during that period to ward off birds rodents etc from your property can be hung from a tree . I know as I saw an ad from an old outdoor catalog and recognized the mold. (In fact you can still buy fake owls/hawks today although much more realistic for the same purpose) Which would explain the non halloweenish color variations . Perhaps the non black cat variations were used for that purpose as well.
Thank you for that information! Even without seeing a catalog, there is something about the way the owls are sculpted and packaged that make them seem more like farm supply items than Halloween decorations.
1:19:20 Because of my love of spooky old houses, when I learned about the Empire blow-mold haunted house on the Universal Army Message Board, I bought one I found on Ebay, and it is a favorite Halloween collectable. I think the same house was available molded in green, but can't be sure.
I recognize the connection between some of them, like the ghosts and the skeleton. In the Halloween merchandise business, everybody rips off everybody else.
Your collection never ceases to amaze! I appreciate all the cool & different types of novelties you collect. Looking at some of those blowmolds, I thought certain designs would lend themselves to retro cloth collectibles. I see companies offering combo packs of wall decor & tribute masks for Halloween. I'd love to see combo packs of retro blow molds & rack toy figures. Probably a market of five guys who would buy into that, but cool nonetheless. Great video as always!
The Skull/Bat you showed is made by Clinton, the same company who made the Glenn Strange Frankenstein Candy Bucket. My favorite blow molds are the haunted houses, especially the Empire you showed (BTW, mine has the hole cut out of the bottom, too). The green Bayshore Haunted House is very cool as well.
Thank you for that information! The Bayshore Haunted House is another hole in my collection. It's not one of my favorites, so I haven't prioritized getting one. But it would have made for a more complete video if I'd had one, plus a few other lanterns.
Hi Raymond, Knew you'd have something cool for Halloween. Blow molds bring me right back to my childhood, and the more faded the better sometimes. The only holiday decorations that actually can get character from a patina. Awhile back we chatted briefly about me dismantling my Yamaha CS-60 for hard to source waveshaper chips for the Cs-80's. I took both CS-80's and the 60 to a respected guy for the transplant surgery. Halfway through, I couldn't take it anymore, instead I did a reversal and am having a complete overhaul don'e on the CS-60 as well, and even found someone with working voice cards they'd sell to finish the job. Anyhow, you came to mind for getting into the Halloween spirit, and for your thoughtful CS-60 compositions. I have a few Halloween songs that kinda just happened over the years, would enjoy hearing you compose something that way. Cheers
I am glad you are not sacrificing the CS-60! I hate to see them cannibalized for 80s. Nobody takes parts out of a Prophet 5 to fix a Prophet 10. Is there a place I can see or hear recordings of your Halloween songs?
Where can you buy topstone candy buckets I've been looking all over can't even find them on eBay I was just wondering if you could point me in the right direction on where to find them
So happy you did a video on Halloween blow molds! They're my favorite "vintage" Halloween collectible and your video did not disappoint. I'm more of a casual collector like yourself and have some Empire pieces. I like to pick them up around Halloween time when they start popping up in thrift stores. Also, do you happen to have any or know of Rosbro Halloween candy containers? They would make for a great episode next Halloween season. Anyway, stay safe out there. Looking forward to the next video :)
Finally a video on Halloween blow mold lights. My wife and I really love these. We need more. You have a lot of the highly sought after light. That bat with the skull is really neat. I'll need to keep an eye out for it. Also , there is another haunted house that is in gray plastic and much bigger than that one you showed off. That one is high priced as well. One day I will have it
Thank you! I know about the Bayshore haunted houses that another viewer referenced below. They are tall and boxy looking, with a jack o'lantern in the window and a cat at the door. I've seen them in orange and green. Are you talking about a different one? I don't remember seeing another haunted house, though I'm sure there are many lanterns I haven't seen.
@@RaymondCastile I believe he’s referring to the Union Products Don Featherstone 25” Haunted House. I bought one several months ago snd it’s nothing short of amazing but they are skyrocketing in price. 3-4 years ago you could get one like new for $150 or so. Now they are selling for almost $400. The blow mold hobby sure has taken off and there are a lot more collectors for blow molds now than there were 4-5 years ago when I got into this hobby. So many collectors are holding on to this stuff so some pieces are becoming quite scarce. The Union Products Don Featherstone Haunted House is no exception.
Scott, I just looked at that Don Featherstone haunted house. I’m sure I’ve seen them before, but I hadn’t really taken note of them. I don’t see myself owning one. It’s too recent (1995) and doesn’t have the vintage aesthetic I like. At $400, it’s an easy pass for me.
Are you still going to do an episode of the candy pail blow molds? I’d love to see what you’ve got! I have a lot of the same blow molds you have. Just bought the Empire Haunted House on eBay tonight lol You have several that I still want! Great video. Not enough videos like this out there for us collectors. Thank you!!
Congratulations on the haunted house! I was watching that auction, out of curiosity, but I haven't checked the ending price. Yes, I will do a candy pail episode this October. I am already kind of dreading those Halloween episodes...they are so much work! They are going to stress me out!

Thank you so much for triggering many fond memories. BTW, do you have any of those Halloween flashlights with the monster faces covering the bulb in you collection?

This is a hobby that i share with the missus, so I'll probably hold off watching this because she'll want to see what you got too...
I hope you both enjoy it!

Mr. Castile, have you ever been to Frankenstein, Missouri? Anything wacky there?
No, I have not. I doubt there is anything interesting there!
