I set up my first "grown up" home some 30 years ago. I bought a set of good quality, heavy--bottomed stainless steel pots. They were expensive; I had to save up to buy each one, but I have been using them every day since and they still look brand new. They are a joy to cook with and I know I'll never have to replace them for as long as I live. Now that's sustainable!
Love, love, LOVE my corelle dishes! I've had the same set for YEARS. One of my favorite features is that they are oven safe. Odd bowls of leftovers can go right into the oven, so fewer dishes to wash. We are a big corelle family, my mom still has hers that she bought when we were kids, and we are now in our 50's. The original green flowered pattern. My advice, make sure you love the pattern before you buy it, because you will have it forever.

I’m running to see if my blender fits my mason jars! I love the use of the different lids for mason jars because I have a million of them and didn’t even think to get different lids! I also use my jars as Tupperware for left overs, organizing anything and everything in my kitchen for loose popcorn, dried beans, seeds, nuts, just everything I can! Your videos are inspiring and relaxing. I love that your a minimalist from scratch momma! I learn so much from every video! Thank you!!!
I didn’t even know there were blenders made from glass!!! I’ve trying to find one but never seemed to find one. Thank you!! And it’s perfect how regular mouth mason jars fit!!
I used to love corelle. Then I had a bowl drop and shatter in the kitchen. It was the biggest mess I have ever seen. It covered my kitchen, dining room and even out into the hallway. It took me hours to clean up. So now, I don't love corelle anymore. Granted, we only ever broke the 1 but I was so worried I had missed some somehow and one of my kids would end up with it in their foot! We love glass jars here too and I have the same blender as you but you seriously just made me so happy to learn about using the blender blades with a mason jar! Never occurred to me! So awesome!
I love my mason jars, as well....I love to use the vacuum sealer (Food Saver has an attachment to use with jars) with the mason jar lids to store grains, flours, left overs in the fridge for longer storage, etc. So even more uses for the mason jars!
I love your choice favorites, I too have corelle dishes that I have had over 30 yrs, I sometimes think I should get a new set, but why mine is perfectly fine, Bosch mixer, Lodge cast iron, stainless steel pot and pans and I love my Vitamix blender that I’ve had over 20 years, all great investments, in the end you save money.
Truly, videos like these are so inspiratiational and motivational. I redid my whole downstairs. I still did use Corelle when my son was little. My grandmother always collected fine China and I was hoping to get some. I ordered some on line, but it looked different at home. It grew on me though.
We live full time in a small travel trailer, so space is at a premium. We have the travel Berkey and absolutely love it! No matter where we are we know our water is safe and delicious.
My Japanese vegetable cutting knife is an absolute must have. It cuts through vegetables wonderfully. I have some cutco knives as well but nothing compares to my vegetable knife.

We're a mismatched Corelle family too! I initially bought them for space saving reasons because we we're moving into a 500 sq. ft. home. Now I wouldn't trade them because of the durability. Someday I'll be able to use my wedding Fiesta dinnerware again...but in this season with 4 little people...I'll stick with Corelle!
Do you home school your children? That may be too personal of a question but I am curious. I adore you and the fact you live debt free and have many children. My dream is to be a stay at home mother and wife and just create an uplifting family home. Thank you for setting an amazing example. 💗
You can buy those arcopal dishes at ikea for 79 cents each! Big plate, small plate and bowls. They are called arcopal and Corelle is just a brand that sells arcopal in the US.
My mind was BLOWN when you put the blender blade on the mason jar. Like wow. That brand is brilliant. You are brilliant and I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight because my jaw will be on the ground still contemplating how frikkin awesome that is!!!
I love your channel! I just found it last week. I love cooking from scratch and homesteading/natural living. I use a lot of your kitchen essentials as well. Mason jars and glass storage are a must-have. I use my crockpot all the time, I never even thought about the coating on the insert being toxic. Maybe I'll look into an instant pot sometime... There are only so many changes we can make at once, I guess! I love my toaster oven--can reheat food without microwave. Also love my little kitchen gadgets that make life easier: garlic press, lemon squeezer, large ladle strainer... And my giant one gallon airlock jars for fermentation. My sauerkraut came out much better when I switched to an airlock jar. Thanks for the great video!
Loved this!! I've been collecting second-hand corelle dishes for years, last year I found a set of 10 regular bowls and 10 snack bowls for $1 TOTAL at the thrift store. They really are the best dishes when you have kids in your home. We use so many similar items...I also have a mix of cast iron and stainless cookware. The only thing I use daily that I would have to mention is my coffee maker, lol. I have a Bunn coffee maker, so I use it to make coffee and heat hot water for tea throughout the day.

my fav. storage is a gallon glasslock storage container for soup etc for the frig. it is rectangular and has a handle on the lid. it fits perfectly in the frig. I gave one to my sister and one to my niece telling them this is my favorite bowl. immediately they said "favorite bowl??" later they said "I love that thing!"
Vitamix Gave my blender, food processor, away because a Vitamix does so much, including cooks hot soup. So for someone with a small kitchen and or limited counter space its a time saver. Second would be my 6 1/2 quart enamel cast iron Le Creuset Dutch oven that I got 12 years ago. Dish's are Fiestaware.
What a difference makes the enamel cast iron Le Creuset Dutch oven comparing to the normal pots? I used to have iron pots before, but never saw a difference, except that they were too heavy... I am not interested in keeping the food warm for longer... Pls, if you can answer me from your experience, thank you.
i love mason jars and i have started to reuse and buy only glass containers. it makes more sense in the long run and reduces the amount of plastic consumption. one small step. 🙂
Also yes about glass storage- and similarly, pyrex. I love the old square or rectangular pyrex dishes with a glass lid- I can store the food in there and then, as you say, warm it right back up in that container and serve it. And they are pretty! :)
Ah! I've been using Mason jars for cups since I've been married. I have never heard of the interchangeable lids. That is going to be such a game changer!

In my personal experience as an avid Corelle user from a Corelle family (my grandma still uses her multiple decade old ones), I bought the set with plates, side plates, bowls and mugs. Their newer mugs aren't made of the same light weight glass the dishes are made with and if I could go back, I would just purchase the smaller set with the plates and bowls since i ended up favoring my larger, sentimental ceramic mugs over the Corelle mugs. Also the patterning tends to come off over decades of use and machine washing; just a note.
Great video! We are buying a Berkey this year and I'm so excited to see yours. Do you know that mayo, grated parm cheese, and peanut butter lids fit Mason jars? That was a game changer for me. I was buying the white lids and didn't know that these others would fit just as well. Also, the grated cheese lid has a bonus of the side for spooning out the contents of your jar or shaking the item out with the hole side. Love your videos and eagerly watch for each one. I sent your cast iron one to my niece because I just bought her a skillet from Goodwill and she was unsure how to use it. Thanks for all you do!!

Lisa! I'm baffled, your so perfect ,and so young ,and what a great mom. I'm going to look for Corel in thrift stores now lol. My 93 year old mom swears by them and I grew up with them. Mine are from potterybarn. I purchased them about 15 years ago I've never broken one but they are so so heavy. I have also been thinking about getting rid of my crockpot and investing in an instapot, I've heard such great reviews on them.

I would add to the list...good sharp knives. Invest in 2 or 3 good ones: a chefs knife or Santuko, a bread knife and a carving knife. I also would recommend some good spoons ie wooden spoons, a good spatula and good tongs.
I have my mom's 1960 CorningWare 'Cornflower' pattern set of casserole dishes (a white glass-ceramic material). They are sturdy, go from oven to table to freezer and food cooks well in them. I have no need to purchase any other pieces. The original sets were discontinued but you can find plenty in thrift stores as Baby Boomers like me, donate them after their parents passed on.
I love my immersion blender! It takes up little space and comes in handy for soups and a single smoothie serving. And i didn't know the Corelle dishes were made of glass, I just read they don't chip too. Great video!
I do love mine too! Thought about including, but if I had to choose between my regular blender and my immersion, the former could get more done than the latter. :)

WOW I have been going to thrift stores and purchasing a hodgepodge of Corelle dishes. I love them. They are much harder to break however yes they can. I love how thin they are and they don't take up so much space in the cabinets.
After watching your video about clutter, I was surprised you got rid of your bedroom set. I thought you would have painted it. You also didn't sound frugal in that video. A big contrast to saving to pay off your home and living debt free. You could be saving on craft items, the bedroom set and etc. of course this is your choice and way of being clutter free. These things just surprised me and I admire you and love your house. Paper clutter is my biggest problem, can you tell me how you get rid of old Dr. bills and pre-approved credit card applications? Hey Lisa, I was wondering if you have ever tried (or considered trying) a vacuum-machine? I recently stumbled across the Vacuvita, wich seems to fit right in with your other kitchen essentials (except for the fact that this one happens to be plastic, but I imagine there are similar products made with more durable and sustainable materials), being multifunctional, durable, longlasting and would help prevent foodwaste in most homes. I just found your channel (and blog) today and I just have to say I love your down-to-earth approach to these topics of minimalism, real food from scratch, organic, home-made lifestyle. Most people seem to get .. well .. sort of hippy-like and fanatical about these habits, with no room for deviation or interpretation. Thank you for reminding your viewers that all of your advices are based on what works for you, not universal law that has to work for everyone. Your approach gives me the feeling that i don't have to completely overhaul my life today, I can just ease into the lifestyle that I want, gradually changing for example the way i cook.
Oh my I had to comment on the Corelle dishes!!! After going through sets of ceramic and them breaking between my kids my husband (and myself), I realized my mother in law had had the same dishes since I had met her! I asked her about it and she said they were just from Walmart lol!!! I invested in some and will never go back!
I LOVE Correll ware! They can break. But rarely. We actually donated all our China which we never used and just saved up for a “nice” plain white set with scalloped edges. We don’t have a to , If we had a huge get together honestly I would have no qualms in using paper plates, but for regular company or small gatherings, or just our family… We love it.
Love all of your content and inspiration thank you for posting. I would add a juicer to the must haves and a vitamix I know its plastic an more expensive but its a multi-task tool and a beast that can make smoothies out of frozen fruit with no problems
Love your videos. Love your essentials. I also love the fact you have a cheap but great blender. In most videos, you cannot find anything but the Vitamix. I have one because my mom left it for me but I hate for people to feel like they can't have healthy food without it!!!!

I just bought a Farberware electric pressure cooker and it's changed my life! (the store told me that the Instapot has recalls out on it now and had pulled it off the shelves). No, really. I hate to cook and am not good at it. I try, I burn and I try again but this has made every meal I put into it simple and delicious without hardly any clean up. I love it, so does my wonderful husband.
I also switched to Corelle last year when they were on sale in Target. Love love them for the kids. I wanted to know if you’ve tried the Ikea tempered glass once and if they would be very similar and durable as Corelle. Their price is very tempting.
I know this is an older video. I have been watching your channel for some time now, but decided to go back and watch videos that I missed or skipped along the way. This was one of them I wanted to comment on the corelle dishes..Although the pure white one are fine, the ones with the color have been found to have high lead content in them. Especially the gold embossed ones. Hoping this news is NOT new to you and you have already discarded them :-)

I've owned my Bosch for about 35 years. It was a wedding gift. It has a good, heavy-duty motor and is still running beautifully. Just love it.
Berkeys are so pretty. I think they look great with farmhouse decor. Can’t wait to get mine. Not an eyesore in the least.

Corelle is the best. In over 18 years of use, only one was broken- by an older child who intentionally threw it on the floor in a fit.

Lisa! I'm baffled, your so perfect ,and so young ,and what a great mom. I'm going to look for Corel in thrift stores now lol. My 93 year old mom swears by them and I grew up with them. Mine are from potterybarn. I purchased them about 15 years ago I've never broken one but they are so so heavy. I have also been thinking about getting rid of my crockpot and investing in an instapot, I've heard such great reviews on them.

I would add to the list...good sharp knives. Invest in 2 or 3 good ones: a chefs knife or Santuko, a bread knife and a carving knife. I also would recommend some good spoons ie wooden spoons, a good spatula and good tongs.

I have my mom's 1960 CorningWare 'Cornflower' pattern set of casserole dishes (a white glass-ceramic material). They are sturdy, go from oven to table to freezer and food cooks well in them. I have no need to purchase any other pieces. The original sets were discontinued but you can find plenty in thrift stores as Baby Boomers like me, donate them after their parents passed on.
I love my immersion blender! It takes up little space and comes in handy for soups and a single smoothie serving. And i didn't know the Corelle dishes were made of glass, I just read they don't chip too. Great video!
I do love mine too! Thought about including, but if I had to choose between my regular blender and my immersion, the former could get more done than the latter. :)

WOW I have been going to thrift stores and purchasing a hodgepodge of Corelle dishes. I love them. They are much harder to break however yes they can. I love how thin they are and they don't take up so much space in the cabinets.

After watching your video about clutter, I was surprised you got rid of your bedroom set. I thought you would have painted it. You also didn't sound frugal in that video. A big contrast to saving to pay off your home and living debt free. You could be saving on craft items, the bedroom set and etc. of course this is your choice and way of being clutter free. These things just surprised me and I admire you and love your house. Paper clutter is my biggest problem, can you tell me how you get rid of old Dr. bills and pre-approved credit card applications? Hey Lisa, I was wondering if you have ever tried (or considered trying) a vacuum-machine? I recently stumbled across the Vacuvita, wich seems to fit right in with your other kitchen essentials (except for the fact that this one happens to be plastic, but I imagine there are similar products made with more durable and sustainable materials), being multifunctional, durable, longlasting and would help prevent foodwaste in most homes.
I just found your channel (and blog) today and I just have to say I love your down-to-earth approach to these topics of minimalism, real food from scratch, organic, home-made lifestyle. Most people seem to get .. well .. sort of hippy-like and fanatical about these habits, with no room for deviation or interpretation. Thank you for reminding your viewers that all of your advices are based on what works for you, not universal law that has to work for everyone. Your approach gives me the feeling that i don't have to completely overhaul my life today, I can just ease into the lifestyle that I want, gradually changing for example the way i cook.

Oh my I had to comment on the Corelle dishes!!! After going through sets of ceramic and them breaking between my kids my husband (and myself), I realized my mother in law had had the same dishes since I had met her! I asked her about it and she said they were just from Walmart lol!!! I invested in some and will never go back!
I LOVE Correll ware! They can break. But rarely.
We actually donated all our China which we never used and just saved up for a “nice” plain white set with scalloped edges. We don’t have a to , If we had a huge get together honestly I would have no qualms in using paper plates, but for regular company or small gatherings, or just our family… We love it.

Love all of your content and inspiration thank you for posting. I would add a juicer to the must haves and a vitamix I know its plastic an more expensive but its a multi-task tool and a beast that can make smoothies out of frozen fruit with no problems

I just bought a Farberware electric pressure cooker and it's changed my life! (the store told me that the Instapot has recalls out on it now and had pulled it off the shelves). No, really. I hate to cook and am not good at it. I try, I burn and I try again but this has made every meal I put into it simple and delicious without hardly any clean up. I love it, so does my wonderful husband.

I also switched to Corelle last year when they were on sale in Target. Love love them for the kids. I wanted to know if you’ve tried the Ikea tempered glass once and if they would be very similar and durable as Corelle. Their price is very tempting.
I have never tried those. I wonder if they would be less breakable like corelle is.

I wanted to comment on the corelle dishes..Although the pure white one are fine, the ones with the color have been found to have high lead content in them. Especially the gold embossed ones. Hoping this news is NOT new to you and you have already discarded them :-)

Great video, Lisa. When I was at IKEA a few weeks back I noticed tempered glass plates. I believe they were a dollar a plate!
My essentials are mason jars, IP, wax wraps, and blender. Wouldn’t be happy without those.
