Ice scraping, potholes galore, noisy snow plow trucks messing up the streets, snow shoveling, falling, salt damaged ashy cars, numb fingers.....who wants THAT???? A spoiled Floridian who never experienced bull crap cold temps below 40. A bunch of spoiled brats living in a tropical nirvana and whine and complain! Move to Youngstown Ohio in January! I'll be VERY entertained to see how a Floridian reacts once they actually feel -20 degrees!

After living in Dayton for 15 years, I felt like I wanted to fucking scream just as much as I want to now where I'm living at in NC. El Paso, TX was heaven for me! Nice, cool, dry, sunny weather 300 days out of the year!

      @HaunaMyKiki Před 9 lety +6

      StarWarsTrains It depends on how far south in FL you are. I mean obviously, no matter _where_ in FL you are, it's never going to snow (unless it's once in a blue moon in some random city, then EVERYONE across the state makes a big deal about a couple flurries that are never going to stick). But the more south you go, the less temperature difference between the seasons you'll get. South Florida is virtually no change at all. Central Florida is some change. North Florida is about on par with a south Georgian winter.

You can see it swirling in the street lights at night, but I feel like it's good for my skin. You guys got more Asians, more Mexicans, more Muslims.... in other words more exotic people; you actually have variation in topography, you don't have this damn humidity, you're next to the most epic ocean there is, and if it is more windy that is a plus for sure.

The life in the city full of amenities from San Diego to Sacramento. Florida Is also beautiful, is hot and humid but that's why everyone has AC. The beach is warm and some areas like Pensacola has white sand so pretty! Both states are pretty amazing. Cali is very expensive too live but also the pay is higher. Florida Is not cheap but less expensive but good luck finding work that pays.

  • @mellisaalvarez4859
    @mellisaalvarez4859 Před 6 lety +27

    Here's the thing:
    Florida is beautiful! The beaches are breath taking and the palm trees are relaxing, but it is so humid you can't really do much. The few weeks that I was in Florida I felt like I was suffocating when outside. You take a shower and all of a sudden you're sweating again, which if you are okay with that I don't suppose you care much. Also, Florida just has too many bugs. I would walk outside and I would get 10 mosquito bites. I would use repellent and they would still find a way to make their way back to me. It was annoying. Also the green landscape is so beautiful, i never knew something could be so green until I went to Florida! But it is so flat. You just see green flat grass everywhere!
    California on the other hand is not humid, not too green, and not flat. There are so many dimensions to California. This is what makes California so much better in my eyes. You could be up in the snowy mountains at 9am and be down at the beach at 11am. You could be snowboarding at one hour, and be surfing the next. California is just beautiful and there is so much to do. From the walk of fame, to the Santa Monica pier, if you have time and money you will never be bored in Southern California.
    Also we have beautiful weather, with nice night breezes, and warm sunshine.
    California is also unnecessarily expensive, why it will cost me up to 1800 for a two bedroom apartment is beyond me. Also we have wildfires, and bears come to our back yard (although if you ask me, they're so cute!!) The taxes are also up the roof, and we have SO MUCH DAMN TRAFFIC. It has taken me about 2 hours to drive 30 miles. It is ridiculous. Our roads are much bigger than Floridas too, but we just have that many more people living here.
    Also, all the famous people live here, and depending on who you ask it could be a blessing or a curse.
    End of story: California is just more diverse in landscape and culture, as to where Florida is a lot more affordable and humid.
    :)

California has a lower crime rate overall, much more inclusive and not racist, has higher wages and a very high cost of living. In CA, on the current min wage, it's possible to live with roommates in some cities, live in a car, or even in the expensive cities like San Francisco, if you look in the right places, you can find a place you can live off of min wage in. And in some cities, it's possible to forgo car ownership saving you a lot of money in CA

    I've been to California, and I can confirm what you've said in terms of what Los Angeles is like. Part of the reason Los Angeles is rather dry is because of the cold ocean water in a relatively low latitude. Now, if you go to the far Northern California, that is one of the rainiest places in the USA.

    • @GeographicScholar
      @GeographicScholar Před 9 lety +1

      Juliana Selem Oh yes, that famous quote from Mark Twain. It's a bit of an exaggeration, but I get what he's saying. San Francisco doesn't get very warm during the summer. Even Seattle, the northernmost large city of 500,000+ people gets warmer in the summer than SF. However, the warmest part of the year for SF is in September. The Bay Area is an example of "banana belts". One can go from one part of San Francisco city to the other side of the city and temperatures will vary by a few degrees. I look at all of this from a geographer's perspective.

    No girl, California isn't "a dessert"... the SE part of the state is a dryland, but in no way that means the state is a dessert... Some of the world's most fertile soil in the world is in the San Joaquin Valley in central California. The Sierra Nevada mountains are home to the tallest trees in the world and some very cool, even cold weather during the summer. The Northern part of the state receives more precipitation on average than most of the country, almost as much as WA and OR. When you're back to CA, you should travel throughout the state so you see all of this. Btw, come back soon, we miss you.

    I used to think California was hands down the better out of the two, but I'm really split between the two after watching this. I've not been to either state, but I have friends I know in California and Florida, and they actually seem to think the other state is better.
    Here's what my Californian friend said is good about living in California:
    -Palm Trees. He wasn't very specific, he just sent a picture of the Palm Trees on a boulevard. Tbh they do look very pretty.
    -The Californian Landscape. Unlike Florida, which is just beaches in the South and swamps in the North, California has a very beautiful picturesque landscape extending past just its beaches. If you head into Northern California, you can find some breathtaking forests, and head into Central California, you'll see some beautiful mountains too. Florida doesn't have this. It's either beaches, swamps or beachy-swamps.
    -The weather. In California, the “worst” season is when it rains, which is literally just a couple of days in March and April. Also, if you suffer from SAD, California may be just the place for you, as there really is no winter in California. It's always sunny.
    -The lifestyle. Hands down, California has the most going on, and all of its liveliness is spread out through the state, which can't really be said for many other states, with the exception of Texas. The Californian people are really energetic, and it sure isn't a place for people who like to take things slower.
    -Never far from anything. As I said, with the exception of Texas, California has its attractions and services spread out, which can't be said for a place like New York or Illinois, which is all centered around one or two cities. Everything is close, you can be at the coffee shop in 5 minutes or among rolling hills in 10 minutes. You can be in the mountains or the beach in about an hour.You can be at Disneyland (by car) by at least 7 hours from anywhere in the state. Everything you could imagine is quite literally at your fingertips.
    -Hollywood. And it's not just that! There's Beverly Hills, Century City, Laguna, etc. California is a big, big state. And California is practically self-sufficient, if it were a country, it would be the 7th biggest economy in the world after France. The “Valley” of Northern California there is a ton of agriculture, cows, horses, farm life, sunsets etc.
    Now, here's what my friend from Florida said what it's like living there
    -It is hot and sunny most days. As well as just being more pleasant, this means that you can plan an outdoor event knowing that the weather is likely to be good.
    -No state taxes to pay. The Sunshine State doesn't tax you, so you just have federal taxes to worry about.
    -Lots of world class beaches and state parks to enjoy. Plus even if you live inland, because of the shape of the state the beach is never far away - you can usually venture out to the coast and be back on the same day, whereas living on the Nevada-California border, it would take you longer. Much longer.
    -A great place for yachting, sailing, diving, swimming, or going for a cruise, thanks to the warm weather and scenery. Plus there is surfing too, of course.
    -A great place for outdoor sports, such as golf and tennis. There are lots of high quality facilities and the weather means that you can play pretty much all year round.
    -Lots of theme parks (for example: Disney, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens) and leisure/recreational venues for all the family. There's never any reason to get bored in Florida.
    -Plenty of interesting and exotic animal life. My friend just says don't be surprised if there's a gator in your yard. She says there kind of like the Racoons of Florida, just much more vicious and reptile-like.
    -Lots of springs, rivers, and lakes to explore. Plus there's the Florida Everglades.
    -The state is cosmopolitan with a very mixed population - lots of different groups and types of people of all ages. Perhaps only New York or California has a greater cultural diversity.
    -You can buy a new home for a relatively cheap price in many parts of Florida.
    The cost of living is relatively low in much of the state (though not everywhere).
    You can grow oranges and grapefruit in your own yard.
    Now, here's the cons of California:
    -Too many people. There are far too many people.
    -Earthquakes. Don't be surprised if your house starts shaking, especially if you live in the San Fransisco Bay area, every now and then. You don't know if it's just a tremor or all hell is about to break loose sometimes.
    -Hollister douchbags. Yeah, this is what my friend said. Hollister douchebags, people who are rich and hip and won't shut up about it. These people are often the ones who give 'Liberal California' it's bad reputation.
    -The cost of living. If you’ve heard that it’s expensive to live in California, then you heard correctly. My friend lives about an hour from San Francisco, and he says the cost of living is still ridiculous. We said he cries a little inside for how far money goes in most other states.
    -It's really dry. Like, really dry. Some humidity wouldn't hurt you know. Also, most of South California is just inhospitable desert.
    -Family. If your extended family is not in California with you, then this is a huge, huge con. Not only is California so large, it's the fact that once you've moved there, you normally stay there. Apparently, many people just go so attached to the Californian way of living, they don't want to leave, even though they could get a much cheaper place near where their family lives. My friend in California originally comes from Illinois, but in the nine years he's lived in California, he's only been able to see them twice. If you want a fresh start, I guess this isn't really a con, but you'll rarely get to see your family if you move here.
    And the cons of Florida:
    -The heat and humidity can be oppressive, especially during the Summer months. Even if you are in the shade, you still sweat.
    -The weather can turn nasty sometimes. It rains a lot and it rains heavily. Thunderstorms can knock out your electric, and lightning strikes are very common. Hurricanes can be disruptive and destructive if they come near you. My friend says 5-minute rainstorms are pretty common
    -Florida is completely flat. It can make driving around tedious and if you like mountains, hills and valleys, this state is not for you.
    -Lots of bugs everywhere, some of them very large in size. The roaches and the fruit flies are a real nuisance and you have to be scrupulously tidy when cooking or dealing with food. There are also snakes, spiders and scorpions to contend with, as well as hordes of bloodthirsty mosquitoes.
    -Some areas of Florida can be very touristy and over-commercial, especially the Orlando area.
    -The state's population is exploding and placing an increasing strain on things like infrastructure and natural resources, such as water.
    -Very little public transport, you have to drive everywhere. The only land travel alternative to the car is the buses, which offer only a very minimal service in most places.
    -You don't really get four seasons. It just gets less hot and humid in the Winter. If you like to experience the progression of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, you might be disappointed.
    -South Florida suffers from high crime rates and a very high cost of living in some places, whilst North Florida isn't much better, basically swamps with gator-hunting rednecks. They're practically Alabaman folk. And without triggering everyone with the one thing you seemingly can't talk about on the Internet without getting raped *cough* *cough* politics *cough* they do tend to overturn South Florida's opinions, and make poor decisions for the state overall... Jeb Bush. That's all I'm saying. Jeb Bush.
    -Bad drivers. The roads are generally good, but there is a lot of low quality, unsafe, and crazy driving that goes on. In California, people tend to be a bit more cautious.
    -Hurricanes. And with climate change on the rise, they're only going to get worse. If things continue, Florida will be entirely underwater by 2090.
    In conclusion, I think I'd overall rather live in California, although there are some things about Florida I much prefer. Take away all the overpopulation, rich douchebags and high cost of living from California, and all the over-humidity, bugs and snakes, high crime and strange news stories from Florida, and you've got yourself 2 pretty decent states.

      +davlor86 Totally depends on were you are in Cali. I lived in Cali and Florida. Florida gets very very very cold at night during the winters. Cali has higher elevations than Florida, so there are a lot of places that snow. But usually those places have snow year round. San diego is hot all of the time...

    • @davlor86
      @davlor86 Před 8 lety

      Dan Anime Well, if you mean a Florida city like Tallahassee then i agree, it can get really cold on winter. And San Diego hot all the time?? definitely not true, san diego can be even kind of "coldish" on summer and during winter temperatures can reach 40°, specially on mornings.

    • @DannyBeatz01
      @DannyBeatz01 Před 8 lety +1

      davlor86 I lived in Miami and Tampa, they we're both Cold at night and in the mornings from October to march. But this was years ago, shit even northern states are experiencing warm winters. Places like Ohio and Michigan are having 60 degree winters. That's been happening for the past few years...

    • @christinedorman3383

      Yes, but hurricane parties take place DURING or before hurricanes, not after, and they are hosted by non-Floridians who think hurricanes are fun. As a native Floridian, I beg to differ. At the beginning of hurricane season, you stock up on food you will eat at some point (canned though it is) and water and then you maintain the supply throughout hurricane season--eating the food (such as chips) if it's getting ready to expire then replacing it. Then you breathe a big sigh of relief when the season's over and get on with life.
