  • Hey guys :) Today I'm starting a playthrough of Tomb raider I-II-III Remastered. Thank you to Aspyr Media for providing me an early key !
    Tomb Raider was the very core of my childhood and to get to play them again in this new way on the PS5 is so special to me that I wanted to share the experience with you all. I hope you enjoy the jank, I have a feeling this is going to be a lot of fun. Starting here with the Caves and City of Vilcabamba! I'll aim to clear each area in the future but this was just a little dip into what will hopefully be a great playthrough!

    Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a collection of remasters of the first three games in the Tomb Raider series: Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider II, and Tomb Raider III. Each game features archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft as she travels through a series of ancient ruins and tombs in search of ancient artefacts, and is presented from a third-person perspective. Like in the original games, Lara uses two pistols with infinite ammo by default in combat, and can run, walk (which prevents her from falling off ledges), look around areas, jump forwards and backwards, shimmy along ledges, roll, swim through bodies of water, and move blocks. The collection includes new features across all three games, such as options to choose between enhanced and original graphics and classic and modern control schemes, as well as camera lock-on, health bars for boss battles, photo mode, and over 200 achievements

    My mum loves Tomb Raider so much, she wrote a letter to Nathan McCree expressing her love for the music in Tomb Raider back in the 90s, he rang her to speak to her about it and sent her a CD with all the music on and signed it!

    I love how people have called these original games the dark souls of platforming because there's something about the hands off approach by these games, the precision of movement as well as the isolated atmosphere that both share, strange to say.

    • @charg1nmalaz0r51
      @charg1nmalaz0r51 Před 4 měsíci

      i wouldnt say so, tomb raider was really easy platforming wise because everything's on a grid. You always knew what jumps you could make and what was going to happen lol.

    • @lc3212
      @lc3212 Před 4 měsíci

      @@charg1nmalaz0r51 that’s true for some it was easy but still from an atmosphere standpoint and trying to figure out where to go and how to solve the puzzles it is easy to compare it to dark souls in that sense. No one is saying it is as hard and punishing as dark souls. That part is hard to compare since soulslikes have more in the way of upgrading and combat. But most souls and soulslikes do not hold your hand and had the player figure out how to get through and in that sense tomb Raider here at least these original ones were/are the same in that way.

    You may honestly find the tank controls easier than modern. The whole game was built around them! I’d recommend giving it a go cos some of the things you were trying to do are available in the tank controls aha. Especially since she tends to strafe more in combat than run in circles (in my experience).
    Otherwise yeah, I got emotional too playing these again 😅 It’s wild how much of your childhood is locked away and will suddenly unlock in an instant.

      @Robsenairgun Před 4 měsíci +2

    • @timspace7575

      I never understood the hate for tank controls, they really aren't that bad plus since this game is more about the contemplative puzzle platforming they actually suit the type of game this is. Same with how Silent Hill and Resident Evil OGs create tension through cumbersome slow movement innate to tank control. Modern free controls are fine and all but they are better suited to fast flowing games. The control type has to match the type of game it is I feel.

      @HerrFinsternis Před 4 měsíci +2

      I don't think anyone had, not like this anyway. Aren't TR and Mario 64 the first two completely 3D games? Such a wild difference from the 2.5D worlds of Doom and Might&magic.

    • @Nightopian1982
      @Nightopian1982 Před 4 měsíci +2

      The remasters are wonderful to behold, truly. What I love is the ability to switch back to the original at will if you feel completely nostalgic. But I feel like a 14 year old again the way I'm going around checking every square inch of the levels. The love they've given these games is quite clear. The fact you get Unfinished Business, Golden Mask and The Lost Artefact included too is just another positive.

    • @Nightopian1982
      @Nightopian1982 Před 4 měsíci

      @@HerrFinsternisIt was probably the earliest globally recognised fully 3D 'platform/adventure' game, however Descent on PC was actually 3D, and was released in '94. Quake was 3D too and was released in 1996, like Mario 64 and TR. Those are FPS though, I guess.
      If you want to get really technical, Battlezone was released in 1979/80 on Atari, but it was the basest of polygons 😏 I'm not splitting hairs, by the way.

    • @HerrFinsternis
      @HerrFinsternis Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@Nightopian1982 haha yes I will probably switch back and forth between original and remake the entire time ... well, often.
      I have never played Descent and just had a look. The world does indeed look 3D (and smooth, really impressive for 94) but the models, explosions etc are sprites, not 3D models like in TR, mario and indeed quake 1. Completely forgot about that un.

Spyro and Crash bandicoot along with this are part of my core memories. After I went through all my dad’s ps1 games except the scary ones like resident evil (even though tomb raider proper scared me) I got the ps2 for Christmas to play on my own. Just downloaded these and absolutely can’t wait to run through em again after 20 years.

    I understand you completely, getting emotional like this. Brings back memories from a simpler time and how amazed we were by this game. And this is my favorite soundtrack of a game ever.

    Doom & Resident Evil got me in to playstation games back in 1999 and then the first Tomb Raider sealed the deal, i have played 100's of games since then and can honesty say no other game comes close to the first Tom Raider or 2,3 & 4. It has everything, the character, the level design, the music and rock hard to complete first time round. Started this remaster and it's an awesome remaster, hasn't lost none of the original atmosphere..love it.

    I was around 10 when I first played tomb raider on my PS1 bundle. I'm now 35 and had not played it since then... I did the same as you after those 3 notes played on that title screen Emma, once I bought the remaster. Seeing your same reaction hit me again 😢💙

    You're making me cry too! I'm in the same boat as you! Lara's been my idol since I was 8. Having the time of my life playing the remasters! I'm in the colosseum now 😊 I don't know how you manage with the modern controls. 😂

I really enjoyed your playthru & love of the game Emma! i love how they've kept all the levels & action the same but improved the graphics & lighting, it looks & plays beautifully! so i teared up when i started this, you're not alone

    Just bought Tomb Raider Remastered! Always had love for the Tomb Raider Series growing up especially playing the games from the PS3/360 era and the Reboot Series from 2013/2018 but never had a chance to play the original games from the PS1 era so getting a chance to play these games has me super excited!! Found you through this video and can't wait to play the games myself and watch you play them as well! 🙏🏽🔥💯😭

    even if you constantly go back and play the originals on playstation or PC etc etc, the visual uplift that feels like the devs original vision is stunning. Its jaw dropping and gorgeous. I think the mdoern controls are fine for what they are if a bit iffy. Great great job. Love your love of TR

    You made an important point about remembering the graphics being better than they actually were. I thought the same thing when TR Anniversary launched in 2007. That game also provided comparisons between old and new. I realised then that my imagination had actually enhanced the graphics back in the day. This happened for the first 3D games that presented “real life” environments, as opposed to just 3D mazes like Doom. Although arguably the first game to do this was System Shock in 1994, it all really kicked off in 1996 when we all moved up to a resolution of 640x480 with Duke 3D, Quake and Tomb Raider, and then continued through 1997 with games like Hexen II and Quake II, and then into 1998 which for me was the golden year for 3D games (Unreal, Sin, Half Life, Thief, etc). I’m finding that this ability of my imagination to enhance my gaming experience is now occurring in VR. I’m loving my Quest 3, but I expect in 10 years time I won’t believe how poor the experience actually was. I guess even the real world is given a “spin” by our imagination. Nothing we see is certain.

    Just subscribed. To follow up on the begging of the video you explaining your history with tomb Raider is completely understandable. Zelda was the main game for me growing up though lol. Imo Watching CZcamsrs play games they hold a special place for and have passion for like you do tomb Raider brings a certain quality to the video. Looking forward to watching your playthrough Emma but I may hold off watching your later videos till I catch up in the game myself lol. First played and beat tomb Raider when u was 8 when it first came out. My big brother got it for me to work on my hand eye coordination when I was little lol. Hope you enjoy playing through these as much as you did when you first played them.

    I am right there with you period I'm downloading the game right now and I can't wait. I am 46 and this game was my first introduction as a teenager to three-dimensional game and I fell in love immediately. Me and all my friends burn through Tomb Raider 1 Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3 probably in 1996 1997 and 1998 and I haven't played them since though I have played many other Tomb Raider games. I cannot wait. I will probably play a lot in the original pixels because it's blowing my mind that my memory of the first game Lara Croft wasn't this blocky weird-looking character LOL I'm probably not going to cry but I'm going to be having the Shivers and Goosebumps all the time LOL

    Love your enthusiasm. I was first introduced to Tomb Raider 1 when I bought my 7 year old daughter (now 35) a PS1 and Tomb Raider 1. I got so hooked I ended having to buy myself a copy of the game and another console so I wouldn't hog my daughters 😊 Nearly 30 years on and well into my 60's and I'm hooked again on the remasters. I find them so much more challenging than the modern Tomb Raiders which I've played also. Games today give you too many hints etc and puzzles are just too easy. The original games however have some really quite complex puzzles. I seem to remember my daughter coming to me saying 'Mummy can you help me with this puzzle'? and I of course was only too happy to assist. Full of glitches and weird bugs sure, but that's all part of the charm of these iconic games. Loving these games, they have surpassed themselves with these remasters, they are absolutely gorgeous now. Can't get used to the modern controls though, I prefer the old school tank controls. At the moment I'm well and truly stuck in the mines on TR1 😂

    Emaa you're the best! Thanks for sharing. I was skeptical about the remaster, but I'm sold. I got TR1 for free when I built my first gaming PC. The game came bundled w/ the video card on a CD. I still have the official TR walkthrough booklet{CZcams wasn't born yet}. I have all the TR claasics w/ the official walkthroughs. I can't wait to dive in again. My best memory of TR1 is the swan dive off the top of the sphinx-I could never master the swan dive.

    Hi, Emma. Played these 3 games back in the day as a 37 yo whose neice and nephew got me into the PS1. TR1 is still my most fave game ever and have played it on PS3 every few years or so. Anyway, totally up for watching you livestream the whole game. Started playing at midnight on Tuesday having avoided any spoilers. Wow!!
