- A genuine SUV, but in miniature
True enough, the Suzuki Ignis is no bigger than your average city car, but with its chunky, upright design, it looks way cooler. And despite its diminutive dimensions, the Ignis is a proper SUV: yes, if you choose the Allgrip version, there's four-wheel drive under there.
Let CarGurus help you find your next car:

Despite that, the Ignis won't cost you the earth to run. Its 1.2-litre petrol engine has 82 horsepower and mild hybrid technology, so fuel economy is actually pretty reasonable.
In this CarGurus UK video review, Rebecca Jackson takes a detailed look at this miniature mud-plugger, evaluating its quality, technology, practicality, what it's like to drive and what kind of value for money it gives you.

Car Gurus does great videos journalism in the world of car reviews. The hosts are all stellar, personable and professional. Love it all!
Also Rebecca is pretty and a racing car driver!
Hi. Is it too noisy ? I’m thinking about buying one but I read some people mentioning the road noise and I can’t cope with too much noise while driving - I’m a bit Asperger :P
Seulement si vous tirez sur les vitesses et ça c'est toutes les voitures thermique, sinon non.@@user-jn9lv5xh9b
I purchased the Suzuki Ignis last month (2023) and I am absolutely satisfied! Excellent equipment (I have a GL+) more than enough interior space for 4 people, very large trunk for a "city car". Furthermore, it drives with unique simplicity. It is a city car but I have had the opportunity to travel more than 500 km in a row and the driving comfort, the seating is no less than cars specifically designed for long distances, not to mention the consumption which, for the first time since I drive, are identical to those declared by the parent company. Constant pace at 120 km per hour, average consumption of 4.60 L/100km! On an aesthetic level it is so beautiful and "nice" that every time I look at it I smile! It's my first Suzuki and it probably won't be my last!
Bought one a week ago here in Australia. Base model auto. Getting over 60 Miles per gallon (Running it in sitting on 80 kph (50 mph) It has a sports mode button on the gear shifter. Only complaint is road noise which can be high on our crap roads. Looking forward to see how she goes after running in.
These are reliable, honest and great value for money. Well done Suzuki
I must admit I quite like this honest little Suzuki. As a smaller town car that is also capable for longer journeys it could be quite tempting for some. A work colleague has one and seems very pleased with it for the last couple of years. Thanks for the great review Rebecca.
Yup, a little car that can... Great fuel range, decent room, great reli ability and durability, enough features, great everyday handling, good build quality, and above all, easy maintenance on the wallet. I'm truly smitten...
I passed my test two years ago and bought an Ignis that was a little over a year old and it has been an absolute joy to drive. Even more joyful was the lower insurance cost on it for a first time driver, and when I get it to 50mph (much to the annoyance of every other driver) the petrol range just climbs and climbs. I keep seeing people refer to the car as “honest” and that is genuinely what the Ignis is - it’s a no nonsense car that will see you through!
Bought an 2017 Ignis (4wd) around a year ago. And what a car it is, drives it mostly on country roads and small gravel roads that in the winter time can be super slippery.
Its superfun to drive in deep snow, its even funnier when you drive around huge SUVs that is stuck in the snow :)
These are the cars we need. Affordable and something a little different. Great for young drivers and older ones as well. Economical and doesn't have a big road footprint. What it isn't though is an SUV. It's a city car really. And that's no bad thing with so many SUV on the road
It is not an SUV, but it will do well in the country roads and the occassional venture off the tarmac and on some dirt road on the way to some farmhouse or something. It is pretty neat for smaller, rural, towns as well.
Great fuel range, decent room, great reliability and durability, enough features, great everyday handling, good build quality, and above all, easy maintenance on the wallet. I'm truly smitten with this little car that can...
Shit auto transmissions.
Quite like these. It's like Suzuki's answer to the 2cv, Renault 4, Fiat Panda... A small honest inexpensive and practical car with a touch of character
I do own Suzuki Ignis in India. For a comfortable ride in cities of India, this car is just phenomenal.😊
I used to own this ..loved this car ...Alas had to sell...stress sell due to circumstances..but ..a perfect city car
I own the Ignis and I must say it gets the job done, be it off road, city or the highways, it handles all these conditions with easy. Plus the very good fuel economy and comparative lower maintenance cost makes it a game changer in the segment.
Absolutely LOVE my Automatic IGNIS. Have had other SUVS and still have a Honda CRV. Just need a small car now, it’s perfect 😍
I like the way you have explained about the features of ignis, our family also possess this car, especially my son loves it.
Im about to buy one of these in QLD Australia, 26k for a GLX version, no hybrid and 9 inch infotainment system screen. Weighs in about 895KG with all the lazy buttons and extras. Been looking around to slash on road and fuel costs so this is a big win on both fronts. Suzuki and i are gonna be pals for a while it seems !
Got one for the misses was well impressed with the rear space and the boot was surprisingly decent.
I got New Maruti Suzuki Ignis- Base Model in July 2022 and I am So Happy till date.
Appearance can be Deceptive with Ignis !
Light body weight and a Rev Happy Engine are Good Combo.
Easy ingress and exit for my 82 years old Precious Mother!
The model has aged well. The Suzuki isn't showing its age either. Great stuff Rebecca.
Looks great, and like most Suzukis, will look even better with some mud on it.
A peppy engine. So fun to drive and beautiful design, unique and eye catching
Although it looks like a pair of shoes box, it seems to be a really practical city car...
Okay car, though without 4x4 is a bit too ordinary,
it got a new powertrain, chassis is a bit old by now, as was released back in 2016, also it really deserve more upmarket and sophisticated displays, especially as a car aimed at younger audience, which is btw applicable to whole Suzuki lineup.
Have a 4x4 version and it’s great. Fun to drive, like a little go cart and decent space inside. Some of the interior fittings aren’t great and the touch screen looks like it has been bought after market from Aldi. Love it though
I've had a new Allgrip for a few months now. It's fine, economical and drives pretty well. In 5000km it's been tested on mixed town, country and mountain roads and some autoroutes. Living in the mountains the 4wd, coupled with decent winter tyres, will get tested soon with winter arriving. The 30l tank is annoying only allowing 500km or so but I guess it's par for the course for such a small car.
How was the winter? winter just hit us with a vengance with my little Suzuki 2 wheel drive Baleno getting stuck in the snow on a semi steep gradient. I stumbled across this video and your comment and I am curious how it did in winter for you in the mountains? Thanks!
A 4wd ignis on a broken concrete Greek mountain road is some of the most fun I've ever had. I even managed to get my wife 4 wheel drifting it.
Looks good and practical for day to day use
Proud owner of Ignis 2022
Had mine a few months ago. Great cars. I went back home and hired a fiat 500. Now I realise how well the japanese build their cars. The Ignis feels way better on every level. Personall y i agree the seats need bolsters but I like the simplicity of the dashboard. It weighs 850kgs and has a 4 cylinder 1.2 inj engine. Super reliable. Mine was 5 years old and lives on german roads that are harsh in the winter. Put the car on a lift to derust and seal etc, no rust anywhere. Impressive.
Mine doesn't have excessive wind noise or body roll on corners, in fact it's a fun car to drive around country roads.
I love the looks of this car, it's not fancy, but looks reliable and tough.
I have that one and I absolutely love it, I know how tall it is when I stand next to it, I see u standing next to it you dwarf the car
Great video ! When js the next rebecca car review ?
I have ordered one :)
Yaaaa lo tengo 👍🏻👍🏻 saludos 🇲🇽
How to disable the eco mode in my ignis
I've had one for a year, (SZ5 AWD) still love it. Some comments - MPG is better than stated, always been above 60. Agree about the infotainment, its truly awful. Speed limiter - a great feature rarely mentioned - go into a 30 zone, as you slow to 30 just press the limit button, easy as that. No spare wheel, as most new cars - I can't live with that, bought a full size from breakers. You can fit it in the back by removing the foam tray but its does take away a lot of room. Handling - I tested the 2wd and 4wd back to back on twisty roads, the 4wd does handle better in tighter corners - plus I've tested its 4wd and hill descent on some tracks, it all works confidently, but very little ground clearance. 5 gears - not a bad thing, my Vitara had 6 and it was a pain all the additional shifting. Auto wipers would have been nice but not available. LED lighting is fantastic, plus it comes on at night if you blip the keyfob when you approach the car. Lane assist warnings and crash assist (or whatever its called) are annoying. often alerting you to dangers that don't exist. Stop/start works very well, seems to stop at the right times and restart is instant with no judder or hesitation. Not sure if the hybrid really does anything at all, in the winter I found it never even worked - dealer suggested it was the low temperature but to be honest I'm not fussed. I think its overpriced (only consider it when there is the almost routine £2000 off), but a great little car.
Can you switch off the engine stop start ? Does it feel ‘tinny’ ,thank you in anticipation .
@@metalmicky You can, per journey. However it works really well, much better than my previous Vitara, its almost seamless in operation. By Tinny, do you mean the general feel of the car, the doors etc? - No not really, its light but feels solid enough. There is a hill start assist too, holds the brakes on for a couple of seconds to let you pull away. I've never fully trusted it, afraid it will let go but thats not happened as yet. I'm 18 months into ownership now, and apart from the aforementioned awful infotainment which I've pretty much given up using apart from reverse camera, I've no complaints.
@@davewalker7126 Thank you for your very informative answer, I shall put one on my wish list !
Good video , good car !!!.
Cute car & presenter
Splendid review
How's build quality
I’d go the manual and the CVT is made by Jatco and it’s long term reliability is questionable
Great review but I think you missed a bit about the point of the 4x4. In the UK this might only be really interesting for people offroading a lot but the Ignis really is the cheapest safe new car for people living in mountains with heavy snowfall or generally in rough terrain with low quality roads (if at all).
Its not the best off roader in the world but I would for sure feel safer driving this down a snowy Austrian mountain or up a badly damaged Greek mountain road than a Hyundai I10 or a Dacia...
Oh iv been waiting for my new Ignis for nearly 9 months now, I just hope the wait is worth it.
We ordered one in Belgium in September 2022 but won't get it before November 2023 !! 😪😪
Mine gets 62.6 mpg; great savings at the fuel pump.
I let out a very loud audible "awwwww" when I scrolled down to this thumbnail
Fantastic review by the host. Very informative and enjoyable.
Just got a 20 plate sz-t and more than happy
Makes Rebecca look really tall, despite being 5ft 4 and a half.
Stalkerish that mate
I'm 5ft 7 am I short
Not sure about the cars style but really like the presenter !
Nice!
It's Fab little car, drives lovely, plenty of room in boot, fun drive, live the colours and easily read dashboard. 😂what did you going around corners?? plenty of support in seats and no knee banging. Parking a doddle, never noticed the road noise but I did have radio on, (not loud) great fun car
This would be nice to have in the states.
Finally, someone that properly pronounces Dacia
perfect!
Commentaire en français est il possible ?
Lovely car, lovely presenter
In India you get this car for less than half the price in UK. In Indian rupees around 7-8.0lackhs.
Yes but it's made in India, and does not have that Made In Japan quality. Also missing the Hybrid engine right? Higher emissions and most of the safety features missing too.
@@blurayffan66 perfect
I hope Suzuki sells a lot in the UK too.
Nice triceps.. 💪
Great design. Too bad we can't have these in the USA. It would be a big hit in cities.
Why can't you, surely you can.
@@vijitkothari6502 Suzuki doesn't sell cars in the US/Canada, only 2 wheelers.
@@ShubhoBose ok, until a few years back they used to, one needs to import then.
@@vijitkothari6502 The USA has very tough standards on crash testing, and these itty bitty cars are just not made to those standards. And it is illegal to import cars in most cases. We really need cheaper cars in the USA that get good mileage; right now the cheapest Hybrid car is the Ford Maverick (about $25k) which sold out the upcoming 2023 model year in a mere 5 days. The US market is desperate for cheap transportation, but alas we don't get nice things.
Charming as your review as a person, I can´t help but feel that the low price point and the SUV nature of the vehicle was missed in the opionions given.
Now 30 months and 60.000 km.
5 gear manual!
Great Micro-SUV Suzuki Ignis III Hybrid System 3.1 hp, 50 Nm.
Lovely car. Highest trim Level.
Hill Assistent, Emergency brakes and more! Save car. ☆☆☆☆☆ NCAP.
I owned this car in india. But the price is huge difference.Indian Model is 5000GBP cheaper when compared to UK.
❤️
In India the basic model costs about 6000 pounds.
Don't care much about the car since it isn't available in Canada anyway, am here just for Ms. Jackson.
I own IGNIS and is the best car
You are muscular do you lift?
bottom line: whether in the states or in england, you can't expect too much when you shop budget vehicles.
is it just me, or does Rebecca look especially terrific in this latest video? 🤔🤗👍🥳🎊
Takes styling cues from the Suzuki Wiaakid of the late 70’s but it’s definitely different in the world of clones

I wonder if Suzuki an Mazda is the same
Suzuki and Toyota have a working agreement. Toyota will give Suzuki big car tech ( RAV4 and Corolla Tourer for example. The Suzuki version of the Tourer is the Swace ). Suzuki gives Toyota small car tech in return. The current Toyota Yaris and Mazda 2 Hybrid are sister cars. Subaru is also a Toyota relation. As is Isuzu
£14k to £17k for a small toy?
What on earth has happened to car prices? Nearly choked on my coffee.
1.2litre engine are not good for hot climate weather where we use air condition all the time . I don't know why nowadays all suv cars are in the range of 1 2 to 1 6.ltr It's good for fuel economy but it's not durable .
I thought it is small grand Cherokee until I notice suzuki logo
Over 50mpg impressive we own a Suzuki Beleno GLX and it only gets 40mpg
I have a 2014 2.4 petrol 5 door Grand Vitara...on a longer run it does 45mpg....shorter commute to work around mid 30s, not too bad for what it is. So far it's been fault free for the 3.5 years i've owned it.
@@markbrock4427 l recently did a trip in our Suzuki Beleno GLX and it achived 50mpg
The all wheel drive model would be good here in Australia - lots of dirt roads where you need more grip, but not a full 4WD
Say! What is that?! A percolator on a rollerskate?
It looks like a big car when she stands next to it.
Why not give the fuel consumption in standard metric measurment? Instead of miles/gallon it would make a lot more sense using litres/100 km.
Why? She is in England.
We use mpg in the UK (and this is a UK car channel) so she’s quite correct to do so.
I live in NZ and still try to convert to MPG, even though we use the metric system. MPG to me is much easier to understand.
Buy the Alpha XL7 then you've got it all. 👍
She is underrated and should present more. Such a waste of talent.
Rebecca's biceps are bigger than mine.
This car cost new around 8500 EURO 3 years ago :D
👍😀❤🌷
In india middle class families dream this type of cars
Love it! Now bring Suzuki back to America.😢
All the complaints seem nit-picky for a cheap little city car.
Suzuki is way ahead.... Japanese cars rock..
The first ones came out about 7 years ago.
Better to review newer cars. I'd like to see more of the MG4 or the new BYD EV's.
It's still a new car though? It might of been in production a while but such is the way of cars. Just like the MG4 which is the Mulan from China. Only new to different markets. This also starts at £14k approx versus £24k for the new MG ( among other things )
@@robsmall6466 the Mulan/MG4 are launching at the same time more or less, over the last month. They are totally new.
I was considering the Ignis back in 2017 and ended up getting an Ibiza FR instead, and even that is now so old now I'm about to replace it before something expensive breaks.
@@WildReefer China is still getting the MG4 first. Just because something is a new model doesn't make it superior. An Ibiza FR and Ignis are quite different propositions as well
@WildReefer this new redesigned Ignis only came out in 2020.
@@blurayffan66 where I live it was available in 2017 which means is been available for a long time, and even then there were reviews in the UK that I watched on CZcams before going with the Ibiza.
Learn Toyota Aygo!
🏴🍷🍷🏴
Had this car sz5 in manual for a year, amazing mpg and android auto was useful. The manual gearbox gets annoying to use in traffic, it's notchy and doesn't feel good compared to other cars. Would recommend cvt auto. It's crashy over bumps and sound system is poor quality. The inside windscreen fogs up so easily and car takes so long to warm up, you have to clear it yourself (even with air con on). Also the Ignis forum is just a bunch of weird unfriendly people. Glad I got rid of it to tell truth. If had choice now would go with new Toyota Aygo even if it had less features
The cvt is absolutely awful on the Ignis....and the manual feels fine. The only part of your statement I agree with is the crashy feeling over bumps- suspension is disappointing. Other than that, great little high quality car that will last yeas and years if properly maintained.
I've only seen elderly buy these
she should marry matt watson lol
This car maruti.. 🇮🇳 india make be produ cation this good family car... But back look n't 😒
Without the 4*4 there is very little to make it anyway interesting.
Warning! I bought this car a couple of months ago....the hybrid will not work when it gets cool, below maybe 8C. Kind of a worthless buy considering it won't work for at least 3-4 months every year. Dealer and Suzuki know this is a problem....not saying anything though when I try to push it. They say it is perfectly normal.
In this world 🌎 of freedom of choice its great to have so many alternatives whatever you want..personally I can't help but think the ignis while it's not a bad car..there are better for the money 💰 I.e. the Hyundai i10 is of far better build quality & a lot better value for money 💰 bot that is 'my freedom of choice '😀 each to their own 👌
Unless you don't want an electric car by 2030. Then freedom of choice goes out the window 😅
I10 is worse head room, leg room and luggage space
The focus on the "entertainment" area not being good enough is a bit silly.....I just want a good car, I don't need to be "entertained".
