Unpacking My New Flute, Condor Bass C by High Spirits

- It's a Condor Bass C by High Spirits and made of Walnut. :)
I was made aware today that my old title text including a written smily ":D" was being mistaken for the key of the flute. Apologies about that and I changed the title now to avoid further misunderstandings.

Playing the deep voice of this flute is an amazing feeling. :) I hope you find one that pleases you, too. I love my A flute but the low C does have quite a special voice.

I like too see your happiness in your eyes. The upper 3 fingers hole are huge because they are too low on the bore lengh., but you do it well !
C4 Key is not in bass familly, but in medium Tenor.

I think the bore size in relation to key might have something to do with the finger hole size, too. Not sure. I'm glad I can managed them. Women with small hands seem to struggle.
"Condor Bass" is the marketing name of this flute. I believe the NAsF (native american style flute) community have a bit their own rules of musical descriptions. ;)

It work great, and i love it.
You are right, the key infuence the size of the hole.
But, of what i'ved read, they said the position of the fingers hole influence too the diameter of their. especially is bass flutes.

Otherwise, after you tune the flute, the top three finger holes might end up too large in diameter for you to play comfortably. I'm woodworker and a bass guitare player (my level is not so high, but I do some cool stuffs).
I've looked for NAF playing and crafting since only 1 month, and i love the two ! This is exciting ! and not so complicated.
Playing an instrument you'vedmake is a very satisfying sensation. and sacred stuffs too :)
I want to build in the future some different Key NAF, especially medium/low drones flutes, and contrabass NAF. Ioves these frequency !
Crafting a flute of bamboo is not very hard. you should try !

Have you ever try melodies on pentatonique mode 4 ? I have listen somes of your videos and i don't hear the mode 4. You used a lot the pentatonic mode 1.
The mode 4 is very simple, like the mode 1. consisting of keep close the hole #3 instead of the hole #4
It give you a little variant sounding, and alternating in the same melodie the mode 1 and 4 penta doing sounding i my mind more melancolic .

Hi again , can you tell me , did you take any courses on flute playing ? I am very new to this and it seems that their has to be more to it. For me that is, not sure what hole to play so it sounds good. Will it come together as you keep at it. ? ……thanks again!!
Sorry for the late reply, Maura. I never did any courses, just learned to play the recorder in school many years ago. I watched many youtube videos and got myself inspired in FB flute groups. Just tried things. Never gave up. - Yes, things come together over time but some people prefer to have teachers. If that is the case with you you might want to check out Johnny Lipford. Awesome. I love HS flutes and Odell Borg. Do you like the walnut over say, aromatic cedar?
It's easy to become a fan, isn't it? :D The walnut seems to work particularly well with this flute, I find. Lovely sound. It's very robust, too. So I'm rather happy with it. But I equally like the spanish cedar for my "Little Hawk A" flute. It's a softer sound. But if given a choice of walnut or aromatic cedar I think I'd always go for walnut. :)

I'm playing the flute just by itself without anything added and am recording with a simple canon digi cam. I paid 295 Euros for the flute from a german retailer. Check links in desription box.

Thank you! :) I struggle with the large holes. And closer spacing on smaller flutes is easier to play, too. But the sound and feel of this flute is gorgeous and worth it. ;)

Oh, I was referring to my key of A flute when I mentioned smaller flutes. ;) As for this flute I chose it purposfully for its soulful voice. I'm quite in love with it. I just have to be mindful of my hands and fingers while playing.
