Had something similar with two boys and a girl in my scout section, I talked to their parents and I spent the next six weekends supervising them as the picked up rubbish by the side of the road and helping to prepare and serve meals for those in need. I haven't seen them be disrespectful to anyone since.
Wish the scouts in my old troop got punishment man. Back when I was in scouts they treated us girls horribly (this was also before I learned I was trans), and they never apologized. Once we had a cooking competition and our troop made three courses because we were allowed and like the adults we were good cooks. The boys threw a hissy fit when we won. We let the most polite of them eat some of our food cause they messed up when cooking and made it too spicy for themselves, and my brother was among them so I felt bad. My twin was probably the nicest among them, always fed up with their bad behavior and scolding them, trying to get them to behave nicer. He quit because he couldn’t handle them anymore, I quit because I just couldn’t expend the mental energy to continue getting left out of the group activity decisions in our scout-led troop (basically we chose what we did, how we did it, when we did it, we chose meal times, meals, bought our food, all the parents did was supply the funding and we did our own thing. A well oiled machine we were)
When i hit 14 i turned into a damn demon child idk what tf was wrong with me but after i stole my moms car she called the cops and told them let me sit in jail. They put me in a drunk tank i believe away from everyone else and no one else was allowed to come in but i watched all the craziness around me as they brought people in i saw some dark stuff the people on drugs scared me the most like forreal. They put a super drunk lady in the room next to mine and i could hear her saying the most disgusting things. Let’s just say i am now 27 with a good career and a clean record and i stay my behind out of trouble! 😂😂😂
When I worked at Subway i had a coworker that was absolutely gorgeous. She was one of the sweetest people ever but people mistook her kindness for weakness, she was a mom and had been through a lot. One day she was going meats and cheese and i was on veggies and as she turned around to get bread for a dad and his son the dad whispered something to his son and they giggled. She ignored it and started their sandwiches and as she got to where she was going to pass the stuff down to me to put stuff on the guy made a super inappropriate comment about how she looked in the pants she was wearing. I froze. She smiled super politely and turned to the kid, he was probably like 13 or so, and said "and this is your lesson for the day that apparently your father needs to learn too." And she picked up the dads sandwich and threw it in the trash and told him he needed to leave. The kid looked mortified anf the dad demanded to speak to the manager. The best part was the manager popped his head around the corner and said "actually i just heard all of that and yea, you need to leave". The dad never came back in but the kid would still come in with his mom from time to time and he was always VERY polite after that.
Middle schoolers are the absolute worst. Had a bunch in my work place today because they were on a band trip and they were a bunch of brats, tearing everything up, destroying the sections my coworkers and I just cleaned, dropping food on the floor, spilling their sodas and slushies, riding baskets like scooters, and all around being little sh!ts. And their director did nothing. If that was my orchestra when I was in school we would’ve been told to put our stuff back we weren’t getting anything it doesn’t matter that we have our parents money or not.

As a schizophrenic, WTF. What do people think they get from lying about a severe mental illness? It's not fun or "quirky" it's literally terrifying sometimes when you can't tell reality apart from hallucinations or delusions.
Had something similar about my younger brother thinking he is "gangsta", my younger brother made a scene in a mall where he was yelling and grabbing at his girlfriend at that time, he didnt realize that me and my cousin were also in that mall and witnessed him grabbing her face while yelling. I went from his back and smacked him in his ear, and forced him to come home so my mom could know what happened and do what she needed to do. My mother is a kind woman but never tolerates abuse especially to women and children.
My nephew got really tall, really fast during puberty, and thought he could start treating people any kind of way because at 13yo, he was taller than most adults (6'1). One day, he tried to intimidate one of his uncles (one of my brothers), who was 5 inches shorter. My brother promptly introduced him to jiu-jitsu by gently folding my nephew's clothes while he was still wearing them. Nephew had an immediate attitude adjustment and is now a kind, gentle, respectful, and very tall (6'3) young man in his 20s. 😂
Reminds me of this group of boys who were disrespecting me at my school musical during intermission and asking stupid questions just to make me flustered about not knowing the answers. I told my director and the boys got an earful, and so did their mother who wasnt watching them. My director treated us like her kids, and to hell with anyone who fucked around with her kids.

And then there was me and my bestie when we were in middle school feeling like we had to say "please" and "thank you" every time we talked to someone in food places or in the general public
Untrue. I don't care when you were born. People keep thinking this stuff is new, but it's not. Look back through ancient history and you'll hear stories about disrespectful youths. You'll also find "your mom" jokes graffitied on pyramids by some of the builders. Human stupidity is not new. It's just not. And pretending it is, and that your generation didn't have it, is to believe your experience is the only experience and to disrespect history. I do believe that YOU were not allowed to / didn't talk that way, yes, but the world--even just your generation--is a bigger place than you or me, and people making sweeping statements like this only creates generational divides when we should be working together.
On one hand, i want to say the adult should have been there to stop it instead of having to be fetched. But on the other hand you do have to give the kids some space. Sometimes, they use that space to be assholes and then we have to correct it. But they have to be given the opportunity to choose to be a good or bad person. Because learning first hand that being an ass has constantly works infinitely better than just telling them to be good.
