  • I recently attended the intercity cactus and succulent show and sale at the Los Angeles Arboretum where I met Diane who recognized me from my channel and we got to talking where I learned about her passion for gardening with succulents and cacti. As we talked I realized her front yard was pretty amazing, so much so that I thought it would make for the perfect episode. We take a tour of her front yard and go over her care routine as well as discuss the award she won for her landscaping after being entered by a neighbor. I hope you enjoy thank you for being here!
    THE QUEST CONTINUES!!!

It's hard to watch someone else living out and enjoying your dreams 😂

No doubt, huh? I live on the east, about the Mason Dixon Line. I must coax my cacti into winter dormancy every year and bring them inside for winter. I want many, but the more I have, the more ridiculous it is to move them around in their pots. I also must guard them of too much rain, so on days it calls I must porch them, wether it rains or not and I'm at work. So if it don't rain, they miss direct light. The bigger they grow, the more ludicrous it becomes to move them out of the rain, or inside for dormancy. If I only lived in a climate like this, where I could plant them in the landscape and watch them become beautiful decor without suffering rot.

Wow! Your best episode. I so enjoyed seeing how this woman landscaped with desert plants. She really had a vision and let it unfold.
She rocks!!! (And those crystals are a lovely touch)

Those are assassin bugs and they are good to have in your garden, they are predatory and feed on other bugs. That garden is a dream, it looks absolutely beautiful, she did an amazing job.

I’ve been collecting cactus/succulents for 6 months now. I had a few I had been taking care of for years, but I came across this channel and several more that sparked my love for them. I got a bad hip injury on a job and now I need a hip replacement and boy does it hurt. So I’m just barely able to take care of them. In GA it’s either blistering hot or pouring rain, honestly not the best environment, everything is in pots, and most of what I own is small because I’m so poor. But I love what I got. I get extremely upset if one dies. So far not a lot. But I love watching things like this still, a little knowledge never hurts anyone, and I get to see beautiful things I’ll never own but atleast i am able to look on my phone and geek out. ❤🌵❤️😽❤️U

Envious that she can have her cacti in her front yard like that and it's all good. I grew a San Pedro from a small cutting for over 2 years and had it in my front yard and someone came onto my property with a knife and chopped it up.

The aonium seems to be a super adapter (to its environment). Your clips showing it grow flat and wide to the Rock makes me think it wants to 1. camouflage into the landscape and 2. potentially protect itself from strong winds. Super interesting!!

This is true. There are also different species which some have stems some do not, but it is incredible to see the variability in how they grow when they are pampered versus left to fend for themselves in the wilderness.

What direction is the front of her house facing? The front of my house in South Florida is facing north and I heard that cactus don’t do grow well facing north, but I have seen cactus planted in from the house down the street facing north and they seem to be doing good. Some are big.

Hello, I'm making the switch over to using rainwater for my cacti and I've installed a water butt, however I'm a little worried if the water coming from the gutters may contain things that are harmful for my cactus, should I filter the rain water before using it, with something like a Brita filter?
