Beating People Quickly with the Halloween Gambit
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 01. 2019
- I played three games in a row, all of which featured some version of the Halloween Gambit. Although the Halloween Gambit is considered dubious at high levels, it can be quite effective against lower rated competition!

13:41 "Ill just keep checking until its mate" me every game
Litterly me
@demon shadow hmmm so people can't be beginners at chess anymore? Why so toxic lmao
@demon shadow Yeah there are ten seconds left and you have to calculate 7 variations , brain processing of yours should be faster than light speed
@Okay Tyler There's no way you can do something if you're a queen and a rook up but your opponent doesn't resign and tries to win on time and you have like only 10 seconds left because you played the game well and took time to throughly calculate all positions
@@achyuththouta6957 yesterday I won a rapid game with 1 sec left after blundering my knight for 2 pawns in the start. Won the endgame with my 3 pawn advantage against his bishop.

U mean football
Kapitan Melanżu no he means soccer
@@livepoetic390 but what he was saying is that the better liked term for soccer is futbol. Only us americans or Eric call it soccer. They actually hate it when we call it soccer.
About 4:15 in, "this is an intuitive move." After calculating 4 lines.
"If I were white, I would be terrified, which is probably why they call this the Halloween Gambit" I love IM Eric Rosen, his thoughtful commentary and subtle humor. 10/10 would recommend. I can't find a bad video made by him and I have watched dozens. I truly enjoy his content.

@@swiftsushi nice to meet you Mr Simp. Are you also an International Master?
@@MrTalkingzero Nope. What’s it like being a simp?

I love this - 14:58 - "Gimme a random number between 1 and 27!" "The answer is 19." "19, hmm.. well, I don't wanna count though..." LOL :)))))))))
27 or 27!

Because 27! Is a rather large number

Horrible!
*RAWR*
Any video links to talk about the flaws of F3? I only know its bad but do not the theory to it
Still
Theory
Others don't want it because it clearly opens the black diagonal which makes the king unsafe and gives the black bishop many squares

He was my math teacher when my actual math teachers weren’t teaching
That last game was one of the most brutal things I've ever seen. Every move attacked while developing and defending. I even felt stressed out for the poor guy.
Shush
This got makes it look so easy and most of his predictions happen. I try to do it but most of the time I miss something and my failed plan causes me to lose the game tragically.
Flash MeLody could be worse, I normally predict my opponents move, but can’t figure out the right one for myself.
I usually find my opponents best plan but always miss mine😧😧😧
..
Same here.
I really enjoy how your are speaking your mind out loud ! Thanks for posting.
20:24 😂 best commentary every idk why but this happy moment as a newer chess player got me rolling 😂
Eric your streams and videos give me life. Thank you for your content. I just love your combination of calm, curiosity and enjoyment when you're playing.
"Let's just keep checking until it's mate" perfectly sums up my games as a 700.
I really love the way you think, analyze the position and try to find the best move, the best combination. I'm really improving my own way of playing the games. Alessio
How could Eric have enemies, hes the most chill guy lmao
Hello! Glad I found you channel few weeks ago. I usually watch a game here in between the games I play which I find is very good for learning. My progress is slow but I guess I'll just have to keep on playing!
Nice video. Back to back to back of a gambit I’ve never seen or heard of. That was cool
He's the only person I've ever seen who flares his nostrils every single time he talks
Oh god, I can't watch this guy anymore now that you pointed that out
Sydney Carton oh no delete this
HAHAHA
Whatt
He has a rare condition called nostriliox, the nostrils are connected to his mouth so the sound comes out from his nose.
You deserve way more subs. We are spoilt with instructive play.
One of my favourite openings. It just feels like you are in total control of your opponent
i bet i could beat you in the Halloween gambit if i can prep before the match and also use a computer
Not if he can prep and also use a computer himself
Ali Fraiha if computers played the halloween gambit white wins
@@12Sangjin good point
Not just normal engine u will need a engine called Rosen
"When in doubt, develop"-Eric Rosen
Nice video as always, Eric! Actually, the best final move on the second match wouldn’t be Rb1+ as you did but a mate in 2 with Qb1+ and, wherever the king goes, Qb4#
Astute analysis!
finally i was waiting for this, my favourite opening is the halloween gambit :P ^ .^
2 years later and Eric is still crushing the Stafford
Excellent content, love the insight into your thought process, just sub'd👍👍
I know that guy, patrick_jmt. He used to teach me calculus through youtube back in college
Had to watch this one again...Happy Halloween 🎃
Ηis calm and humility is even more terrifying
Great tough process, very impressive
I love how you can play this gambit from either side!
more gambits, like king's gambit please!!!!! how do you learn sharp lanes like that? it's just amazing
He's playing like me - Eric seemed impressed
This was very entertaining
That was like a hallowed cross of pins at the end there
This is a pretty aggressive gambit. I'm going to practice this too.
Your level of strategizing mind boggles me
Lu cha is how you pronounce green tea in CHINESE(which was the lettering on the can)
One of my favorite videos yet, I always learn so much from you as you think out loud
Very entertaining, thank you
Yeeeee my fav opening, happy to see that
Lol @23 min “I want to mate somehow” lol
Nice move from Zenchess playing g3 !! ROFL
Woah I see you were playing against Patrick gmt, the legend
thank you for sharing your vids ! God bless you
13:35 wow what a centralised king. 😂
Its spoopy time again.
Yes my favorite Gambit for Halloween
There is a movie called Kingpin. It is about bowling. You, Eric, can become a chess one Kingpin ... or maybe even Pinking :) Beautiful chess you play! Keep it up! Love!
On the first game losing the first knight is the best play against that I believe or you could play queen e2
Its green tea lol . This guys videos are top notch
6:50
I think you can only take once with the pawn!
Thanks for all the wonderful content
Hey Eric, can you make a video on the French defense
Lol that green tea 🍵!!
Damn. Halloween gambit lives up to its name! Scary...
This gambit is fun to watch and fun to play. If the opponent doesn't play perfectly they end up getting so incredibly screwed in the worst, ugliest positions
my fav gambit
at 9:39
15...Bxe4
16. Bxe4 Rxe4
If queen takes then queen d2+ and f2#
If not, then at least you got that knight back
Coincidence that this video came up on my feed on October 1st? 🎃
2:15 i think his best move was to move his queen in front of his king first, forcing you to defend your king in some way before attempting to take the knight
Be7 you just develop a piece with a tempo cause the pawn's unpinned and the knight's attacked.
Great video, i cried today when i saw you charge 80€ for classes i get Though you are a great teacher
we all can agree halloween gambit does the most tricking...
yeah it's a treat
3:35 I would love it if you could do some lower level breakdowns for newer players like myself, I have a hard time keeping up sometimes! 🙏
At 11:45, the reason he moved his king was because bishop takes rook on e4, bishop takes bishop on e4, queen takes bishop, then your queen takes d2 leading to a win in another movw
At 9:39 there's a mate with bishop takes on e4 then his bishop takes then rook takes than queen takes then qd2 check then kf1 then queen f2 checkmate
Great video!
6:03 I was wondering what to do about Na4. I came up with a fun idea... Bf8 c3 c5!? Parting with a 2nd piece to insist on no queen trade and getting connected central passers that give so much compensation. The Halloween gambit looks like so much fun to play!
great idea
10:19 It says 緑茶 ryokucha which is green tea in Japanese. Chinese has a different character for green iirc.
Its the same meaning in chinese
dustyraspberries
Thanks I forgot it used the onyomi reading of Green so りょく, not みどり. 🥴
13:16 I like Rd3 revealing an attack on the king and attacking the rook twice (it's only defneded once) and winning the rook.
Opponent can play Ke2 though so no free rook
" i have bishop pair " ....down a piece LOL
He tells his opponents his move lists and still wins lol. I'd love to play against him. I'd be crushed but would have fun.
Opponent be like: This IM is using alot of time… maybe im putting pressure on him!
Meanwhile Eric: okay this is the first big blunder of the game…
Thanks for video on Halloween gambit. Can you do a video on Christmas gambit too? :P :D
And after that a happy new year gambit for me.
And then maybe my favorite, the 4th of july gambit
Petrov’s Defense: Four Knights Variation, Rosen Gambit Accepted
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nc3 Nc6 4. a3 Nxe4 5. Nxe4
Main Line:
5...d5
Classical Variation:
6. Nf3 e4
Modern variation:
6. Nb3 d4
Shouldn't it be 6. Ng3 e4 for the classical and 6. Nc3 d4 for the modern? Nf3 and Nb3 can't be played in this position
Powerful stuff that H Gambit!
I’ve been in a suicidal state of mind recently and you’re helping me. Thank you Eric.
Brian Migliaccio hey hope your okay man! Hit me up if you ever need to talk.
Maybe let me add ur Snapchat and we can talk?
i hope you're doing better now 3 months later
how are you?
Hey guys I’m his cousin I’m sorry to say but Brian took his life after someone online beat him in online chess using the Halloween gambit :/
The irony being that no low rated players ever fall for the stafford.
At 19:31 I noticed a move for Black. Instead of capturing the Knight, he should of pushed the pawn to c5. This might of lead to a discovery of a check on the white King. Just a thought.
a3 against the Halloween or “reverse Halloween” is
Useful given in the variation with the wedge pawn on d3 needs Nb4 support and you don’t have it.
Am your fan❤
Eric "Chess Sadist" Rosen.
When my parents are on their way home and i have a girl over 36:34
36:00 could pawn a4 have been a good move for white? it looks enticing but maybe I'm missing something
entertaining chess video
I love how he commentates pretending to not know exactly each move to a T
4:57 he could have won here by two moves, queen h5 then take the pawn or if king goes f8 then go f7
I assume you mean Qh4+? But then g3 blocks and the Queen has to retreat.
Dude you played against Patrick_JMT (00:00) aka the god-sent human who taught us how to math 😂
Patrick is a hero.
great
Calculate then not doing what he calculated 🤣
10:36 can someone explain what happens when bishop takes rook on e4, then queen b4 check and white pon g3?
is it queen takes bishop e4, queenexchange, bishop threatening the rook h1 winning the knight?
nev rojs yes
In some ways this is a chess channel, but mostly it's the: "What is Eric Rosen drinking?" channel.
No
u can do 2 takebacks in a row.. i’ve done it for my opp b4 if i already moved
