That’s a purdy roaster! I have a collection of antique roasters I just love.
You do an amazing job of linking all of your videos corresponding with your current videos. Thank you for all of your hard work. God bless you and yours and a very Merry Christmas.
I’m sooooo excited about my pepper powders! And tomatoes. I look forward to growing way more this year. What flavor! ¡Qué sabroso!
Very interesting on the different colors of peppers plants thanks for sharing this this video.
That's great news about the dehydrated squash and pumpkin! Thanks for sharing all your experiments with us! I've always felt funny about plastic basters and whatnot too. That is a cool baster and roaster you got there! I love Dr Jacobs soap, that's great they gave you an affiliate link!
Always so much great info on your videos!!!
Don't you just love your Corosi dehydrator!!? I love mine, best one I've ever used. My brother bought me a Cosori air fryer, I was so happy with it I bought their dehydrator. 🤗
Great this and that, enjoyed the info, blessings
I bought several of the jack-o-lantern Halloween pumpkins after Halloween had passed. They were cheap--one to two dollars each. I baked some and mushed them up on solid trays, then dried and powered them. The others I peeled, grated, blanched and dried on cotton-sheet tray covers(thanks for the tip on that, Heidi, I love those tray covers for so many things). After doing them both ways, I found the flavor is quite different, the baked are more caramelly. I like both, though the grated were faster drying. I labeled the grated ones as Magic Great Pumpkin Dust. I am going through my dehydrated food, my own and some commercial, and powdering a lot of them. Saves space and I'm finding I use them more often. I also am making just-add-boiling-water soup mixes with some of them. Cucumber/yogurt--with a few Herbs and Gladyses--makes a tasty light cold soup. I am thinking of trying melons for that. They may have too much sugar to powder, but they might flake okay. I have just sliced and dried them for years for wintertime 'candy'.
One of the things I love about your channel is that you are always experimenting. That's something I also love to do.
It's great. I've been doing this for years and its great.
I agree on needing space. I hadn't thought about dehydrating the squash produce. Excellent idea with so many options without having to make a large quantity. With two of us, it just seems I have to cook more foods, then freeze, and that simply takes up so much time and space in the freezer.
Plus, at least what I have purchased from farm stands, sometimes the produce does not last, even in cold storage. This year I'm growing all my own from seeds I harvested from the produce. I need quality food. :-) Thank you for this new-to-me idea.
Good morning! Hope you have a beautiful day 😊🌞
Of course I somehow read this as 'vinegar powder.' I was l like: man, how does this lady powder everything?!...wait. XD lol. Thanks so much for the videos; they're beyond helpful.
I’ve made vinegar powder but haven’t used it yet. Not even sure how to use it.🤨
@@Sandra-or4ey How did you make it?
@@future.homesteader I just poured the vinegar into a shallow glass pan and put it into my dehydrator. The time will depend on how much vinegar you use. I can’t remember the temp. It just ends up a powder like of like baking soda. Again I haven’t used it yet. My idea was to put it on popcorn.
@@Sandra-or4ey That's what I was thinking but wanted to be sure. That's got to be potent vinegar powder bc I'm sure it dehydrates to a very small amount.
The sweet rice flower has more rice gluten in it than other rice flours. So it is more sticky like sticky rice. So a benefit to those of us who are gluten free.
Thanks for that, I had not had a chance to look it up to see what the difference was
Thanks for the info on dehydrated pumpkin and squash! I was just getting ready to can all of my butternut squash and will dehydrate it instead. Ordered my first set of silicone dehydrator trays last week. And hope another set of trays soon. I look forward to the day I grow enough peppers to dry and grind them and make my own chili powder and paprika! God bless!
Thanks for sharing! My cooked pumpkin is taking up freezer space. I’m now going to thaw & dehydrate some. You’re so good at explaining & showing how you do these methods, without taking too much time showing every step (I love the photo inserts for that). Merry Christmas & many blessings to your family🤗❤️🇨🇦
Love these.
When my children were growing up, their favorite pancakes were buckwheat pancakes. When I could find the buckwheat flour that is. It's great that specialty flours are more readily available now than they were in the 80's.
Same thing had happened to me on a "lost shipment" that showed up two days later.
I felt so guilty keeping the item that I really wanted & wasn't available anymore but showed up.
I have decided to increase my Powdered Foods to reduce my Canned Foods.
Between your YT Channel & RoseRed, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can do this" to increase my space & food supplies. Thanks for the boost of confidence, Heidi, I truly appreciate all your work ❤
I've been so busy dehydrated zucchini and squash that we haven't given much thought on how to use it. We have used the pineapple zucchini in some rice dishes and it's really good. I wonder if squash could be canned similarly? Maple syrup squash or perhaps spiced in some way? Somehow squash always rots on us in the winter, so we have to deal with it right away
If I'm not looking at roses or lilacs when I smell them, my mind goes straight to someone having an unfortunate incident in the bathroom and is trying to cover it up. It leaves my wife and I eyeing each other suspiciously. Plus lilacs and roses are usually found around outhouses. Always good to see you Heidi!😊😊😊
God Bless you. Just subscribed
Love that dehydrating pumpkin and spaghetti squash kicks up the flavor. That was what surprised us the most about dehydrating zucchini. But what was most touching was how Amazon graciously gifted you the refund and the roaster. Thank you for sharing that blessing.
I love everything in this video and can’t wait to dehydrate my own pumpkins and squashes. I grew butternut squash one year with seeds from a friend and was successful growing it two more years saving seeds. I think it was the first time I was able to do that and it really inspired me. Amazon really does have an amazing customer service sometimes…

No pumpkin is safe! haha
@@RainCountryHomestead ha!
You really made me laugh! I had forgotten that aluminum foil was called tin foil years ago. I suddenly remembered my mom and grandma saying tinfoil as they wrapped up leftovers from a holiday dinner. Thank you for the memories.
Funny thing is I rarely call it tinfoil anymore but sometimes it still comes out like that then someone wants to make it a point to correct me as if I had no idea. It is no different than people saying "I am filming" when film is not being used when shooting videos from a phone. haha
I still call it tinfoil.
Thank you, Heidi. Love the roasting pan! 😃
I love my cosori!
Thank you. I'm not a fan of plastic either. I really want to dry pumpkin like now. I have a couple and some candy roaster squash we grew. Can't wait to try it. Thanks a ton for keeping me on task!
Love you're this and that videos Heidi there's always so much good information in there.
Amazon. I live so far out that no deliveries make the trip. So many that Amazon called me and we did a three way call with USPS national database. Didn't solve the problem. I too have been "gifted" expensive items because of shipping issues. I felt bad and called them back to return the items and they told me to keep them AND the replacement item. I was able to regift it to someone in need. Win, win!
God is good, all the time. What a blessing at Christmas! Can't wait to see you use it sometime in a video.
HI, Last year I got a very good deal on red, yellow and orange bell peppers.. Five 3 ct packs for $5.00. I purchased 45 peppers. I spent a week clean, deseeding and dehydrating them. The house smelt fantastic.
I saved the seeds out of all of them. I turned some of them into pepper powder and the rest I left as diced peppers.
The powder is fantastic. I can eat it by the spoons full right out of the jars. We have been adding some of it to the rubs we make for the different meats we smoke.
I have been dehydrating up a storm this past month. I have 2 eight tray square Nesco dehydrators.
Our daughter's home and our is separated big deck. . Her back door is across the deck from our front door so she is running the second one in her kitchen.
She has4 trays of asparagus dehydrating right now. I just finished up 9 pounds of frozen corn.
🙏
I totally agree with you about Amazon. They follow through on everything. Even with my Fire TV streaming device, they will trouble shoot it as soon as I call them on it. Also, with all of their packages, they either let you keep it, refund it, or replace it.
I also have never had a problem with Amazon. Their customer service is phenomenal.
I love dehydrating my own paprika peppers and phoblano peppers 🌶
The flavor of the phoblano is over the top..🤩🤩
They advertise those fruit and veggie capsules on television, but after watching your video, I’m wondering if powdered vegetables would be a way to “eat” more vegetables.
♥️♥️♥️
You guys have some crazy winds coming in a couple of days. Mike Morales just did a 16 day weather forecast and he is saying 100 m/hr winds in British Columbia coming up. He is usually pretty accurate, unlike network and gov weather predictions.
We had some come through already, I guess this is more?
@@RainCountryHomestead we’ve had them, too. A couple of times.
Heidi, you always try new things and share them with us, and I love that. I am going to give some of this a try. I have pumpkins and squash that need to be taken care of. Thank you for all of your time you put into the things to share with us. I am hoping with my huge Hubbard squash it will work out well. We have had some of our squash rot even in our cold storages and we have throwing 5 away already; so, this is a good way with not waste. I love the Dr. Jacobs soap! I love the rose Heidi! it makes my hair so soft.
I have had that happen with one spaghetti squash and a pumpkin one time, I have no idea why. I think each one can be individual, some last for many months and others do not and either way, I do not want to risk losing more becasue one has no idea what to expect
Ty, you need to try a red hubbard squash powder. Makes pumpkin taste bland.
Gosh I'd like to meet you. I wish you lived next door.
Thank you Heidi! 🙂
Gosh! Sorry I missed the pancakes at your house!😋🤤☺️
That's a beautiful roasting pan! I really like that the handles are offset.
With so many CEOs and CFOs of these companies stepping down, I don't mind so much ordering from Amazon. It wasn't a big for me anyway because if I can't get something I I need locally, I'll get it wherever I can.
Love and blessings! 🤗💜
The offset handles are nice meaning it can fit into smaller spaces than if the handles were on the end
EVERY DAY I PRAY,,,, please Lord,, let me prove to you that winning the lottery won't spoil me,!!!!
I can't afford anything like a dehydrator,, KA mixer,, vac sealer,,, BUT I love your videos of the things I can do,,, !!!!!
You can always make your own dehydrator for cheap. No one NEEDS an electric dehydrator. I explain a few ways that can be done in this video: czcams.com/video/1SIYUAHAGPc/video.html
@@RainCountryHomestead just watched it,,, got some ideas,,, THANX
BUT I'm still praying for that lottery ticket!!!
I get a big laugh when people harp on about Amazon yet they frequent Walmart, which IMO is much worse at how they treat employees and where they acquire their goods.
Yep, I agree
I love pumpkin powder specially making pumpkin rolls Can you give recipe ideas for spaghetti squash I’m interested
I will have some ideas coming out in the more detailed video (currently uploading) on dehydrating squash and how to use it.
Squash powder. Wish I'd had known that 6 months ago. That's interesting. Guess next season it gets done. I did my hot peppers and habenaro.
I keep a jar of dehydrated spinach, kale and whatever else I dehydrate (keep stuff from going bad).. on my counter and put a huge spoonful in my smoothie every morning. Whalla, I have had my green salad which I hate to eat otherwise.. My dehydrated veggies could include onion, tomato, zucchini or broccoli, apples, etc. great nutritional supplement!
Yes, I have a mixed dried greens blend that goes in all of my meals, gravies, soups, and so on and have been doing that for years but with those I prefer not to powder them: czcams.com/video/w2oeewjIKsQ/video.html
I will be playing your videos in the background today because I received 24 extra large tomatoes last night. The gas station truckstop in our area always has piles of vegetables and fruits that the truckers leave if they’re extra or something so I am going to add to my giant jars of fermented salsa. It works awesome because instead of cutting up veggies every time for spaghetti or chili or anything else, I just throw in a decent amount of my fermented salsa!
I have over 25 types of peppers that grow in my garden but I’ve never tried these. Is there ever a time where they are multiple colors on the plant through different stages of growing?
Yes, I just did not show a photo of that but there is a point where you can see all colors on the plant at the same time, as shown in the images of the ones I picked, they were all picked at the same time
@@RainCountryHomestead Awesome!!! Beautiful plant! I became obsessed with making fermented hot sauce a few years back. Khang Starr on YT has everything about peppers down to fine details of specific peppers. He has cloning, over wintering, grafting, cheap hydroponic choices, pruning & much much more! God bless!🙏
I see that roaster lid and think paella!
Hello Heidi, yes vegetable powder is awesome. I powdered up some of my dehydrated green beans. It's so easy to use. I just throw it in just about anything. I would like to do a mix veggie powder next. Blessing's.
Here is a basic mix (it changes a bit every year depending on what I have most of) of my mixed greens blend and how I use it but I prefer not to powder it: czcams.com/video/w2oeewjIKsQ/video.html
@@RainCountryHomestead thanks Heidi 😊
I'm definitely going to try some powdered squash and 🎃
I'm finally getting a chance to sit and watch your video. I told Mike I'd cook him supper AFTER I watch Heidi! 🤣 He understands, lol. I've been making pepper powder for the last few weeks, they are still coming in like crazy- I have all the pepper vinegar & pickled peppers I can use for a couple of years. Loving the idea of powdering squash- I can't wait to get mine planted this spring. Question- if the roaster is enameled, does it still put aluminum in your food? My roaster is the only aluminum pan I have in my kitchen, but it is enameled. Many Blessings!!
If it is enameled, it should be fine but what you want to watch for is if the enamel starts to chip off, then maybe one should be concerned but I am pretty sure the enamel prevents the aluminum from getting into the food
Hi, just received my turpentine - Im a bit hesitant to 'jump in'
Great video as Always Mrs Heidi. I've got some jalapenos that I'm wanting to dehydrate but was scared about the aroma... Is it strong?🙏🙏 Kendra
Quelle bonne surprise ! 🇫🇷What a great surprise this psyllium flour ! Could you please tell me if it’s not bitter ? I have to use gluten free but some flours often have a bitter taste as quinoa or lupine… Thank you so much for your videos… God is good ! 💕
No, it is not bitter but it should only make up a very small amount of the total flour
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you Heidi ! Merci ! ♥️
Psyllium IS plantain seeds?? Wow
It is the husk of the plantain seeds
@@RainCountryHomestead i didn’t know…. Thank you ….😁
cant find your dr. jacobs link... Love the videos Happy New Year
Did you look in the description box below the video? That is where it is. Make sure to click on either SHOW MORE below the video screen and to the left or the little grey arrow below the video and to the right if you are on a smart device
You're videos are so interesting and inspiring. Thank you so much!
P.S. Do you have a recipe for pumpkin pies using the powder. I've never had recipes using powders and I would surely enjoy knowing. 😊
No, I do not since I only JUST started making the powders, however, I would simply start with 1/4 cup of powder and 1.5 cups of water to make the pumpkin puree. One can always add more water if needed or more powder, depending on consistency desired
I canned some and dehydrated some pie pumpkins last year. When I made pies from the canned, even though I drained them it was too watery. I powdered some of the dehydrated and add some, let it rehydrate a while. Those have been the best pumpkins pies I’ve ever made!
I powder pumkin, but I use my spaghetti squash for almost ALL wheat products pasta. I avoid all grains due to gmo and not easily digestible. I do put up summer squash dehydrated in small pieces to make zucchini squash.
Will that roaster fit into your sun oven?
I do not think it will fit in my solar oven but black enamelware is better in a solar oven anyway and I have a few different pans to use in that
Do you have to cook the Spagetti squash before you dehydrate ?
No, but it is easier to cook it first, you do not have to cook it all the way, just enough to make it easy to spread on the trays
Uh oh. ..I dehydrated pumpkin but I did it in the raw state, not cooked. Will that cause a problem as I use it?
It should not be a problem, I have dried it raw before, as long as you can powder it for what you need it for that is fine. I cook it some first just to make it easier to deal with
do you think it would be ok to dehydrate squash raw?
Yes, I have done it before. It is easier to bake it first though
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you!
Where's the link for the Roaster and Baster?
Sorry, just an oversite on my part, I thought I had already put them in there and it looks like the larger one is back in stock:
Stainless Steel Roaster: amzn.to/3EQP6Vn
Stainless Steel Baster: amzn.to/3GweTCW
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks! My Daughter-in-Law has been doing TG Turkeys for the family for the last 3 years now. I thought maybe I might buy her something that will last. This looks like it may be a good qualifier! 😉
The reason it is $10 more than what I paid is because I got a $10 coupon, I cannot see it now but if it is still available, you should be able to see it. Once they are used they do not show for me again
How in the world are you able to contact Amazon in order to get them to take care of things?
I've gotten several things that the sellers were jerks, refused to refund money and searched all over Amazon to try to complain to them, but have yet to find a way to do it
Go to the Amazon main page, scroll down to the very bottom of the page where you see a list of categorized links in white against a black background. To the right you will see the category "Let us help you" click on "Help". Then in that page scroll down to where you see "Browse Help Topics" and at the very bottom of that list click on "Need More Help?" and you will see another list show up to the right, click on "Contact us" and it will take you to a new page, click on "Start Chatting" You always get a bot first but I simply type "associate" and they link you to a real person.
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you for the help, I appreciate it
@@MNTNSTARZ80. I had to go look again because I always forget the sequence, this time I took screen shots so I can shoot a quick video about it too as it can be pretty frustrating finding how to contact them
Amazon does provide an impressive experience but it's a service that independent businesses could not afford to deliver because it is unprofitable and loss leading. Amazon has created an unreasonable service expectations that has somewhat made the customer impatient and, again, unreasonable, I don't think that is an accident. I had to check myself a few years ago when I saw that I was becoming extremely inpatient because items hadn't come as per the delivery date and I knew I didn't need them for that date but I just *wanted* them. I also notice increasing customer petulence in the calibre of reviews. I try to support independent businesses as much as I can, sometimes just using Amazon as a search engine.
I'm going to put pumpkin and squash on my dehydrate list - thank you. I'm a new gardener and loving it but do get intimidated by what to do with some of the things I want to grow, it's not a bad 'problem' to have.
Yes, I get that, as one who has her own store and we ship out a minimum of 10 packages every day 6 days a week, I understand the cost and time that goes into it. However, not everything is easy to get locally or even on Etsy (which I rely on Etsy sellers for seeds, hand painted cards, and more)
Hi Heidi,
I just received my vaccum canister. Had to try it immediately. I love it. Received it so fast and it was packed great. I so enjoy ur videos and all I've bought from u. Tell Mr Rain he did a great job. Will be ordering the 1/2 gal vaccum canister next month. I so appreciate both Mr Rain and you ❤
Wonderful! Thank you Susan!

No worries, I removed the extra comment, it happens :)
i have lots and lots of vacuumsealed jars of squash i keep incase we have a terrible winter and it would make a healthy quick emergency organic vegan soup but theres never been a reason to use them but they are there happy and sealed just in case
i was going to buy a whirly pop its american i think its made of aluminium should i not bother? ive never seen a steel baster before thats a handsome cooking pot and lid mrs Rain xx
You just reminded me that our popcorn popper is aluminum! Well, we do love our whirly pop and I suppose there has to be SOMEthing we hang on to unless there is such thing as a stainless but I wonder if something like that would take too long to heat up
So I DID find one in stainless steel and ordered it up. I do not know if this link will work for you to order from if you are interested but at least you can know what to look for: amzn.to/3GJJw82
