I really like that. I’m not having luck keeping plants alive so I use a lot of fake ones but I absolutely love how plants look inside habitats and the snakes really seem to interact with them. I’m trying a couple of live plants again in some new habitats I have coming and see how I do with them this time around.
Thanks, Lori! I hear ya... plants can be tricky! I think the solution is adding more light in most cases. Even UVB bulbs don't supply a full enough spectrum for most plants to utilize. I have ordered a Jungle Dawn, should be arrive in the next few weeks. I will let you know how the plants do under it!
Awesome, welcome to the reptile hobby! I have a lot of reptile content on this channel, particularly the podcast I’m sure you will find very useful as a new keeper. You can find the podcast on the CZcams channel or on any podcasting app
Better for the snake too,I do not think they like to be looked at from above all the time.i plan to have my terra at eyes level,so for them I’ll always be at ground level.for the pot of the plant I used refractory stone pot, works like a charm with UVA lightning.ok,I stop rambling.cool vid and ideas as usual.take care.
I'm getting a Jungle python soon and I spent last Christmas in Ravenshoe and exploring around the area, beautiful place up around the Atherton Tablelands.
@@AnimalsatHomePodcast I'm still debating on whether to do a bio setup or a fake realistic one, I'll probably go for the bio one though after stalking a hundred how to videos on the subject on youtube though, Sad thing about that trip is I saw a bunch of different animals but no pythons . : (
Funnily enough, a friend once asked me how a jungle carpet python could be camouflaged with such a striking pattern, and I told him that the strong dapple effect of sunlight and shade creates patterns which strongly resemble those on these snakes. Fun to see your video and realize that I was right! I wouldn’t drop the humidity too much in winter: when my carpets are in a shed cycle I keep them as near to 70% relative humidity as possible, drier than this and they don’t shed particularly well. The plants look great, but you might well find that when the snake has reached maturity that they’ll get damaged - jungles can easily get to 6ft plus, and they are fairly heavy at this size.
Yeah, it was so interesting to see his camo in action! Plus you have to imagine, humans have fairly good eye-sight compared to smaller mammals (like rodents for example)... the camouflage must be extremely effective when it comes to their prey animals. Thanks for the tip regarding the humidity, a slight drop is unavoidable due to the cold winter temps where I leave so I may have to stay steady with the mister. We shall see! I'm hoping he plays nice with the plants for now. As he grows it will probably become a problem. Which now that I think of it... that is another argument for moving to larger enclosures. A larger enclosure would mean larger, more sturdy trees/plants. It would be cool to eventually have an enclosure larger enough to house some substantial plants! Something I'll have to toy with in the future!
I love your videos, man. After watching your UV video last week I installed one in my Jungle Jag's enclosure and she's out of her hides a lot more, cruising her enclosure, and hunting prey. It's winter here in Australia, so seeing this kind of activity from her right now is really cool. I've been wanting to go bioactive for a long time, but the prospect of too much moisture and her obtaining an RI does scare me. In my head, bioactive has always been an all or nothing sort of thing, but I really love what you've done here. I'm off to buy some plants and will slowly start integrating more of a natural environment into her enclosure. Thanks for another eye-opening video.
Thanks, Carmen. I really appreciate that, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and I especially like that you’ve made some upgrades to your pythons enclosure! That is awesome 👌🏼 small, steady improvements, is all we need to do!
That is one awesome tool for managing the climate, it will definitely give me more of structured and reliable idea of what to and when, rather than using my own judgement which I have been doing until now! And I really do hope he doesn't crush those plants! I love the idea of putting them in the cork rounds with substrate in them too.

Amazing how much effort you always put into everything Dillon! Certainly learned a lot from you over the years mate, so cheers 😎 had I stayed in Oz 🇦🇺 instead of a boa it wouldn't have been a jungle carpet for sure. Now I don't have to choose, which is kind of a soothing thought tbh. Regarding your temp changes I once saw a girl hooking up her boa viv to a fully automated system changing it for her. Unfortunately I can't remember her channel as it was rather small. But yea I'm sure you woulda like it as well 😉
Thanks, Oliver! Yes, it;s too bad Oz has such a strict protocol on their reptile trade... at least they have some awesome native selections!! If you ever come across her channel again, definitely send it my way!
This is beautiful! I’m a new snake owner and have been looking for a nice way to add potted plants to my non-bio active enclosure. The cork rounds are perfect! Do you seal the bottom of them at all before adding the plant substrate?
Glad it was helpful! This one doesn't a sealed bottom. I glued a piece of screen to the bottom to hold the substrate in but all for water to flow out :)
Hope you enjoyed the video! Please share the content :)

This is great. I really needed this. I want to do live plants and am not ready for bioactive (new to reptiles).

Yes! So true regarding looking at them from above, they certainly do't like that! Thanks for watching :)

That’s awesome! That should give you a good idea of how to set up the environment to make it look as natural as possible 👌🏼 I’m jealous!

Love Carpet pythons. Getting ready to build an enclosure and get me an Jungle. Always been fascinated with them. Your Jungle has an beautiful pattern.
Yeah he is a really great looking snake. Carpets are very fun to watch, they make for great display animals!

Have you heard any negatives about using umbrella trees with snakes? Are they poisonous to them of accidentally ingested?
Nope, I haven't heard anything negative about using umbrella trees. I know many people who use them without any issues 👍

Hi. Where do you get a lot of your supplies?
My son just got a boa and I'm wanting to add live plants.
I just got the plants at the local greenhouse!
soo.since he needs sleep/dark at night
im shure u turn off halogen. what heat source you give him at night ??
Yep, the light turns out! At night time a heat mat turns on for him
