Mosky makes a clone for 35 bucks and its spot on. Never thought my favorite OD pedal would be 35 bucks lol.

I bought a used Wampler Tumnus mini for like $75 and it sounded nearly identical (in a mix) to my buddy’s actual Centaur.
The Behringer DR600 digital reverb has been in my chain for a while and I absolutely love it. Don't sleep on cheaper pedals, but definitely do your research. I was so hesitant about using cheaper stuff, especially for recording but I haven't had any issues.
@@DustinDollinsShinBone The Boss NS2 is still one of the best noise gates ever made and can easily be found for $50. I actually use a Behringer NR300 that I found for $12 and it’s almost as good. Cuts a little bit of midrange but it’s not the end of the world.

You should try the Ceriatone Horsebreaker. It has the Klon and Bluesbreaker circuits. They are independently selectable or you can stack them and select the path. Also has a buffer switch.
There are a lot of almost exact duplicate clones out there that sound great. This one is good and I have the Ghost Drive kit from StewMac that I built and it is a very faithful clone based on some comparison videos I have seen. BTW - love that you are wearing the Fazio Electric shirt in so many videos. Colleen is awesome and her videos are cool.

The Klon style pedal is something you only appreciate once you play it in person. I have the Archer pedal and it’s incredible!
Yeah, I use the archer Ikon as an always on boost with my strat. I use an EP booster for my humbucker guitars. The Ikon is fantastic. It does something that’s hard to articulate with words. I just call it “sweetness”.
I've not used one yet. I tried building one and ruined it.ordered another and am planning on buying maybe the j archer or something

Yep. The Golden Archer to me can absolutely compete with a Klon. I keep one on my board as well and with my AC30 and Strats, Tele, Les Paul, and 335 it works with all of them and stacks PHENOMENALLY well with my J Rockett Touch (another HIGHLY underrated pedal) and Beetronics Fatbee.

i built a clone of the klon and it sounded closer than this one does. imp v2 and yea it was a pain to box... bought the wrong height capacitors and had to 3d print a riser. 😂 oh it cost maybe $80 with shipping from 3 places.
I’ve a KTR I purchased at retail this year ($189). This pedal sounds as good as the KTR. Greg alternatives are the Way Huge Conspiracy and the Prince of Tone. Check them out Fluff!
I played the Centavo side-by-side with my Klon KTR. The Centavo sounds great, and was almost indistinguishable from the Klon--99% there.
Traded the KTR in and kept the Centavo.
Another fun Klon clone is the My Little Klony from Daddy Daughter Pedalworks. Good-sounding pedal, and takes up a lot less pedalboard real estate.

I mean, it sounds really good. But I wonder how much better it sounds than a Tumnus or even a Soul Food with the tone rolled a bit back.

$180 that’s cheaper than a Bad Monkey 😂 Never spend even that much on a pedal but at least with this one you get a nice custom case as well as the good sound, so seems a fair price.
Those enclosures are like $75-80 on their own.
Centavo means cent (as in 50 Cent) which is kinda funny/ironic.

I think things like this should be done in a shoot-out/benchmark style. I let this video go in the background while working on some art and I did not hear anything that made me feel like there was any kind of advantage over any other OD/Fuzz/Dist. At least nothing that can't be adjusted for. Not saying it's a bad product, just saying I think the hype train got out of control in the first place. This Full mix was super rad though. Definetly some Mastodon vibes, which is more than fine with me.

I mean, the hype is foolish but comparing the Dirty Tree to a Klon is like the ol’ apples and oranges saying. Both are designed for very different applications. I wouldn’t boost a high gain amp with a Klon but I would with a Dirty Tree. And I definitely wouldn’t use the Dirty Tree as a crunch channel on a clean amp.
It's a good pedal.thats all. It's just a legendary pedal that John mayer has his name attached to. And the bad monkey morons drove the hype up more. There's 20 clones that are 200ish that do the same exact thing

It`s a pass for me. I got to see inside the pedal on other channels and it`s well made but the design is very off putting. Either go full Klon copy like the Ceriatone Centura or do your own thing like J Rockett Archer or Wampler Tumnus. This middle of the road kinda Klon but not really with the big tacky centaur and bold WA logo makes it look like a cheap Aliexpress knockoff.
Lol honestly I've heard pedals that only cost 2 or 3 hundred and they definitely where not even worth the money. If you have a good and or even a decent one the distortion it comes with most of the time just needs a slight kick, blues driver enhancement. The next-generation guitar players seem to be fooled by a lot of gimmicks.
I m really waiting for Gibson to buy "Klon" rights etc....then start the "play authentic"campaign, sue all companies making Klon clones and produce some "aged" accurate reproductions Murphy-customed Klons for 4k comparing to the originals that go for 10k...and people actually buying them :)
Luckily, Gibson could not do that since the circuit was never trademarked or copyrighted. Otherwise, the Bill Finnegan would be suing everyone making clones.

A very niche sound to be sure, definitely not my bag. People who pay for the “Real Deal” proves guitar players aren’t the highest on the IQ score board.
When did it become so prevalent that creators had to announce that any video is a paid promotion? And have a banner on the video the whole time? Like why and who cares?
It’s a CZcams TOS rule, if a video is sponsored they are supposed to announce it.
And to add to @nickb-pt2jj's answer, it's simply good practice: I for one would like to know whether or not a creator has a reason to temper their true feelings. Free gear (and perhaps the promise - spoken or not - of future gear) and/or a straight up paycheck are both reasons. Also, when you've been given free gear by a friendly person from the manufacturer who's kind & flattering, your opinion of the gear can be colored without your awareness. That's why scholarly papers are reviewed double blind: the reviewer doesn't know whose work they're evaluating and the person being reviewed doesn't know who's doing the evaluation. The sort of review we have in the above video can't be double blind for obvious reasons, so acknowledging upfront that it's a paid promotion (again, whether with cash or free gear) helps the viewer adjust their reception of the review accordingly.

Sounds really nice. But a band like Mastodon could replicate those sounds without that pedal, really. For $5k I would expect something that couldn't be replicated anywhere else in the history of guitar and music. Sorry 🤷♂️
No, and neither does the original. It's electronics, not magic. $40 in parts (probably being generous here) is never going to "sound" like $5000.
I know, I know. They are worth what someone will pay for it. But let's be real, you're buying a collectors item and a status toy. You can get the same sound out of a myriad of other gear.
