Do All Good People go to Heaven?

  • Good people go to heaven when they die, right?
Well, according to the Gospels, not exactly. Fr. Mike Schmitz points to at least four things Christ says we need for salvation:
    1. Baptism (John 3)
    2. The Eucharist (John 6)
    3. Faith (Romans 10:9)
    4. Doing the Father’s will (Matthew 25:31-46)
None of them are “be a good person”; and it’s probably better that way because, especially today, everyone has a different idea of what is good.
Christ has given us everything we need to achieve salvation.
He wants us all to be at his wedding feast, including you; but unless you do what is necessary to get to the wedding, you won’t be there.
Considering what Fr. Mike is saying, these words of Christ make much more sense:
“Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matthew 7:13-14).
Fr. Mike also quotes the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 847. Below is the paragraph in full:
"This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation."

Mike’s most popular videos, presented on a convenient DVD. It seems to address issues my own ministers simply don't care to yalk about or don't know. Yes, but there is only 1 action that will make you righteous: faith in Christ.
Let me tell you a secret the Catholic Church won’t tell you. The broad road that leads to destruction are those who are trying to enter heaven through their works. That is why the world thinks you can get into heaven by “being good.” Here’s what the Catholic Church doesn’t want you to know: Many Catholics & Protestants are guilty of doing the same thing.
Anyone who is attempting to get into heaven by ANY MEANS other than by FAITH IN CHRIST, will not be counted righteous.
So if you believe your righteousness is by faith in Christ AND baptism AND Eucharist AND good works you are not putting all of your faith in the work of Christ. You’re declaring what Christ did was not enough, but requires your help.
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.” - Philippians 3:7-9
93% of the world is religious. The biggest religion of all is Christianity. 57% of Christians are Catholic. Does that sound like a narrow road to you?
I am NOT saying don’t get baptized, don’t take communion, don’t do anything good. What I am saying is these things DO NOT MAKE YOU RIGHTEOUS. Real faith is letting go of your works & allowing Christ alone to be your righteousness.

Hey dude, all you must do to be saved is to repent, put your faith in jesus christ, and make him lord. This means you truly want to completely and totally turn away from sin because once your are saved christ takes your sin and it is nailed on the christ with him, however, it says that since we are now relieved of the burden of sin there is no point to go back to our sinful ways. We must follow christ in our day to day lives and read our bible to strengthen our relationship with God and draw closer to him.

A true relationship entails communication that goes both ways. You can ask specific questions and get specific answers. For instance ask god how many stars exactly exist in the Milky Way. Get back to me when you get an answer. But you won't because there is never an answer to any question because you have no relationship with any god... it's just yourself.

The statues put a picture of the person we are praying to in our minds and help us focus. Catholics venerate Mary because she is Jesus's Mom, He loved her and gave her special graces which we appreciate and ask (pray) to her for help. She caused Jesus' first miracle, all she had to say was "Listen to Him". That's all she has ever said, and we ask her to go to her son, and help us. She has special ability, and the prayers of a righteous person have special powers with God. You should call into Catholic Answers Live in your area on radio or online, they explain this beautifully and charitably, and they were mostly all Protestants until they researched Church history and studied what Catholicism teaches.

That is the very definition of idol worship - praying to one other than the triune God. I trust that is not really what you meant to say. One other point, any religion that puts a 'formula' to salvation is not the same as the traditional mainline protestant denominations. Fortunately, this very good Catholic apologist gave the Churches' true position when he said the "Bible and the Church" teaches. It seems the Catholic Church teaches works man must do for salvation (baptism, Eucharist, etc.) The Bible doesn't teach this - it teaches faith alone. That is the difference between Catholicism and Protestantism. Just so you know, there is no doubt in my mind that I will get to discuss this, and many other points of diverging doctrines, with a multitude of born-again Catholics when I am called home by my Savior and join them in Heaven. Actually, the future of the majority of mankind will be in paradise, here on earth.
That's what is was supposed to be, in the beginning(Gen.1:28) and nothing has changed. Psalm 37:9-11,29;Matt.5:5;Isaiah 11:6-9

Thank you for not pulling your punches. As an old commercial said, “You only go around once in life.” We’ve only got one chance to do it right and can’t change anything later. You don’t help anyone by candy coating the truth. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

Very true! These days, people would love to hear that God loves them enough to accept how they do things, but the truth is that we should love Christ enough to love what he commands. That Christ loves us is not in doubt, of course that's why he gve his life, at least we should demonstrate that we love him by obeying his commandments

I haven't been to mass in nearly 8 years, for many reasons, or excuses. But I still pray and say the rosary and consider myself Catholic. But man I'm the biggest sinner ! I'm watching this and drop my phone and F 💣s fall out of my mouth.
I really appreciate this Father. im working my way thru hour videos and others and hope I can get myself to go to Mass. 😥

Douay rheims bible - "I came not to call the just, but sinners to repentance" So thank God you know that you are a sinner and knowing that he is calling you. So go to receive him in Holy Communion on your knees, just remember to go confession first . God Bless

@@baggaleydaniel can you not confess on your floor in your room to jesus? What if the person you aren telling confession to dosent actually believe in Jesus?

@@sunflowerrayne8885- God is not bound by his sacraments but we are. So if for example someone is not Catholic or unable to get to confession before death then of course God can still give his mercy. But we have the sacrament of reconciliation which is the most sure way of receiving forgiveness. If the priest giving confession doesn't believe it , I doubt he would offer it, but even so, it would not make any difference. It is God giving forgiveness through the priest. So as soon as you hear "your sins are forgiven" know with certainty it is true

Repent and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and you will receive the Holy Spirit. Then after that you can read the Gospel of John. This is the only way to be saved. Getting baptized and or praying the rosary is not going to do anything to save you.
John 1:12-13 says: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
We are saved by faith alone. God bless you.

This word brings to mind Luke 9 verse 23: Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Everyday we need to choose to follow/surrender to the Lord, which is not easy, but He covers us with His Grace and Mercy.
Psalm25 v10 says: All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
    Let's follow Him!
