- More than six months into the Israel-Hamas war, 11-year-old Husam fears people will start killing each other for food. Husam is one of over 600,000 children trapped in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza bordering Egypt.
The city was theoretically meant to be a refuge from intense Israeli shelling, but since March this year, the Israeli government has threatened to extend a military invasion there, too, casting a shadow of fear that has been building for months. “The person’s psyche wears out with fear; it’s a slow death,” says Husam as he reflects on the impact of what lies ahead. Meanwhile, nine-year-old Nawja reveals that war has taught her to recognise the distinct sounds of different aircraft and the concept of safe passages.
As Israel continues signalling that it plans to launch a ground offensive into Rafah, Close Up follows Husam and Nawja as they dare to dream of a future free of conflict. 1.We have millions of Palestinians already living in Egypt as they were not allowed to return back even to Gaza. If you seek refugee out of Palestine in any country, Israel won't allow them back.
2.That defeats the Palestinian cause which there will be no Palestinians in Palestine except for the ones remaining in the West Bank.
3.Imagine Netanyahu waking up one day claiming that there's Hamas leaders hiding between the civilians that seek refugee in Egypt, gives Israel a motive to attack the Sinai Peninsula means attacking Egypt which abolish the 1979 Peace treaty between both countries and starts WW3 since Egypt ain't a wacky Middle Eastern country, they have an army of active 500,000 soldiers plus 500,000 reserves.
4.Egypt in an economic disaster, why would we interfere in a conflict between Israel and Palestine.
5.Israel controls the crossing road between Egypt's border and Gaza meaning Egypt can't even provide Humanitarian aid, let a lone letting Palestinians in which won't happen ever.
6.Stop blaming Middle Eastern countries on a problem the Westerners have created in 1948 by shipping illegal European migrant Jews to Palestinian land.

My cousin told me she had a dream. She had a dream of me painting a portrait of Jesus and I said to her “look at this Palestinian”. I am not an artist by any means. She rarely has dreams about Jesus as she’s not religious or has dreams about me for that matter. But my plight for the Palestinians has been so strong. Their struggles are my struggles. Their pain is my pain. Their misfortune is my misfortune. I’m sure this resonates with so many people around the world.
