Dear sir, hello. I checked the price of the cooker you used and for me in Brasil, it is too expensive. However My wife and I found a solution to descristalize our honey spending $50 in an aluminum can where we can fit a bucket inside, plus $15 in a 300w fish tank water heater. In a week our honey was kept at 38 degrees celsius and the honey turned liquid, maintaining all its nutritious properties (otherwise, if above 50, you "kill" the honey). Hope this solution helps you to save money while preserving your products quality. 🙏🏻

Great idea! I was thinking of putting my 5 gallon bucket in a large crab pot on a propane burner, but with your method I can safely do it in the house and keep the temp exact. Bought my wife a sous vide heater a couple years ago, but we've only used it on occasion.

It's coming! I don't open my hives this early unless I know for sure they are dead outs. Hopefully it will be warm enough in the next couple weeks to take a peak. By the looks of it, I'm hopefully 2-3 out of 8 made it through the winter by the activity I've seen on the warmest days. I definitely have my work cut out for me this spring as I hope to grow this year. How did you do this winter?
@@BeeBoyBill I just saw where you had 8 hives. How much honey did they produce? I had to sell all of my bees. I am a contractor. The last two years have been very busy . My contracting responsibilities kept me from the bees. Rather than let the bees just die off or manage themselves...I sold out to another beekeeper. I'm going to build some new hives following the Layens model (kind of). I'm still going to use Langstroth top and bottom bars but I'm going to make new end bars that are 15" long. This would be like a deep and a 1/2 Langstroth (also fits in Lyson extractor). "Enjoy Beekeeping" CZcams channel was the inspiration for this style frame. Management will be very similar, if not identical to Keeping Bees With a Smile. We'll see.
My management style varies depending on my other commitments. What I like about the Layen's is if other responsibilities get in the way, they can take care of themselves given you have time to at least provide them with empty frames in the spring. The last two years I also was super busy and didn't spend as much time as I'd like in the bee yard. I'm set up with 18, 19 frame Layen's hives, but the most I've run in a season is 10 or 11. I also have 21, 7 frame traps that double as nucs, depending on what I'm up to. I'm working on "perfecting" my breeding stock so it's been my practice to save the honey for spring splits. Out of 8 hives, two were four were swarms and the other four were from a four-way split I did in spring. I was surprised at the amount of honey they made even after that and harvested around three 5 gallon buckets leaving all the colonies with only 9 frames for the winter. This year is going to be different. It looks like my survivor hive has made it through its third winter and I'm hoping to start rearing queens from it if that is the case. I've also dedicated a significant amount of time this year to beekeeping operations and eliminated many other obligations. Looking forward to seeing your new hives!

That’s coming! Haven’t got too many warm days up this way but hoping they are coming soon so I can get to work.

Great idea. I use a bucket heater that wraps around the bucket
Put some cling film on the top it helps pull the scum of the top of your bucket of honey

How long does the honey stay uncrystalized for? I would think that after it has crystalizes once, it would happen much faster a second time.

2-3 weeks... that is how long it took to recrystallize after 3 days of heating.

A lot! I’m not exactly sure because I’ve never weighed one, but I have heard around 60th a with head space.

It makes me cringe when I see food heated in plastic. The chemicals in the plastic leach right into the food and mimic estrogen in the body. Just fyi.
