  • You don't need fancy combos as a beginner in Street Fighter!! Don't get too caught up in the craziest stuff your character can do, just go at your own pace and have fun while doing it. When you do wanna do the crazy stuff I hope this video helps you figure out where to start.

I'm familiar with cancellable attacks into specials or supers but always wondered how "linking" worked. Throwing out some real tips to help
    1. Special cancels: Do the motion during the move, press the actual button for the special when the move connects
    2. Linking normals: Linking moves works because the hitstun from one move is high enough to combo into the next move. You know how the game freezes when you hit someone? That is so you can link into the next move.
    3. Video doesn't cover the 3rd way to get a combo, which is through juggling. You can increase the juggle potential of moves by doing a drive rush. EX (Overdrive moves) also have lighter juggle restrictions than their normal versions. Launchers typically do not have any juggle potential to avoid infinites. Most corner-specific combos exist because of juggles, but thanks to Drive Rush it is possible to achieve this from midscreen in SF6.

    Maybe you could go over modern control differences sometime. I know that it can be easier to do special moves. But i've stayed away from it because it seems like you can't do all 6 of your regular attacks. But maybe i am wrong. I dunno

    Interesting. I've been having trouble doing combos and I didn't know why. Seems like I'm trying to time them too much instead of doing them as fast as possible. This would make sense because a lot of the combos seem to be pushing me out of range for the next/last hit of the combo.

    Is the timing on the bar constant, or different depending on the attack i use.

    • @artsywak
      @artsywak  Před rokem +3

      its all different depending on the attack. it tells you how long you're stuck in that specific move's animation, and then the green window where you can press a button to get it out as quick as possible after the first. will still have to put some time into figuring out the intricacies of each move individually, but the bar does help speed up the process

    So
    1. Special canceling
    2. Links
    For links, is it only linking normals?

    • @artsywak
      @artsywak  Před rokem

      For the most part yes. There are some moves that send opponents into the air high enough that you can "juggle" them which sometimes involves using a special move. That isn't a cancel, but it's a little different from a normal link since the opponent is airborne. It's a bit more complicated so I didn't get into it in this video, but I might make another explaining some more combo techniques eventually

    • @sean8599
      @sean8599 Před rokem

      @@artsywak so if I look at a combo in its base parts, it would be a combination of links and special cancelling essentially.

  • @SlCKNESS_
    @SlCKNESS_ Před rokem +3

    You lost me at "modern" controls. They literally change the timing required to perform special cancels, because it's literally one button vs multiple directional inputs that take longer to execute.

    • @Mikechain97
      @Mikechain97 Před rokem +4

      He's talking about getting the general rhythm for when the move is suppose to come out. Its like having a cheat sheet, If I'm struggling to do a cancel and then I switch to the modern controls and im able to perform it , it will let me know if im doing it too slow or too fast and I will just adjust for when I switch to classic controls.

    • @artsywak
      @artsywak  Před rokem +4

      I get what you mean! What I meant is with modern controls the time you press the button is the same as in classic. Once you know when you press the button, you just have to learn to input the directions before that. In a neutral state it's always gonna be faster to do a modern special than a classic, but in a cancel the button press will happen at the same time ignoring the directional inputs

    • @BlueLightningSky
      @BlueLightningSky Před rokem

      There is just no way in hell they did this. Why would the cancel window change depending on your input? And how does this affect the cancel window when you're in modern but you're using the raw motion input?

  • @bharatsurya9017
    @bharatsurya9017 Před rokem

    But some normals cannot be input during the green part of the frame data bar right? Is it all just math at the end and should some normals like heavy kick and heavy punch be totally avoided while trying for a combo ?

    • @artsywak
      @artsywak  Před rokem +4

      it varies quite a bit from character to character, but it does all come down to the frame advantage the first move gives you. heavy normals do typically come out slower, so if you even if you press during the green window it wont come out. the green is just about showing you your first actionable moment, so it still leaves it up to you to find out what move is fast enough to link when pressed at that moment
