I really loved squirtle and bulbasaurs friendship and interactions with each other.
Same! They were my favorite combo since Butterfree and Pikachu didn't bond much after its evolution
Professor Alex Silver that’s so true! Looking back at it now I thought pikachu and butterfree would have been really close since they had that moment when staring at the moon.
Maybe that's why Squirtle doesn't want to evolve. He doesn't want to leave Bulbasaur behind.

I always wondered that the reason that Bulbasaur and Squirtle didn't want to evolve is because they saw what happened with Charizard.

That's a theory in which fans have speculated on why squirtle and bulbasaur have remained unevolved.

I thought Bulbasaur's reason was explained in the episode with all the Venusaur? I could be wrong. It's been a while.

I love how He makes such a morbid joke, then later defends Ash's character. He really cares about him. The joke just popped in his head and he just had to share it, probably to ease the tension but the other's didn't share in his morbid sense of humor

Squirtle had a duty to the Squirtle Squad before joining Ash. It's a defining trait that he was the leader of the crew and Ash was able to see that strength of brotherhood he shared with his brethren. Squirtle chose to never evolve and risk changing his personality and the responsibility he had as the leader of the Squirtle Squad.
Very interesting point that Charizards radical personality change upon evolution could've effected squirtles (and other pokemon Ash owned) view on evolving. With the legendary status the water type got, it's easy to forget that Kanto was rough on the little guy battling wise
The first season didn't spell out a lot but I think it's a very possible theory :)
@@ProfessorAlexSilver I wonder if maybe seeing how prideful Pikachu was to stay the way he was by refusing to evolve and still beat Raichu, may have had an affect on their own evolution as well.
Every fire fighter in California and worldwide need a team of Blastoise, Wartotles, and Squirtles, with cool sunglasses.
If only! The fires here in California are ridiculous. It's very frustrating to see how poorly they're handled each year by the state

Squirtles trouble making but loyal personality makes it one of my favorite Pokémon in the anime! Even though it’s battle record was a originally much to be desired, it was great seeing improve in the orange league and become a real pro by training with officer Jenny and becoming a fire fighter! I really hope Squirtle gets another appearance in the spotlight because we haven’t seen it beyond flashbacks and brief cameo appearances ever since it’s latest battle against Brandon

So, here’s the thing. Squirtle ends up back with the Squirtle Squad in/near Vermilion City, right? I haven’t watched the newest series yet, but as I understand it, Ash is based at a lab in Vermillion City. I doubt that it’s going to happen, but I’d love to see Squirtle return to Ash’s team and become a regular character again.
Hopefully some day :)

Honestly, even he was my first Starter... the Number 1 Water Starter for me is and ALWAYS will be Mudkip xD
But the Squirtle line (the true underated Starter from gen 1) will always be a very close second :D
Also (similar to the Mudkip line) i love it in all Stages.

Ash's Squirtle and his debut episode was what introduced me into Pokémon. I just happened to catch the last half while staying at a friend's house and watching it out of context the scene of him carrying Ash had me rolling.
I remember watching the very first episode on very first day of kindergarten :)

Funny how two of Ash's original starter 3 decided to ultimately never evolve, partially bc of how negative Charmander's experience went. Would have been cool to see, but it was also like they kept solidarity with Pikachu, who never did either. Love your channel. I started watching when I found out there is going to be a new Pokemon release this year?!?

It was fun the first time he said it, by the 99th time, I was spent
I have personally a soft spot for Ash' Squirtle. For me it is my Favourite Pokémon on the show and his story is a very lovely one and i like his Broshipping with Ash' Bulbasaur. One episode that was stand out for me is Gathering the Gang of four. What i found interesting was that i saw Bulbasaur on his two backlegs and his bulb like a Shell and his two Frontlegs like arms. It looks just to me that Bulbasaur wanted to be just like his best pal Squirtle.
I remember Ash’s Squirtle, it and it’s crew used to cause trouble after being abandoned by their original trainers but then turned over a new leaf and became fire fighters. And later in the original generations, it went back to the squirtle squad since they needed a leader back at the competition since the others were timid. The times Squirtle came back to battle along with Ash, was in the Sliver Conference and the battle against Brandon. Overall, Squirtle was a great partner.

I’m now imagining Rotom Dex later sharing his photos with the Squirtle Squad, and while the rest of the group finds it cute and charming, Ash gets upset that his Squirtle was at Oaks lab and Ash had no idea, and didn’t see him. And everyone confused on why Ash is in worse mood after seeing the photo, he tells them of the infamous leader of the Squirtle Squad

Honestly, I'm pretty sure all instances of pokemon not evolving in the anime can be boiled down to evolved forms being more difficult and/or more expensive to animate. And since pokemon is relegated to being a weekly series, they definitely don't want to take that gamble.
That and they need something small and cute to advertise toys to kids.

Squirtle's lack of evolution doesn't actually have a reason behind it. He doesn't have the same level of pride as Pikachu or Bulbasaur. Squirtle is perfectly willing to evolve and is capable of doing so, but it just never happened, probably because he's cuter and more marketable than Wartortle.
He was pretty pride-filled when picking the fight with Marill in the Pikachu short and then against Azumarill at the league

Honestly I love how Squirtle uses Hydro Pump and it’s not just a blast from its mouth. Now don’t get me wrong mouth beams are my favorite thing, but I can appreciate some variety

Squirtle remains my favorite pokemon for this very reason. He never gave up Ash. My starter pokemon always are water types and they are best! (For me) I really wished they would of let him evolve. He's a beast at blastoise. The show just wanted to show a cool, fire breathing, dragon.

It's a little weird looking back at what was considered a loss in the early days, while today it wouldn't necessarily be considered a loss.

I think that Ash’s Squirtle was great and it is one of his top 3 water types and if it have evolved instead of Charmander Ash wouldn’t had the same problem as with Charmeleon as Warturle and Blastoise are not as prideful as The Charmander line was and it still surprised me that the majority of Water Pokemon he had never evolved.

When Squirtle fought Paras so that Paras could evolve was the funniest and memorable moment of Squirtle for me.
I love Ash's Squirtle. In my opinion, the water type turtle Pokemon should have withdrew in his shell to avoid Sleep Powder, or Rapid Spin.
If only he had done that in the League well
Rapid spin wasn’t part of the move set in Indigo for gen 1 believe it was a gen 2 move because Gary used it in his battle against ash in the silver conference

I always dug Squirtle, I think it had the most fun animation of Ash's Kanto starters, seeing it going into Shell Mode and trouncing everything in its path. Also, thank you for scarring me with that Squirtle gif. I'm going to have nightmares about it for weeks now. I think Squirtle's had enough screen time on the show though, probably not necessary for it to come back anymore.
Also, ye, that Pokemon League battle with Ritchie was so rigged. Charizard didn't listen, Squirtle loses because falling asleep, and Pika was tired. TR rocket made him late. It just was not a good day for Ash.
Tauros would've tanked all of Richie's team imo

Professor Alex Silver Ash didn’t even use Tauros until like Orange Islands. I blame poor writing for that scuffed battle. They hyped up Ash and Ritchie and ended up being a letdown.
