6 cups of All Purpose Flour
1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
1 Tbsp of Instant Yeast
Zest of 1 Orange
1 Tbsp of Vanilla Extract
1 Tbsp of Salt
1/2 cup of Milk
1/2 cup of Water
1/2 cup (1 stick) of Unsalted Butter

My grandmother would make Easter bread for all the grandchildren. She would take a little piece of the dough and form it into our initials and place it on the top. Happy Easter!

My mother used the same recipe, with the exception of the orange zest. She added a tablespoon of anise seeds. 4th generation continuing the tradition 😊

I made this one year using the old recipe with hard boiled eggs, and the long-style rainbow jimmies and it was just incredible. Can't imagine how good this would be with the added crunch from the nonpareils. I preferred it when it was fresh, soft and chewy; but it was still delicious to the very last bite. Will be making this again soon!

You did much better than me, Laura. I wouldn't have even realized I forgot the salt. Would have made the whole thing, baked it, then realize it when it didn't taste right.
How long do you raise the dough during the first rise?
Absolutely proof the yeast! I love Laura, but the American "instant yeast" does NOT work in this recipe. I wasted so many ingredients following this. I made it again, used yeast, the correct way. We live, and learn! Happy Easter all! ❤
Really I just made this with instant yeast . I just covered it and waiting for it to rest . I was worried I killed the yeast because I added the salt with the other ingredients. I heard salt mixed with yeast can kill it ….

From a block away, it's easy to see you love tradition. My Mom gave me a starter set when I moved out forty some years ago. Still have it. When she passed two years ago, I inherited her 1960's era Sunbeam Mixmaster. Still works(!). That bread is dynamite. Thanks.

I just made this with instant yeast and followed exact recipe. My dough did not rise and is heavy as a brick. What’s the problem?
Same here mine is not even rising one bit . Someone else commented they wasting so much because the instant yeast doesn’t work need to proof the yeast . Which is warm water , sugar and yeast . Mixed for about 5 min then mix with flour and salt I feel like the salt killed the yeast
Same with the milk and coffee but we’re Hispanic 😅 do you do the same with Mia ?
She only likes warm milk lol

You only keep it soft the day it’s made
