  • A Short backswing does not have to be an issue, in fact it can be a benefit to your golf swing and if you use the right technique, you can have an effortless golf swing for power and consistency.
Having a short backswing is often seen as a bad thing for a golf swing and often times people wanting to get more power and distances, think they need to swing longer. Not true. Just look at Tony Finau golf swing.
One of most powerful, yes he is a PGA tour player and not a senior golfer but if you do a short backswing correctly, you will have good consistency and power with the simple golf moves through the ball.

ABOUT ALEX AND THE ART OF SIMPLE GOLF
    -----------------------
Golf wins in the complication department. No other sport boasts the amount of gadgets, swing fixes, variations of balls, clubs, tees, courses, not to mention weather!, however, it is not as difficult as you have been led to believe.
Or at the very least as complicated and frustrating as the golf industry has you made you you think.
The Art of Simple Golf was born when confusion overruled the joy of golf.

Thank very much for your video about short swing. I was having back problems, and pain. As a senior golfer that began playing golf at age 50, I was trying to perform full back swing in order to get more distance. But since I watch your video I practice my new short back swing at home, and I realized that it can be easily perform so I will enjoy a lot more years of playing golf without hurting my body.

This is very good thank you. Somehow I got to this shortening regime myself last year and my golf, distances and accuracy improved dramatically. But I didn't see any coaches advocating this method. Since then I have tried more to lengthen my swing- always wanting more!!! and the accuracy and consistency went down hill. So it's back to the range again to get those short swing basics engrained. Especially now I have your lesson to turn to. Many thanks.

I find it fascinating how your effortless swing at 12.55 sends it further than I can hit a PW with best effort 😟
I’ve only been playing a few months and I’ve found your videos the best to follow. I do believe though that I’m just never going to get any good distances.
My 6 iron maxes out at about 130 - 140. I’ve tried the suggestions in your videos. I do weight shift and have light wrists etc. if I can just hit the ball more than 50% of the time, I’ll settle for that.
Low expectations, but that’s about being realistic I think.
Again, thanks for the videos they help.

Whatever we can do to help the golf swing stand the test of time and still perform is good. Just also note how much you resist or open the hips on backswing. Less resistance the better as a rule with back pain

Cool! I've been working on the short move. So much easier on the body! Short swingers can get serious free power from very soft wrists in the transition and no down pull with the arms. Think low and wide on the takeaway and let then let it float up while you shift the weight to the left heel, turn through and Boom! If you get to the left and don't tighten up the arms you'll flush it.

I am a beginner and I love your methodology of teaching. I am a tennis player so I do understand the concept of weight shift, contact and follow through.
I am however not clear about the angle of the plane of the golf club in relation to your body. Do you understand my question? Do you think you can somehow give a diagrammatic aerial view of the path of the club prior to contact?
