Try this now and let me know how it feels to you. Does it help to simplify some good moves? Do you think you try and do too much? Just be sure to still stay relatively centered and not turn and reach too much. . A line on floor or use a mirror to help.
Yes
I was a scratch golfer 20 years and two strokes ago. I lost some of my game after the 1st stroke, started getting it back and lost it completely after my 2nd stroke due to some brain damage. I've been fighting to get my game back and I have to say watching your videos is slowly bringing it back. My neurologist says it'll take up to 3 years for my brain to heal but your videos are helping immensely to help bring it back!
I just want to say thank you.
I have a pretty long road ahead, but I just keep moving forward following your drills, thanks for what you're doing.
thank you - please more of this "feeling" classes ;-)
At last !!! Someone who realises that we aren't all built like tour pros or indeed can handle a club like they do! Brilliant piece of understanding and application. Many thanks
Appeciate that! But most importatly hope this is something to help you specifically. We have plenty on the channel and website too that should too.
You have changed my entire game with your videos, I never new how how power you can generate with such an effortless swing. Thank You so much for these amazing videos.
Wonderful to hear that thank you for sharing and keep at it!
more like WOW...different feel on the downswing to follow through, thank you very much!
Nice!!
Thankyou. This is going to be my first exercise at the range when it opens.
No need for a range! The main part is no club.. get out the chair now, give it a try. Use a mirror if needed to see if moving off the center too much etc... get the feels right, then add club, then let go at the range:)
After watching this video, I went to the range, and focused on extending my arms on the backswing, and on the downswing. This is a game changer. My ball striking improved 100%. THANKS!!!
Excellent!! Remember to keep some fluid flow and not get too rigid and you will keep improving.
Growing up also loved watching Faldo and Big Ernie’s effortless swing. Another great piece, timeless advise.
Good to hear! Thanks
This is the second video of yours that I’ve watched. Simple but effective concepts. Well done.
Glad you liked it!
Great one. It’s the simple ones that are most useful to me on the course. Too much thought eliminates athleticism.
Great to hear!
Another fine video. Brought back memories. I played with Nick Faldo at Royal Melbourne in the JW Classic in the 90s in the Proam. Great privilege. Now, after some major sholder repairs and a 10 year gap, I am back on the course but find I am falling forward with my down swing and release. Your last 2 videos could be the tips I need. Playing tomorrow. Will keep you posted.
Glad you enjoyed it and let us know how it went!!
Yes, Yes, YES. Felt it straight away.
Marvelous!!
A'HA is an understatement. What a great video and thank you.
Thank you and hope it helps along with others here and on the site too!
This simple golf swing is absolutely Sensation greetings from Germany
Welcome! Glad to have you here :)
Great video coach. Its Mike Austin swing. You just simplified it. But many will still not get it, ball will come in their way
This almost solves a puzzle I've had some time. Definitely practicing this way.
Let us know how it goes!
It’s an excellent lecture that is really easy to understand. Thank you so much.
Hope it helps you!
Thankyou!!! What a very good explained golf lesson! I was trying to teach muy grandson how to make a simple turn.....now I've got It!
Super to hear and hope it gives him a a’ha :)
I have been struggling with a seemingly ineradicable slice with my iron shots for several months. After using this drill it has now gone, thank you so much.
Well that’s marvelous to hear! I’m sure we have other lessons on here and the website that will help in other areas too
This is another great video from Alex. I applied it today and played so much better, provided I remembered to point the left shoulder down and NOT pull it around. The combination of this drill and understanding how the left shoulder really works on the backswing is priceless. Thank you👍
Awesome! Yes this is a great staple for many golfers. Thanks for sharing your success for others to validate it. Keep at it 👍🏌️♂️🏆
After watching this i took it on the course, i can honestly say i have never hit my irons so good thank you so much.
Excellent and well done!
Took this to the course and wow, hit some really solid shots, not all but think I need to work on this more.
I think as a senior I’ve become too narrow over time but until now hadn’t realised it, thx
Great! We have some lessons on feeling width especially with trail arm that may well help “swing” instead of drill and bridge the gap
Great lesson Alex. Never seen this before - thanks for sharing 👏🏌️♂️
Cheers Tony!
Thanks for sharing this tip, it is really a key when you look at it, it stops the sway completely!
Indeed it does!
Very simple drill to be in the flowing golf swing...Thank you very much!....Cheers!!!
No problem 👍
After years of golf videos, I’ve finally found a great lesson! Cheers mate!
Well I’m honored for you to say that! Hope it helps :)
Like this video, simple and direct!!
That’s the goal:)
Great lesson and great video and audio quality. Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding, perfect love it, I'm off to Thailand to play golf for the first time in years. Thank you

Why thank you ☺️ glad to have you with us!!
Great lesson, so comprehensive. Thank you.
Good to hear 🏌️♂️👍
Great info as always!!! Keep the at-home practice coming!!
Most golfers don't get a chance to hit the range/course/home simulator so these become invaluable tips.
Right on. Keep at it and thanks for feedback!
Took 20 years off and forgot the feel. This video nailed it and got me back on track. Thanks
Good to hear that Welcome back :)
Gives weight shift without thinking😊 Thanks!
Exactly!! Just be sure to still stay relatively centered. A line on floor or use a mirror to help.
Good jobs. Many people try to put a lot of thoughts in the slit second and make them feel wise. Simple is the best.
That's the goal!!
Thank you sir. I'm working on your swing technique and it does help. I bend my arm both back n forward swing alot which gave me chicken swing. This exercise help me straight my arm n I hit the ball more solidly n doesn't have feel like I have to beating up or try to kill the ball. Just swing through the ball. Thx
Excellent and this should help a great deal along with some of the lessons on effortless flow
This is a great video to learn the swing basics. During a round, i often lose the feel of the backswing by the 7th or 8th hole like I'm not turning ...this will go a long way in helping me. Thank you. I will incorporate the downswing part also.
Great! Remember though... the most important thing is to be precise with your objective and where you want the ball to go and the flight. Tell your brain and body to see and feel what you want to do with intent. Then the swing has a much better chance of responding to the result you desire. Couple that with simple and sound mechanics...
Great!
Great lesson, definitely will be working on that one. ASAP
Super! Let me know how it feels to you and if any questions:)
@TheArtofSimpleGolf thank you - very helpful as many other of your classes - one thought: would it be feasible or helpful to group some of your classes in playlist so that one eventually accesses them in a linear manner
Great video and great information! Thank you very much!
More than welcome and hope it helps
Nice explanation Alex. Easy to understand
Thanks and hope it helps!
Fantastic drill great feeling,it works
Wonderful. Let us know how it goes
Not alot of coaches talk about the drill where you push a ball back on your takeaway. That drill gives me a good feel on how to make a good backswing.
Yeh great drill and we cover it in a couple of videos for sure
Similarly, I like to have something (ball marker) a couple feet behind the ball and almost brush over it on my backswing. Grooves a wider takeaway... and I don't need to chase a ball every time 😉
@@tretre4435 spot on
Very interesting, I well over do it in backswing, much easier feel, thankyou
Great! Use it a few times in a fluid move and it should help a lot. Adding the club is the next step. Keep at it ;)
Feels new but simple and effective drill!
Great and hope it helps along with others we have on the channel and website;)
Great lesson. Exactly what I have been struggling with
Glad to hear it resonated
Outstanding teaching.
Thank you kindly 👍🏌️♂️
Getting out of the chair really helped! Thank you !
Glad you stood up :)
Brilliant just brilliant
Why thank you! Hope it helps you!
This is great advice...thanks
Hope it helps!
Very helpful! Thank you!
Cheers and hope it’s what you need right now
special thanks from Korea !!!
Welcome!!!
Wow! this is really cool. Exactly addresses the inconsistency in my swing. Thank you.
Super!! Let us know how it goes
One more thing. Does this work for woods and irons?
@@sleddog8 yes indeed. Just alter set up and add flow with a feeling of heavy club in arms.
Thanks!
More than welcome and thank you kindly for the tip 👍💪⛳️
Thank you so much for making this video. I now know what a proper golf swing "Feels Like". After practicing this drill for one week, I'm hitting the ball farther and more consistently.
Well that is great news!! Keep at it!
Unbelievable. Got the feeling straight off. Been looking for the basic rhythm of a golf swing for years. Thank goodness I clicked on your video. Thank you very much for the layman terms us high handicappers can take on board without getting blown out of the water with golfing science. Off to practice it in the garden before the wife gets up.👍😂
How did it go?
It went really well, practicing is the fundamental part of golf to gain the enjoyment this wonderful game deserves 👍👍
@@courtneypark2549 excellent
Great content and approach to fundamentals. The only thing I'd add which you do refer to is to keep the head quiet and focus on a ball on the ground even without the club. Basic body swing concept with the body as the engine of the swing. I'm going to check you site for the shallowing in the downswing I'm working on. Please keep up the good work.
I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:(
Anyway, thank you. Very much and hope others we have help too
I’ve been desperate to use the three right hands that Hogan talked about. So I didn’t concentrate upon the critically important straightening of my arms on the backswing and follow through. Though I can’t run right out to a practice range like my frustrated friend can, I know that these ideas you have shared will help me. All the good ideas about the golf swing are associated with this basic practice. Thanks , after a frustrating round of golf at a championship golf course Lords Valley CC Golf Course where my drives were seriously off ,though my short game was at times very good, left me needing to understand the weaknesses of my swing.
Glad to hear it’s resonated with you. Keep at it!
Hello first time to watch your channel great video I am now subscribing now.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks I will try this out
Tell us after how it goes
Good stuff!
Cheers!
Nice for beginners and myself
Hope it helps you!
I tried this drill realised I could not do it without extreme effort so repeated it dozens of times and with a 5kg dumbbell. Next round of golf I was hitting the best shots for years and for the first time decent divots after the ball. Thank you so much 1 simple thing has transformed my golf swing, a proper shoulder turn.
I’m very glad to hear that. Well done for sticking with it to break through. Keep at it!
Great lesson!
Hope it helps!
So simple. This is mind blowing. My 12 year old has a severe chicken wing and this might be the fix. Thanks.
We have some others on the release that should help too! Cheers!
Knowing me, knowing u aahhaaarrr brilliant thanks
😀🏌️♂️
Great drill
Hope it helps you:)
Wow, I really like the drills before adding a club. Let’s see if I can add the club correctly enough for a pretty good golf swing.
Yes and let us know how you get on
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Definitely something I need to stick with. Many folks “hang back” on there right side, including me. Try reaching the left arm extended out one has to do a full turn or cannot reach it. There are other issues though, swing too fast and hard. Also coming over the top which is more noticeable on clubs past 7 iron.
Ernie best swing anytime !!
Slick and smooth.
Great drill!
Hope it helps you!
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Already has! Thank you!
Thanks enjoyed
Hope this and other ms help too

Awesome
Why thank you!
I’ve got the ah ha moment
Thanks for your advice
No problem 👍🏌️♂️
(Larry San Diego) Thought i would drop a note on my progress. Only doing this drill for week #2 and doing 50 repetitions on each side and 50 with a club on both sides as well. At the range I am only focusing on this drill only. It doesn't cloud my mind with other numerous drill thoughts I have been doing.
That's good to hear. Simple is the missing piece for too many. Remember to keep flow in your swing with this body move and timing. Soft arms and wrists etc.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it and hope it helps you :)
Ironically, I just 'discovered' this move for myself in my basement 'swing lab' this afternoon. Haven't taken it to the course yet, but was smashing it into the net - and it's so easy to repeat. Prior to this, I've always tried to keep the rear elbow (left for me as a lefty) close to my torso. I'm 60, and still have good mobility, and I'm hoping this results in some more distance. We shall see. Was glad to see this vid confirming I might be doing something right.
Good to hear and keep us posted!
Wow! Kathernina, you and Bill Jordan (from below post) must be twins who live together and have the same exact swing...Are we really having "bots" now answer golf swing instructional videos???
I thought I was quite limber, but ouch! That really stretches the muscles along my flanks! That's a very different feel than I'm used to.
To easy and learn from the feel. Don’t force it:)
I just tried hitting some and this works great. That left arm stretch-reach is good in my pre-shot routine until I practice enough to feel natural but already it has greatly improved my swing plane and shot consistency. Thanks!
@@TedInoue Ted I saw your comment about stretching the muscles along your flanks. I don't mean to get in your business but I don't think you should be feeling that. I think maybe you are not turning your hips nearly as much as you think you are. I am 70 and have no trouble with a substantial shoulder turn. Try straightening your trail leg in the backswing. Years ago that was the way the backswing was taught.
My handicap dropped from a 10 to a 6 within 3-4 weeks after watching this! Thanks so much for making this video.
Fantastic! And thank you so much for sharing!
This makes sense and helps a lot. When I see pros driving they almost get vertical on their backswing. Is is more about the way they rotate?
I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:(
Anyway, thank you. Its not using the wrists as much so club stays outside hands longer usually.
I like the simple swing process, especially keeping head centered, in your videos with the side view shows a bit of head sway in the impact zone. Would have liked to see the side shot with wedge swing hitting the golf ball. When my head sways it’s weak high and right, but good video
Head away in impact zone? Forward it back? How do you tend to sway. ?
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf My head tends to move toward the target on the downswing which is causing inconsistent contact with high right fade/slice. I have to pick a spot on the ball that I can look at on the downswing to keep this lateral head sway toward the target to a minimum
@@golfnut8665 2 ideas for you. Practice some swings (no club ) with head against the wall and ensure you tilt you head back a little. This will help open up without feeling like head I’m is stuck.
Other is to forget the head... just focus on rotating the sternum. Try making swings with thumb in middle of chest with left arm so elbow is out. You will feel like you rotate up and left
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thanks for the tips!!!!
Thanks for this video. This has really put my golf swing into perspective. Great information and training exercise.
Great drill. Luv it. Took forever for u to start talking bout it. Almost lost me there.
Sorry about that glad we got there:)
多謝!
🏌️♂️
Great lesson! Another suggestion for those who still find themselves swaying/reaching a little in each direction when trying to slap your hand (like me). Instead of slapping your hand in each direction, try uppercut punching your hand in each direction. I find that helped me stay centered and to really rotate my shoulders down more instead of lateral. @
The Art of Simple Golf do you foresee any issues with that approach?
Nope ;) czcams.com/video/aeti66SkS_g/video.html
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Ha! I genuinely hadn’t seen that. Great stuff! Keep up the fantastic work really enjoy your videos!

so is this a ha ha golf swing thing or a a ha golf swing thing. I have really been struggling on my golf swing feel thing, distance, feel, shanks, OB situations, getting stuck in the bunker after like three swipes, etc. I think I am nuts because I keep going back?!? ah Man Sir Nick!!! and the Big Easy.
Me I am like Sir Shankalot Big Sleazy to be honest.
Thank you sir for a nice great video and your information here!!
😂🏌🏆
Great old school advice. To many moving parts for me...but thats just me.
Hope this made a difference
(Larry San Diego) Alex, just started this very simple and uncomplicated A'AH! drill. is there a downswing squat move that i am missing?
A little yes. Cover it in other videos about the intent and shift /squat.
Want to try this out later in the nets! I keep fighting this urge to hit at the ball, and I know I shouldn't do it but my big man muscles & ego keep getting in my way! 🤣
This should help if you add flow
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf so...here is some feedback. I was hitting balls yesterday & this elderly woman came upto me and said I have such a beautiful swing. Which hardly ever happens! She was like all these big men just want to hit the ball so far and she could see I was just swinging nice and easy thru the ball. My ball striking felt amazing as well. So just want to say thank you (: Still lots of work to do but feels like I'm finally going in the right direction thanks to your videos.
@@ShaneAlanGower she’s knows a thing or two ;) keep at it! Well done
(Larry-San Diego) Been struggling with "lifting on my backswing which results in lots of thin shots with all clubs. Would you recommend this drill or another?
Hi, yes it can help... the wind up backswing and left chest down will help too :)
Hi Alex I am very grateful for the guidance you are giving. Yesterday I scored 81, 13 over. I played very well and consistently. Today I gave up counting. I now that all day I was swaying with the backswing. Do you have a simple way of me avoiding the sway of my large bottom. I also watched Nick Faldo and won a lovely bottle of whisky he donated after winning the open.
Hi, and glad you’re with us. The feel is to tilt down.
And also you can imagine a flagpole through you and swing around it.

@@stephenmcnulty3706 wonderful!!!
Hi Alex, I chanced upon your videos recently, and was trying to apply them when I injured my right knee with a slight patella fracture. Now my right leg is immobilized. I am 69, have been playing for 20+ years. I met Nick Faldo at St Andrews in 1999 and liked his swing. Is there a way to exercise and/or practice your simple swing in my present state? Thanks.
Well that sucks. I’m sorry to hear that about your leg. You can still have the trail leg back and more weight on front side and even hit shots (well without a serious injury people can) but many ty tha. We have some videos on it as there are lots of benefits.
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thanks Alex. Guess I won't be able to do much for another 4 to 6 weeks. I have been running your instructions thru my mind. Great to have links to the videos you mentioned.
How do I practice flexibility for my backswing? My body raises up when I turn to achieve a full backswing due to years of heavy weightlifting. Thanks
Depends... the hips are tight so if you flare open your toe it will help, same for closed stance a little. But this might slow your hip move through so I’d you get some fat you need to try to simply wind up to straighten the right leg a little more...
recent video on winding rather than turning should help
Always good info, but when might it be demo’d in less than 15,000 words?
Always try and blend succinct and to the point with the need (to stop folks pinballing from tip to tip) to know that it’s applicable to oneself and also exactly why. Then can determine if it’s the right fit for right now. But yes… always room for improvement and every week get a little better ;)
What kind of practice can be done to ensure that the club face can hit the ball at the right spot(i. e. At the bottom of the ball) ? What usually happens is the club face hits the ground first, or hits the middle of the ball.
#giri, bandung, indonesia
This may help czcams.com/video/yM8NFtTsyds/video.html
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thanks...!
will the hands and wrist square the club without me trying to square the club face?
If you keep supple in wrists yes and not too open into entry czcams.com/video/kGtmMyeUCZs/video.html
Another great drill is to start in your follow-through let the club swing down and back into the backswing, that is a good feeling for your backswing
Yes indeed!!
No, I think I have that motion down, but my head gets in the way and most of the time I hit it thin to keep from hitting it fat or, hit it fat to keep from hitting it thin.
The low hands feel may help. Have a video on it. Also got another video coming out this week I think that may help
Is it okay to bend the left arm or keep it absolutely straight during the backswing?
you do not HAVE to. But it can help the variables. It should not be locked firm either
