I think Thor's character Ark recently is him in Ragnarok using humor to cover up his trauma. After Age of Ultron, he has his whole world die. In the start of Ragnarok, he comes to the realization that it could happen. He's calm for some time and is fine just being funny until his father dies and sister takes Asgard. That's when he goes back to using it to cover up his pain. Then Asgard explodes but his people are still alive. So he finds that middle ground of him being his usual self and his humorous self. Then half of his people die, his brother, best friend and he gets his ass handed to him. So instead of being his middle grounded self at the end of Ragnarok, he's now trying to hide not fear but depression.
