Appalachian music and dance has strong links to the Scottish tradition. From memory, around half the original settlers were Scots and they brought their music and dance with them. It's morphed into a distinctive tradition of its own, but the DNA is still there. There were also a significant number of Scots-Irish.

Great! I used to sing this at the Renaissance Faires & Dickens Fair back in "the day". Good old Love Henry or Young Hunting Child #68.

Thank You so much for this. And for the lyrics and for the side notes. Many years ago I sang Love Henry which is a Child Ballad.

Ho, it looks quite surreal with added colour. Thank you for doing this. It's precious.

That was awesome. He was the the first thumb lead banjo player I heard and I fell in love with the style. That song has so many lyrics that are in Dick Justice’s Henry Lee. I love finding those connection.
