  • Hello :)
    I haven't done a sit down and talk video in such a long so I'm kind of awkward in this one... but I really wanted to share more about my experience this summer studying abroad in Seoul, Korea and wanted to introduce you guys to this program!!
    In this video, I will be going through the basic steps of the application process, as well as how to navigate the website because everything is pretty much done there. If you have any more questions, I am also more than happy to answer them! Especially if they are specific ones about housing, living in Korea, transportation and other things I didn't touch on in this video ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

    Hello! Thank you for making this video it was very helpful! I’m thinking about Yonsei University and I was wondering how much you ended up spending in terms of personal expenses? (Food, necessities, travel, shopping, etc.) thank you :)

    • @kristyklin
      @kristyklin  Před 3 lety +1

      hii!! to be honest I don't remember exact numbers but it honestly really depends on what you want out of the experience! for me it was my third time in Korea so I didn't spend a lot on shopping and touristy things this time. Food wise, I would say average is $10-15 a meal if you are eating out but it can change a lot depending on if you are sharing food or eating snacks instead of full meals!
      For travel, we went to Jeju Island and then in Seoul it was mostly just bus and walking so not too expensive so I think for all that was around the $500 mark (plane tickets, bus, taxi sometimes.. etc)
      Shopping, again really depends because I didn't have to buy much when I was there!!

    Hi! If I can't get the exchange spot and going as a study abroad student, would it be cheaper to apply directly to yonsei? Since UBC has a fee for applying too? Also, when do you find out if you qualify as an exchange vs. study abroad student? Thank you!

    • @kristyklin
      @kristyklin  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm not sure what you mean by fee if you're applying with ubc but to yonsei directly!! If it is the Go Global fee, I think ubc still wants you to go through the Go Global program but if you end up being a "student abroad" student, you just have to pay the tuition to Yonsei. The difference is that if you are in the Go Global program, it makes it a lot easier for UBC to transfer your credits and you're somewhat still going as a UBC student and can qualify for the scholarships they offer for exchange students. Without the Go Global program, the process to get your credits transferred will be longer and more complicated.

    Do you have to be enrolled into a private university to go? Right now i'm in a community college and have to transfer to a 4 year university so i can get my major in secondary education or Asian studies.

    • @kristyklin
      @kristyklin  Před 3 lety +2

      im not sure about this because it can depend on a few different things! I would check with the school/program that you want to exchange to and what requirements they have (they shouldn't specify like what school they accept or not because I think they mostly just look at grades) -- and then also check with your community college if they have any program that helps you do exchange! from my understanding, you might still be able to go without the help of your college but you just might not get the transfer credits, but your eligibility to go and get accepted from the Korean university shouldn't change too much depending on what school you are coming from! I would advise you to email their admissions office if you have any questions because they might be able to help too :)

    Hi! I wanted to ask 3 questions?
    1) if i was to take korean language course and the korean cinema are those two different course or are they together?
    2) how can I see the requirements to get in or well to get accepted to see if i meet it.
    3) Since this is only summer time does it mean that i still have to apply to another university?

    • @kristyklin
      @kristyklin  Před 2 lety

      hey! I'll try my best to answer your questions but also check their website as some of the details might have changed now compared to when I studied abroad in 2019! :)
      1. When I was there, these 2 courses would be considered separate courses. I think the language course was longer class times too compared to the Korean Cinema one.
      2. Requirements: Please refer to the "Application Procedures" on their website: summer.yonsei.ac.kr/home/regist/procedures.asp
      3. Not quite sure what you are asking but the summer term itself does not give you a full degree, it is only a semester of your university experience and so usually students are enrolled at other universities and go to another university to do an 'exchange' or 'study abroad' there - if you want to study at Yonsei for the whole degree (usually takes 4-5 years to complete) then that is a separate application!

    I have 2 questions xoxo:✨
    1. is the korean language course included in the 2 or 3 courses? because i want to do that with Korean Cinema, so is KLI + Korean cinema = 2 or 1 course(s)?
    2. how are the age differences in class? if i want to go summer '21 i'll be 22 and idk I wonder if I'll be with people around my age or younger/older?
    thanks anyway for the video❤️

    • @kristyklin
      @kristyklin  Před 4 lety +4

      hey!! 1. so to my understanding, (at least for the summer courses) KLI was in the afternoon and so students would be taking other courses in the 1st and 2nd periods and then KLI -- but KLI is a course in itself so if you were to take Korean Cinema + the language course, then thats 2 courses total!
      2. To be honest, I don't have the best answer for you :( but in my own personal experience, I didn't really spend a lot of time with the people in the classrooms. The classes were pretty short and there wasn't a lot of time to meet everyone.
      I spent most of the time with people I met in dorms and what happens is usually there will be a big kakao chat/facebook page where people would do introductions and you can just message those you want to meet and usually the first few weeks everyone is kind of meeting eachother in that way?
      If you were to take KLI, the classes are smaller and for a longer time, so a lot of people became close with their KLI classes.
      Regardless of what you're taking, there will be a variety of ages there and I dont think you need to worry about finding people around the same age because I think there definitely will be! You might just have to meet people outside of classrooms and dm them on social media or something ^^
