It's no wonder he decided to use Smash 4 as a basis for Ultimate to save on a bit of time
The mascot character "Nikki" for the Swap Note app gets her name from the japanese word for "diary".
... I am surprised it took me this long to realize that since I should know that from "Future Diary" translating from "Mirai Nikki" :P
In a recent DYKG video, they claim that the "ESRB" leak was from the child (or friend) of a Nintendo employee, presumably one that made footage to send to the ESRB, and that the employee got fired over it.
Yep pretty much is what happened.
Super Smash Bros 3DS is by far my most all time played DS game that isn’t titled pokemon. I have no idea how they were able to make the game feel so good on the 3DS. I also have no idea why Ultimate changed the online mode. Being locked into one character totally ruins the fun for me. Despite ultimate being a much better game overall, I played way more on the 3DS. I value the ability to rematch someone with different characters.
Yeah I played the 3DS one a hell of a lot since I was able to play it on the go. Whether it was to train with a character or to battle with friends. I feel I hardly touched my Ultimate copy haha

14:52 Sandbag and Bomb were meant to be used in Homerun Contest and Target Blast. Both are minigames where you have to damage said "characters" and launch them, so maybe they wanted to show these names on screen
Yeah I figured that with the Sandbag which is why I did reach that conclusion in the video. Bomb however... yeah I can see that. Just never really saw it as a character for it to have one haha
Maybe it's considered a "character" so the game can spawn it and make it receive attacks from the player 🤷🏻♂️

21:52 that's technically not unused. If you go in training mode and set the speed to 1/4, you can hear it. The sound gets cut short when the move ends

I only hate the fact that Wario voice is in Wario's Sound Test in the 3ds. I honestly thought my 3ds was just glitching and never played the sound because other sounds that in the sounds test never ir rarely play for example the sound Yoshi makes when he does his Ground (Down Special) pound it rarely ever plays but is pretty consistent in the Wii Version and Ultimate.

Man, I forgot about the alt moves. They were a lot of fun, I hate how they didn't come back for ultimate.
Yeah I forgot they existed until I started working on this video again. Yeah a shame they didn't stay but imagine the ludicrous amount of work needed to give every fighter custom moves in Ultimate.
I'm glad it didn't return. I never liked it when friends would show up with their characters having alternate moves. It was very non-traditional, I am a proud smash purist. (I haven't had friends come over to play smash bros with me in years nor invite me to play)

@@TheObsessiveGamer Just assumption, but could be the case for Mushroomy Kingdom at least, considering the 1-2 section didn't make it to Smash 4, and a lot of stuffs (including stages) are directly ported from Brawl

Sakurai has confirmed in an interview that the games are different enough to be their own titles despite being developed at the same time. Smash 4 is the Wii U version and Smash 5 is the 3DS version
You mixed it up. Smash 3DS is Smash 4 (based on release) and Wii U is Smash 5
and yet he forced the rosters to stay the exact same. Wish he did at least keep that mentality. It's why the fanbase still calls them both Smash 4.

Touch Generation, Nintendogs, Tomodachi Life and Ice Climbers categories: went completely unused

Skull Kid: used to have a flute with him and actually rendered with his face and beak

Icons: Never actually appeared in game. This transformed the boss fights into guessing games.
Petey Piranha: has a list of animations that go unused and was presumed to be a Wii U exclusive.

"Super Smash Bros." for Nintendo 64: never actually made it
"Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light": only exists in Japanese versions of Smash 4
*Unused Stages*
Dr. Mario: had a boss icon and an image that presumably showed what the stage would look like. Beyond that however, no further data exists.
Mark_30_BrainTraining.NUT: believed to be the name for a stage based on the game, "Brain Age". No further data exists.
Plankton: believed to be the name of a stage based on the game, "Electroplankton". It later returned in Ultimate.
Diary: believed to be a stage based on Swap Note, as the Japanese version of the game had the word "diary" in it.
*Beta Stages*
3D Land: used to have a different layout.
Magicant: used to use a 3D Wingman model instead of the flat 2D pixel art used in the final game.
Boxing Ring: made noticeably simpler.
Miiverse: had slight changes.
Trophy Rush: used to have a longer time limit.
Mario Circuit: blue Toads were believed to be appear in the game.
Windy Hill Zone: used to have animals from Sonic inhabiting them.
Reset Bomb Fortress: Viridi, who made an appearance in this stage, used to have roses on her head, but were removed for reasons unknown to me.
Mushroomy Kingdom and 3D Land: had empty files that made people believed the two stages were planned to exist in the Wii U version of Smash 4.
Super Mario Land: presumably replaced by Kirby's Dream Land
Kirby's Epic Yarn: turned into the infamous Great Cave Offensive stage, as Yoshi's Wooly World was being worked on. Honestly, a second yarn based stage would be redundant anyway.
The messages, "Unlocked the Gamer stage! Beware of Mother's gaze!" and "Unlocked the Temple stage! Time to fight above the clouds!": believed to have been messages for unlocking the Gamer stage and the Temple stage, which is technically impossible as both stages are there from the get go.
Co-Op Smash Run: never actually happened.
*Unused audio*
Corrin: had screams that were presumably originally used when either gender is being launched
Marth: had alternate dialogue whenever he successfully landed a counter
Pac-Man: had a Galaxian sound effect that was presumably used for a cut victory screen pose
Wario: had a grunt leftover from Brawl
Rosalina: had a playful yell leftover from Mario Kart 7
Zelda: had a leftover sound from Brawl when she turned into Shiek
Narrator/Announcer: reused as lines for Ultimate, apart from him saying, "Clear!"
SSB4_GameOver: originally a game over song, but was scrapped for unknown reasons

Extra 8-Player Smash Rules: never left the planning board

There's no confirmation for this, but I think one of the reasons 8-Player Smash was feasible in the first place on the Wii U was because of the removal of the Ice Climbers.
Yeah potentially, though Switch runs them just fine, but maybe it hit JUST over the technical limit there

There were limits on how many stages 8-Player Smash can be played on Wii U after all, and that's why I think stages like Orbital Gate Assault were omitted in Ultimate.

Indeed. As I mentioned it was from an "insider leak". This leak was considered pretty reliable as much of its information turned out to be correct and since some data exists to point ot Rhythm Heaven, it is why this one is considered as a probably true

Honestly my least favorite Smash Bros game. It feelsike it was rushed and it made so many concessions and changes I didn't like. We lost a lot of things in this game. Break the targets,a good classic mode and most frustratingly the loss of a event mode. Neither of which were corrected in Ultimate. As Ultimate is just this Smash Bros with more content. Melee and Brawl still reign supreme.
I probably agree here. The problem I think stemmed from how they basically had to make two games so resources were split. It's really unfortunate what happened. I do feel Ultimate was at least a big step in the right direction with at least a proper Single Player mode returning and the classic modes coming to form again.
