    Since you can ride as many as you can, it is sometimes better to take unreserved shinkansen when travelling near by, such as tokyo to shinyokohama or shinosaka to kyoto(but shinosaka station is further from the city center area)
    And you can take faster airport line to tennoji from shinosaka

    • @taewonhwang5416
      @taewonhwang5416 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Another tip is to utilize the ticket agent as many as you can because these days their employement is not 100 percent back from the old days, and they actually suggest those innocent JR pass users to use the ticket machine, which is too specific and crystal clear that foreigners would take too long to get a ticket finally(if you fail one choice you have to start from the beginning), while those expert employees only would issue the ticket in a couple minutes..

And on the left when coming back to Tokyo? I have heard different things. Some people say you sit on the right side when going to Osaka and same when heading back because the train doesn't turn around.

      Hi, another great question, you can use your JR Pass on any most forms of JR transportation. This may include local trains within Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka or anywhere in Japan. Please download and use the Japan Travel app by Navitime as it has the most accurate information regarding which trains are covered with the JR Pass. For all other transportation your Suica or other IC card will suffice. Let us know if you need further clarification :)

    Hello
    I am planning to visit Japan in October, and I really enjoyed watching your videos. It’s very informative and helpful.
    I have a question about buying an ordinary or green car JR Pass for seven days. It seems that both of them can let us book bullet trains. Landing at Narita plan to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and many more. Does it have to be a green car ticket to use a reserved seat esp returning to Narita Airport Express with baggage? What are the pros and cons of an ordinary JR Pass? Thanks in advance.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi. Both ordinary and Green JR Passes allow you to ride Shinkansen bullet trains. With an ordinary JR Pass you can ride in unreserved and reserved ordinary cars (with a seat reservation). With a Green JR Pass you can ride in Green Cars (which are first class cars). Green cars have a bit bigger and more spacious seats. The Green JR Pass also allows you to ride in ordinary reserved and non reserved cars.

    Fantastic guide and great information, thank you!
    I have a couple of questions, if I may:
    1. For the exchange of voucher(s) to JR Pass(es), can one person holding all vouchers\Passports perform this process? You mentioned that all persons must be present, but I want to confirm this.
    2a. If I have a Green Class JR Pass, do I always need to get an "extra" ticket with my seat reservation for the Green car, or could I skip this "extra" ticket and just get into the Green Car? (I understand that I might be sent to the Ordinary Car if all seats in the Green Car are reserved)
    and
    2b. If I have a Green Class JR Pass could I board any Ordinary car on any bullet train without seat reservation? (I understand that the ordinary car(s) might be full and I will need to wait for the next train, and that I am not using the full capabilities of the Green Class Pass )
    Thank you,
    Roberto

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 8 měsíci +1

      1. Hi. Sometimes one person waits in line to redeem the JR Passes while other members of their party wait outside the office. However, we recommend everyone be present, because the attendant could ask to see each person to check that they match with their passport.
      2a. Yes. Green Cars are reserved-only. Every time you want to ride in a Green Car you need to first get a seat reservation ticket.
      2b. If you have a Green JR Pass you can ride in non-reserved ordinary class cars. Or make a reservation for an ordinary class reserved car (say if the Green cars are all full). There are some reserved only trains, such as the Hayabusa Shinkansen headed north towards Hokkaido. For reserved-only trains everyone needs a seat reservation.
      Hope that clarifies. 🌺 Heidi

    Thanks for another great video! I have one question for you🙂 I have red somewhere that you need two tickets to ride the Shinkansen. One that shows the actually car and seat that you have resered, plus one that is for the ride. For me this sounds a bit strange, so I would like to know if this is true or not?😊

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi, this is only true if you reserved a seat. If you are traveling non reserved then you may only have one ticket.
      This is where it gets confusing. Because if you buy an individual Shinkansen ticket then you will be given 2 tickets. One is for the Shinkansen. And the second is for the base fare. Think of the Shinkansen as an add-on to ride a faster train. Note if you also purchased a reserved seat then you will now have 3 tickets!
      I hope this makes sense and didn’t cause more confusion. It’s late my time😀

    Hello, I bought mine already, but still trying to plan things out.. for example what’s the best routes to take from Kyoto-Hiroshima. One that pops up on the JR web is by taking the “Special Rapid Service for Himeji” to transferring in Shin-Osaka first, but does that covered by the JR Rail Pass? I’m not sure whether those Special Rapid are JR. There’s no option to toggle a JR Rail Pass as a filter either. 😅 Thank you!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi, please use the Navitime app. It will show all the routes that are covered by the JR Pass. Once you install it you will se a filter where you can select JR Pass routes.
      On your route look for the Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen. It will go directly to Hiroshima. However these might not be often from Kyoto. So you might need to change trains at Shin-Osaka. If this is the case, then get to Shin-Osaka first by either the Hikari or Kodama or even express train. They are all included with the JR Pass. Then from Shin-Osaka you can choose from multiple different shinkansens that are included with the JR Pass: HIkari and Sakura will be the most common. I Hope this helps, good luck!

    Based on that travel itinerary of just Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, would the JR pass even be worth it? Based on a current price of 50,000 yen for the 7 day pass, the price of the individual tickets from tokyo to Kyoto, kyoto to Osaka, and then return to Tokyo would only be around 36-37000 Yen. It seems if travelers are just visiting those 3 main cities, that the JR Pass isn't a good deal at all.

      @@kami_lover_j7117 local buses will take Suica ... sorry, I need to find out how to take the overnight bus .... I can sleep on the dirt so a bus is great ... if you ever go to Chiba the monorail is so nice but it's really only used by Japanese, not foreigners ....

      There are a few buses that will travel long distance. You can board these at many locations throughout Tokyo and other major cities. Here is one: www.kosokubus.com/en/special/tokyo_kyoto.html

    I am surprised by the poor explanation of the JR pass. The new JR pass is rather expensive and you need to do your math if it is worth your itinerary. I just finished my 7 day Japan trip visiting cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Himeji ... a relative aggressive schedule in 7 days. I spent less than 50000 yen on the ticket booth. Keep in mind the JR pass doesn't include all the Shinkansen trains. It may be confusing to know which train is covered or not. Most Japanese don't speak English and not easy to ask around.

      We have plenty of other videos explaining the basics of the JR Pass, such as our Beginner's Guide to the JR Pass, which discusses figuring out whether the JR Pass is worth it for a particular itinerary: czcams.com/video/fUn5MCYFjNU/video.html The topic of this video is how to get from Tokyo to Kyoto or Osaka using the JR Pass. The Nozomi Shinkansen is now included in the Whole Japan Rail Pass, although it requires paying an extra fee.

      Do you mean 5000 yen?

      @@kilnmaster The current price of the 7-day ordinary Whole Japan Rail Pass is 50,000 Yen, so the comment was referring to spending less than that on individual tickets.

      @KenshoQuest yeah. I'll get "maybe a regional pass" not the Jr pass. Cause I too will be there only 7 days. And buy a single trip ticket from Osaka to Tokyo

      That sounds like a good plan. We have a separate video on ways to go from Osaka to Tokyo without the JR Pass: czcams.com/video/bkcZVmjZr4M/video.html@@kilnmaster

    Would it be possible, please, to make a video without the JR? 😰😰😰
    With the new prices I've read in many places that it isn't worth the JR for the golden route
