    I lost my Shinkansen ticket because I thought the machine ate it after I inserted it in the machine. I strolled to the train and 2 hours later I’m in Kyoto and wondering why they won’t let me leave the station. I did show the cop/security guy my receipt and he called the station in Tokyo to confirm but they said they didn’t find any. I told the security/train staff that I’d be willing to pay for the ticket again to leave the train station (which doesn’t make any sense to me as an American lol), but the staff at Kyoto station let me go as I was super clueless. He said via google translate, don’t do it again otherwise you will pay about another $80 bucks. Seems like this happens way too often tho.

    Thanks for these videos. Travel arrangements has been the more challenging aspect of planning my trip especially with the price increase on the JR pass, so your channel has helped a lot.
    I am not sure if you can answer this, but a part of my trip takes me from Odawara Station (near Hakone) to Minobusan, Yamanashi via the Tōkaidō Line and Minobu Line. Would you happen to know if an IC card can be used for these lines or if I will need to get a single ticket at the stations?

    • @nateshf9303
      @nateshf9303 Před 3 měsíci

      Don't most JR Stations have ic card scanners? And if you can enter the ticket gate at Odawara Station with an ic card then you can get out at your destination.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi, from Odawara station you can take the local train and use your IC card since it is run by Central Japan Railway, but not sure once you get to the Minobu Station. If you cannot there will be plenty of signs warning you about this and if that is the case then you can get ticket(s) for the rest of the journey.

    Very very informative. . We are planning to visit in Nov'24. from Mumbai. Please make a video on accommodation/ hotels or other cheaper options. We wish to cover from Hokkaido to Nagasaki in 12/13 days.
    One question, is it necessary to use chopsticks while eating? We Indians donot know how to use it. Can we eating with spoons n forks?

      @KenshoQuest  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for the comment :). Yes, we are working on hotel accommodation videos. Do let us know your concerns about accommodations.
      Your itinerary covers quite a long distance but doable. As for chopsticks, some restaurants, such as smaller shops will only have chopsticks and maybe soup spoons, therefore we recommend that you carry your own utensils. Eating in larger or chain type restaurants will always have forks and spoons. Have a great trip!

      Each person needs to have their own separate IC card to tap while going through the automatic ticket gate. I have a digital one on my phone. Children ages 6-11 qualify for a Child SUICA card, so they can pay half price for transportation. Hi, I’m going from Tokyo to Kyoto on 3/25 then to Osaka then back to Tokyo. I need three individual tickets for this itinerary (I don’t want the JR Pass unless I can use it with local trains and buses). I want to get these three individual tickets in one booking, I tried on Klook but I can only get one ticket and they charge a fee, I’m okay with paying the fee but I don’t want to pay a fee for each ticket. Do you know how to get these tickets in one booking? Please let me know and thank you for any advice.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, Klook now offers bundles for this route but you might want to check out SmartEX. It's not as user friendly but a good option. Or, you can purchase all from a ticketing machine or JR ticket office once in Japan.
      Also, you can use the JR Pass on local JR trains in both Tokyo and Osaka ( including the Yamanote loop line in Tokyo and the Osaka loop line ) and some buses as well.
      Here is the link to Smart EX, we'll have a video on this in the future:
      smart-ex.jp/en/index.php
      Whichever, you decide, we recommend that you also get an IC card upon arrival to help with local trains and buses since not all will be covered.

      Hi. I recommend getting your kids (6-11 years old) an actual Child SUICA card. This is different than a Welcome SUICA. It is registered with their name on it. If it’s too late or not available at the airport, we were able to get a Child SUICA card recently at Tokyo Station. Available locations keep changing, so it’s best to ask when you arrive. Here’s our video on how to get a child Suica card: czcams.com/video/BbvQurJdOnc/video.htmlsi=ogbZLpqeDXVDZsbw You will need to show their passport at a JR office. 🌸 Heidi

    i have a question, why would you buy the JR passes if apparently it’s cheaper to travel without them? i’m going on may 11th and i WAS gonna get a pass cause i was told it’s better but i’ve calculated the trips i’d take and it’s cheaper by atleast £100 to just pay normally what do you think? cause i’m gonna be solo so maybe less stress having the pass? idk

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před měsícem +1

      It depends on your preference. Would you rather save money, or would you rather have the convenience and flexibility of being about to ride any JR train? The JR Pass allows you to change plans at the last minute without incurring extra expense. It's also no big deal if you accidentally get on the wrong train or miss your train, if you have a JR Pass. Here's our video about whether the JR Pass is worth it: czcams.com/video/hsrZpVYH-ls/video.html

I can't seem to find it in my Klook reservation. Do you have any suggestion as to how I can find that. Also, do you know if I can pick up all my tickets when I arrive in Haneda airport? Sorry the travel part of this is a bit overwhelming even with all the great advice you have given. :).

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi, glad our videos have been helpful :) Since you are traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka on the shinkansen there are only two stations in Tokyo where you can board the shinkansen. Either Tokyo or Shinagawa, my guess is that you purchased for Tokyo station, but it is okay if you also boarded at Shinagawa Station.
      As for picking up, yes you can pickup all at Haneda. You need to find the reserved ticketing machine which will be near the JR ticketing office. Just have your QR code ready. If for some reason the machine isn't working, you can pick up all your tickets at either Tokyo or Shinagawa stations.

      Yes, the train clearly announces the name of the station it will arrive at soon. As soon as you hear that announcement, it's time to gather your belongings and wait near the door. If you accidentally go one stop too far, you could switch to the train going the back the other direction and ride unreserved back to your stop. But it's better to get off at the correct stop!
