4 videos with her and you are yet to ride her. Absolutely LOVE all you are doing with her and for her, and the time you are taking on her. So many people would have tried riding her already just to keep the audience watching. Love to see her health, especially mentally, is your number 1 priority

32 minutes watching and I feel the need to say:
God bless you, Jake, for putting so much love, knowledge, patience, time and effort into healing this beautiful mare!
And she is trying so hard ❤
I met a spanish gelding who wasn't attacking or biting but always fleeing, trembling all over if you just thought about approaching him. After I suggested to the owner what and how possibly to work with him, she said: I neither have time nor money nor the desire to put that much into this horse. 😮
    He is with me now.
He is still learning - so am I. But: Every day spent with him is a gift.
With Remmy it will be too🙏
    Love from Germany!

It was interesting to see you lay her down. I was doing the exact same thing with my new puppy. He's 5 months old, Great Pyrenees and Anatolian cross. So he's quite large even now. It's vital that I establish good communication with him as I am training him to be my service dog. I also have a TB filly (4 years old, but looks like she's 2!) and I'll be training her as well. I want all positive things because fear has no place here. I am a disabled, former breeder, trainer and riding teacher. I may never ride her, but she will be so nice to love on!

I love what you do, Jake! I laughed out loud when you said the thing about the clicker. I'm not totally certain she was abused... i think it's actually possible that her slightly dominant sensitive nature taught people to work around her instead of safely teaching her to be confident working around people. The way she thinks she needs to be in certain positions definitely seems to be a learned response and looks release based to me, not fear based.

Chance, but it keeps getting better so to me it’s a lack of balance in her training and experience that causes the preference.

This mare acts like some horses I have seen with vision issues. I am probably way off base but she is so resistant to the right side.... a fear .

Calm, confidence by the handler invites trust. But, apart from 'tradition' why spurs? They are designed to inflict pain and so fear of same. Seems to be the opposite of the methods you are using to help this horse understand she can trust people.

Spurs aren’t made to inflict pain. Made to communicate to a horse and be able to be a strong enough communication to elicit commitment to the yield. Aka hot enough lava to be worth not touching. When aides aren’t able to be strong enough to be consistent in the I wouldn’t do that if I were you, horses are less trusting because of the inconsistency. Calm confident consistent gentle as possible and firm as necessary clear communication invites trust.

For clarity and precision. Not pain and fear; spurs (like any tool) are misused when it's that way.

      - Thank you for taking the trouble to respond,
I remain unconvinced and feel that if an animal doesn't respond as desired, its understanding/trust isn't yet at a level for the question asked of it.
Plus, less than good horse people will use spurs inadvisedly seeing a top horseman use them.
I no longer ride but I was given spurs, very short blunted ones to ride a little horse at my instructor's centre many years ago. She insisted I did because it would encourage me to keep my lower leg still. Effective because each time a spur inadvertently and gently touched this horse's side, he stopped dead. Not taught to do that, he just didn't like or want that feeling. Improved my lower leg position/use no end.
I now train dogs to quite a high competition level, I don't use anything negative to reach the various levels. If they don't get it right or are inconsistent, I look to myself to see what I'm not making clear. If necessary, going back to simpler things and working out what I'm getting wrong.
I look forward to seeing Remmy learn trust and understanding what is required in a positive way.

I think someone abused this horse just watching her react when he enters her pen. She knows this man wasnt the abuser but acts afraid or trying to avoid him. She does appear to be coming around.

I respectfully disagree with the beginning intro and going into the enclosure with this horse. I see a horse who feeling trapped and anxious and is communicating with her facial expression and body language that she is not feeling ready for any contact. Eventually she just gives up and is obedient . But look at her eye and face . She is not receptive to what is being asked. My suggestion would be to approach her and notice when she notices you. Could be 50 ft away when she will cock an ear. I would then stop and wait for her to give some sort of sign of relaxation . I would keep doing that, slowly decreasing the distance, until she shows signs of comfort and relaxation in my presence ( soft eye, relaxed jaw, dropped head) before asking for anything else. What choice does she have here except to submit? I don’t think she is being mistreated. I feel and see the kindness towards her. But ultimately her issues are emotional from not being responded to when she has politely said “ no I’m not ready yet”. So when she is not heard she increases her protestations until she is biting and bucking . I think her training will progress more rapidly when she can be in a receptive and teachable state. Otherwise she is going to to keep on feeling tense and will continue to blow up from time to time. I hope that makes sense and again no disrespect. I appreciate all the thoughtfulness and kindness being shown . I just think it is too fast and too much for her when she is so tense.

and with a horse like this, you would be 50 yards away 10 years later. He did change how he did it in the small pen when it got too much for her, but never going closer than she allows comfortably, you would never get anywhere near this horse.
