I don't even care that it didn't win. The fact that a stock car gave Europe a run for it's money is flex. Hopefully we can make this a thing every year!🇺🇸🦅
There is nothing stock about a stock car anymore really, so yeah, getting some tech that under an artificial set of Nascar rules not applicable here would do the trick.
What flex? They failed...They were in their own unregulated class thats why they were faster, plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
Also that "stock" car was only 15% of the original cup car...
@@newone-gd9skyeah we know, and we don't care.
@@nitsu2947 So you are proud an unregulated car was faster than regulated ones? Uff
@@newone-gd9sk yeah, we're proud and don't care if you think we shouldn't
It took the officials at Lemans less than 20 hours to figure out that the NASCAR Camaro was a crowd favorite. Smart move to allow them to change out the gearbox and get back out on track to finish the race and continue to entertain the racing masses! Brilliant!
That’s brilliant really. This is all round such a feel good moment in motorsport? Almost as if a cultural chasm is being bridged. Or maybe that’s just me 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And you can't call them unreliable since the gearbox wasn't meant to be in a nascar cup car. But the engine prove everyone that they have one beautifully sounded reliable engine
People love to diss NASCAR, those individuals are not true fans of motorsports. A true fan appreciates all forms of racing and the cars involved. Hendrick Motorsports showed what these machines are capable of!
I love all forms of motorsports but grew up on Nascar. Every time a formula one champ enters a Nascar race they get alot of hype and then run in the back of the field. When 7 time Nascar champion Jimmy Johnson went over to IRL he was a back marker. Not easy to come into someone else's playhouse and be competitive without alot of testing. Something Jimmy didn't get the luxury of doing. Simulation doesn't replace actual testing.
The fact they went in and didnt expect much from it and ended up beating a lot of LMP2, GTE category contenders, and even some hypercars on its first running suprised me.
Now if they can have it shed a good quarter ton, and add a good hundred extra horses to fight with the hypercar class I'd love to see it 😂
Nascar is just turning to the left sometimes. But not always ❤
This car is nothing like a NASCAR Cup legal car. This thing is closer to an LMP2 in terms of power and modifications, as the only entry they had no limitations, so, of course it was going to be *very* competitive in comparison to the other regulated categories.
Exactly I think that there should be a World NASCAR Series!!!
I love how that 5.9L v8 makes all the other cars sound like turds even though they surely are not.
sad thing is the new cup cars sound like turds compared to the old crossover pipes era
simply amazing sound i love it
Not everyone is a fan of American V8’s.
@@dmarkj22 then...
im sorry for you mate.
what sound do you prefer?

I just loved how loud, angry and grossly American it sounded. I loved every second of hearing that big, angry V8
As a brit this car made LeMans for me. I had one screen just showing in-car of this beauty and the other the main video and commentary for the whole race bar 3 hours sleep. So hope IMSA run a class for these cars in future series. Sound was just awesome and the whole team were a real credit to USA.they were so professional the factory teams such as Porsche and Ferrari were regular visitors to learn new approaches
Im guessing you paid to see this. Im sure i could have figured it out, but i only find out about this a few days before it was started..
@@ImJustAfunBBQ_r I am a subscriber to World Endurance Championship TV. Was very sad this stream wasn't available in North America for some reason. Love endurance racing due to pit stop strategy being so critical and normally a 3 or 4 hour race. Saying that cannot watch IMSA races live here in Europe!
Where does one stream motorsports like this?

The NextGen platform is basically a GT chassis. If they had used the Gen 6/Xfinity series platform… now THAT would have been impressive and a testament to the skills of the drivers.
The 3rd Nascar to ever participate in Le Mans, and the only one that completed the 24 h event.
One hell of a win for the team.
Of course a Dodge and a Ford couldn’t last 24 hrs. Ole reliable Chevrolet baby! Lol
Edit: it’s just a joke

@pedinhu18 good point...I'll drink to that.. ...let Misha do a lap also
Dude yes, I wish
Or how about Pikes Peak? 😯
this car NEEDS to be in a video game, So we can experience it even if only virtually.
I heard there's a mod being made for Asetto Corsa.
If you are mobile game you are in luck. real racing 3 has nascars racing. check it out.
This thing RIPPED through the corners melting rotors, scared onlookers, kept everyone awake all night long, blasted past Euro cars, and you can own one and drive it in the morning commute. Legend.
Huh? You can't drive one of these on the streets at all
It is a muscle car base under there, and it was performing as powerful as all the LMP cars, purpose built machines just under Formula 1/Indycar machines
It'll set you back less than a Porsche or Ferrari

@@kyonbrace5487 There's fuck all original Camaro in that thing, it's not even close to being NASCAR legal. Appreciate it for what it is, but just stop talking out of your ass.
There were even crowds at the back of the pit garage watching the pit crew doing their gym workout sessions!
That's awesome!!!
@@TheSuperSquad The top factory teams were regular visitors to garage 56 to learn new ways of operating as they were so professional. Have a friend in one of those teams and they couldn't believe how smooth the Hendricks garage operated. For free practice 3 the Chevy didn't go out. Everyone thought there was a problem!! Not in the least, team were so happy with running, set up and lap times on test Sunday plus FP1 and 2 they were changing everything to race spec (including engine) and used free practice 4 to bed everything in!! So cool and assured!!
@@donrobbie1461 NASCAR has pit stops down to a science. People don’t give nascar the credit it deserves. It’s a top tier racing organization in every respect.
@@madpistol can you please explain something... there is a wall between pit crew and car in pit lane. What happens if a car needs extensive work? where does it go and why no pit garage as in Endurance and other racing series in Europe?
@Don Robbie there is a place within pit road where cars can pass to the garages in the back.
This car performed. Even way better than my expectations that had those GTE cars looking slow
its in its own class different restrictions
@@majorpain3293 I know.
Before the garage sessions first to do the pre-planned brake discs and pads change and then the gearbox replacement the lead over the top GTE see sawed as the Chevy was way faster especially when no slow zones or safety car periods but to be that fast took a lot of fuel given the weight and size of the car! At pit stops it took longer to refuel as the GTE cars filled 24 gallon tanks whereas the Nascar had a 32 gallon tank. On the straight Garage 56 entry was almost able to keep up with the LMP2 cars. Everyone was astonished at that!
En regardant certaines images dommage qu elle perde du temps au freinage et dans les virages car elle serait pas loin des lmp2
I watched almost all the race using the Chevy’s in-car footage and in the corners it went round as if on rails. It never had a moment even in the wet and no driver warnings or penalties or got in anyone’s way - ACO (LeMans Organisers) were so surprised how competitive it was!
Thank you… NASCAR, Hendrick, Chevrolet and Goodyear for doing this. Also the drivers, pit crew, engineers and support people.
There were a lot of haters out there but the car silenced them into submission.
Bro, imagine an "American Stock" class for Le Mans or other similar endurance races. Would be a huge leap for an already impressive showing for NASCAR teams. Proud of Hendrick for making this beast make it to the end!!
This would be amazing to see among the field and add to the music that is the race. American V8's excel at screaming down the straights.
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
I'd love an American stock car class.
American cars would be granted a three lap handicap and rights to repair. It would be entertaining for sure.
@@newone-gd9sk Unfortunately they brought a cup tranxaxle to a 24 hr race without enough cooling. You could hear it slowly going the whole time and could tell trans oil was shearing (letting metal touch).
I agree, this car added colour, character & spice to Le Mans. It's great to hear the guttural pushrod V8 (358 ci ?) as a contrast to the sounds of the other cars. We need to see more collaboration like this across the international racing community so that the fans see more variety, contrast and excitement. The technology in these NASCAR engines, especially the Gen 5 (Car of Tomorrow, COT) Cup engines is truly impressive - in unrestricted COT Cup form, I find it hard to fathom 10000 rpm & 1000 bhp for hours on end at wide-open throttle from a pushrod 5.86 litre V8.
Not gonna lie that I've never been the biggest Nascar fan. I'm more of an F1, IndyCar and WEC type of guy. But with seeing 2 of my favorite F1 drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson button racing in Nascar on top of Nascar taking the G56 has been outstanding and I'm tuning in for more Nascar. Glad to see that a Nascar Camaro can not only blow the doors off a 499, but also be the single loudest car on track!
Nascar/Hendricks/Chevy/Goodyear: 10/10
Thank you for the coverage.
P.S. Pit crew was amazing with the OG floor jack.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Hey, with NASCAR, there will be a different champion every year unlike F1.
UK Nascar fan here. Was absolutely rooting for these guys over the weekend. Didn’t put a foot wrong and. Was leading the GTE class in the early hours despite having to make more stops and changing tyres at EVERY STOP. Shame the trans-axel blew and dropped them down the order. Would love to see a Nascar/stock car class at this event going forwards but sadly, looks like it’ll be a one-off. But what a one-off it was!!!
You do realise this car was 5 secs per lap faster than the gte class. None the less loved hearing that engine
@@jastallion45 With a pro team against am teams to be fair...
People just need to enjoy it and ignore there habit to compare and compete.

It wasnt even in the Gt class how can it lead it? It was in its own unregulated class...
@@newone-gd9sk
It showed off and kept up with LMP cars in certain places, unregulated yes, but that's how much a car built up from stock performed against purpose-made racing machines
I love how they had nothing to lose and drove that car so hard it’s a beast
I was @Le Mans even as a fan of Ferrari i have to say... The NASCAR was the 🌟 of this great 24h event/ race. I cheered every lap of Jimmie Johnson, Buton and Rockenfeller! Thanks guys... You put a smile on my face lap by lap...Please come back next year, with 3, 4 or 5 more cars!!! 😉🤗👍❤️👍❤️

you could see the Chevy was almost keeping up with the LMP2 prototype cars. Only the Hypercars were significantly faster
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
Gotta love the 24hr battle scars on the car at the end. The car and team put a lot of NASCAR stereotypes to sleep. Yes, they can turn right, yes, they can drive in the rain, and no, the V8 is not dead and is still all the all-powerful platform we know it is!
If you had to crown one engine as the greatest engine ever it should go to The Chevy LS.
WONT be long till someone drops one in a Bugatti Veyron.
At last! a decent video of the number 24 AND their hell fire pit stops kudos to all concerned especially that guy with the jack...outstanding this team were the only reason i watched this years race(not alone there ) good job to the drivers Jenson,Jimmie and Rocky thanks for bringing a breath of fresh air too!
One window on race coverage, the other on the Garage 56 Onboard. What an incredible, ruthless, rain-smeared, all-drama Centennial Le Mans we got. The way this car brought out everyone's enthusiasm will be impossible to forget. RAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! 🦅🦅🦅🦅
Le Mans needs a stock car class featuring NASCAR vs BTCC vs v8 Supercar. I think this would be a hoot!
As a Brazilian Nascar fan, I was very happy to see this monster racing at Le Mans. I couldn't watch this edition of Le Mans, unfortunately... Seeing this kid running and putting Ferrari in the slipper, awakened in me the desire to see a Brazilian Stock Car participating in this game. A chevrolet cruze with a v8 5.7L, all relieved
If diddnt have drive line issue when car was in 20th place it could finish better but glad it last all 24 hours
Hendricks Motorsport will fix that driveline problem!! 20th place next season TOP 10
@@geraldbeasley except that next year they won't be able to return to the garage56 so I doubt that we will see this car again in 2024 because it is out of category at Le Mans
I would hope they have something in the near future regarding outlines for a similar class, but you're right, probably not.
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
I think this entry proved just how sophisticated NASCAR is.
To be fair this monster had very little in common with a stock NASCAR.
That was never the point. It would have been stupid to simply bring a road course car to Le Mans. Hendrick simply asked, "What could we do with this car?" and then got attention with an impressive result. You have to be sophisticated to make that big a splash. A transaxle change in a half an hour? WOW!
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
@@newone-gd9sk Garage 56 is the "fun" car, they exist to put on a show for the crowd, which it certainly achieved. The innovative car category is held by only a single car, so while it placed 39th overall by the end of the raxe, it wasn't competing against anybody else. I think it's fair they could fix the drivetrain.
@@uberschnilthegreat22 Agreed, i was just commenting on "how it proved just how sophisticated NASCAR is."
Keep in mind, that this is not a NASCAR, but a car inspired by NASCAR. Almost everything on this car is different. Suspension, brakes, wheels & tires. The list goes on. The engine, not constrained by NASCAR rules makes more power and is more durable, while still being detuned by 100hp or so for this race for longevity. The Aero is much different, biased towards down force, not top speed. Jenson Button said ( as seen in the videos ) that car is a torque monster and was crushing the other cars accelerating out of the corners and for the first third of the straights, but the barn door rear spoiler slowed top speed quite a bit. He also mentioned that for as good as the mechanical grip was, the weight of the car hampered braking and cornering.
It also has a carbon chassis.
Everyone thought the car would blast down the straights at over 200 then almost come to a stop in the chicanes.
In the drivers meeting before the race the officials mentioned possibly waving white flags when the car was in corners to warn the other drivers of a slow car ahead. Definitely not the case as they found out during qualifying!
An actual road course NASCAR would not have fared as well in this race.
I hope this type of car gets a class of its own and continues to be developed.
Kudos to Hendrick Racing for fielding such a good car out of the box! And assembling a dream team
Sounds to die for!
Some of the other drivers were moaning that the car was keeping them awake during the night. 😂
2:05 the driver of that Ferrari had to have had his cheeks clenched cause just think your going down the mulsanne straight and see this beast just effortlessly gaining by the second.
NASCAR showed up to Le Mans! Let's bring a full Stock Car class to Le Mans moving forward. It would be unbelievably entertaining!
America has entered the chat 9:07
It's a legitimate option if the WEC wants to experiment with a new class. The formula clearly works.
Replace P2 with Cup Cars, they’re prob much cheaper to run down the line.
@@mvalerio7395 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't LMP2 already gone as of next year?
@@infidel1993 but they will race at LeMans maybe not in WEC
At the 1:22 mark, I spit water all over my table because the sound differences in the engines. That car sounded like a toy car 😂😂
Was so fun seeing the G56 car out there getting in some solid racing
There is more than one way to race! Badass Chevy Camaro! SacreBlue! And most importantly, Garage56 racing team finished! There were 21 or so dnf's.
Apart from stopping for pre-planned brake discs and pads change plus then need to replace the gearbox the car ran faultlessly it seems. Fascinating to watch the battle against the top GTE cars! Chevy easily faster on track but, due to weight and less aerodynamic used a lot more fuel. Same no of laps between refuelling as GTE but a 32 gallon tank compared to 24 gallon capacity of GTE so pit stops for just fuel were longer by quite a few seconds.
This brings back the days when a push rod square plane crank V8 dominated the track. Long Live this beast of a engine. Long live American motorsports and the V8!
Bigred camero should be the pace car someday.
Did anyone else lose control of their blood pressure watching the pit stops? Glad to see that beast out there!
if not for a gearbox failure and a long brake change, this car would have annihilated the entire GTE field. I wonder what six or seven gears in this beast would do.
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
Man those downshifts after the straight send shivers down my spine every single time.
The paddle shifter seems like a keeper. That one shot of the Camaro leaving the pit and drifting through the pilons was memorable. Great driving.
They need to do that, let nascar guys have some of the tech other series have, bigger tires carbon fiber let it rip, make the cars more exciting
I'm surprised the transaxle lasted as long as it did. They were hammering those curbs like no tomorrow.
Yeah, if they do this again and can somehow reinforce it, that things gonna be even better
You know all of the other car companies were laughing their asses off when they saw a nascar vehicle roll up to the starting grid. But I'm willing to bet by lap 5 or 6, they weren't laughing any more 😎🇺🇲
Why would they give a shit about a car with no class restrictions competing against literally nobody 😂😂😂

Blows me away how so little was expected of the Camaro by endurance racing community, and in all honesty - rightfully so, only to see those dropped jaws & rising expectations throughout the week and especially during the race. Garage 56 wasn’t included in much of the broadcast running order graphics, but she surely did climb up the timing charts. Other than changing the brakes out & a gearbox issue, in the end the Camaro likely would’ve outpaced perhaps the entire GT field. And that is impressive anyway you look at it.

Watching Garage 56 perform was great. I read a lot of folks comparing to GT cars . Need to remember a GTE race car starts with a production vehicle. Garage 56 starts as a clean spot on the garage floor. Tube space frame, 200+ more hp than rules allow for GTE.
Yeah, I don't get the comparison. Sure, it's fun to see this thing blow by the GTEs but like you said it's a completely different class of car. Fanboys gonna fanboy I guess.
@@sntslilhlpr6601 The thing is that it's a NASCAR base, so that chassis is extremely heavy, especially compared to something like the Porsche. Yes, it's a tube frame, but it's an extremely thick steel tube frame that's hilarious overkill compared to a GTE car. There's a reason why the car still weighed over 2,900 pounds after they ripped all the weight out, even after they removed the bump draft reinforcements, and it's that steel tubing. A car that used a base Camaro would probably actually be lighter, purely down to the fact that it's made out of aluminum.
@@sntslilhlpr6601 Horsepower isn't the be all, end all of racing. The NASCAR was heavier and had less downforce than the GTEs which would slow it down over the GTE. The additional HP helped overcome that for G56. So no, not really fanboying. But yes, this car was not competing in the GTE class. If you want a stock car to actually compete in GTE then you'd have to swap all the steel with aluminum or other lighter materials.

Being a European I'm a firm patriot of the race cars of our continent, that being said 👏👏👏👏👏👏 congratulations to the team because this is a great success story and I can't help feeling that had it not had the gearbox issues this could have been up there fighting for a top 5 or higher position.

I’ve been to Lemans the year that the Nissan delta wing was to run and saw it in practice before it was damaged. It was the most exciting thing to happen at Lemans since the Ford GTs. And now the Camaro! What immediately caught my attention was the difference in how a prototype car passes a GTE car and how it passes the Camaro. The LMP cars come out of a turn and immediately rocket past the GTE cars but they had to work to get past the Camaro. The process took time. The Camaro took Lemans by storm! And that sound! The Camaro provided the best Lemans show for spectators and the GT drivers (as they got to watch it through their windshields) in years!

I like how there were all these cars that are streamlined and have good aero, and then there is bronk with horsepower for days passing them.
Wish FIA would post highlights of this but they didn't, what a great accomplishment from the team! Can't wait to see what NASCAR does in the future!
Think there was a film crew there for Hendricks/NASCAR/Goodyear so will get some good footage soon!
To see this car ripping around was great but not in tv. When they talked about it was very little sometimes u saw it but it was all hypercars all the time.
Because this car was not part of class races. Hence the focus on hyper car, lmp2 and GTE
True American hero 🇺🇸
They were in their own unregulated class plus they broke down and were allowed to change the drivetrain, which isnt allowed for anyone else...
@@newone-gd9sk It doesn't matter. They raced and passed many "faster" cars like they were standing still.
@@AutobahnVault Wait, are you too dumb to know what unregulated means? Yikes you guys are slow af
Excellent collection of views of the Camero 24! Thanks SuperSquad for putting all of these together. Really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Put an adjustable wing on the camero and look out. Just need to lighten car more to improve braking.
Dad built cars for Holman and Moody.
I wish that we'd been able to see this together.
The look on his face would have been priceless.
Man I love Nascar❤❤ nothing like a roaring, angry, powerfull and LOUD V8 rushing down the racetrack!!!
It was an impressive showing for NASCAR, Goodyear and Hendrick Motorsports. I've been looking forward to this for over a year and was definitely not disappointed.
American muscle at its finest!
Watching this low tech beast chase down and pass some of the most sophisticated and high tech race cars in the world was immensely satisfying.
I can only laugh at what the other drivers must have been thinking every time that howling beast went around them and left them in it's wake.

@@newone-gd9sk how many times are you gonna copy and paste that comment lmao
@@theshoebilling I guess many times, considering how many dummies do not comprehend that... yet im not wrong am i?Great reply though haha
@@newone-gd9sk i mean ur not wrong as it WAS in its own class, but surely it still means something that it performed better than a lot of cars in another category
@@theshoebilling No, thats literally the point of regulations, do you need the definition of the word?
This...this right here...this is what I wish Stock Cars were used for. Oval racing is alright, but this is so much better.
Barely got any TV coverage or was never talked about by the announcers
Yeah it was like a quick mention every couple hours or something like that 😭😂
That's true I tune in and not a zit I think there gona be in for a treat soon
@@stephen28418 I happened to be watching while the announcers were talking about getting sleep overnight. One of them said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "People were trying to get some sleep overnight, and every now and then the NASCAR Camaro alarm clock would go past and wake them up."
managed to finish on its le mans debut is quite impressive on its own even if it had issues down the line, and also I love how corvette racing team managed to win gte class with only one car roster
That gearbox whine tho, I love it, reminds me of the BMW m3 GTR
I just love how it sounds when it's passing by I mean you just know it's coming
I could listen to this all day
Insane race footage !! ❤❤
Bruh the whole video I couldn’t hear anything except for RAGHHHHH 🦅🇺🇸🔥
All I really know is that if you see a ZL1 badge in real life, you're only going to be seeing it on the rear bumper
I just kept saying "wow" the whole time I was watching this. That sound! What a car! Thanks for the footage!
Glad you enjoyed it!
