It's like thinking a DVD player can play Blu-Rays, and while I'm sure there are some people out there who would think so, my boomer aged parents understood the difference. Even tho my love for anime 99% died as i grew older, the voice acting on that last game was great. Cant say it would keep me playing all the way through, tho.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the voice acting was. I was expecting something akin to megaman 8 cutscenes

Beyond Oasis (Story of Thor here) is far more than a mere Zelda clone and is absolutely worth a full playthrough. One of the best games on the system.

Landstalker's got a slow start, and the controls take time to get used to, but it's really good. It has amazing music and a great sense of adventure once it gets going. Highly recommend it if you're into older games.

The game that got a remake on Switch was Wonder Boy III The Dragon’s Trap
The game chat said was a spiritual successor, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is in fact a canon part of the series directed by I believe one of the original directors
That said I really hope Vinny plays Wonder Boy The Dragon’s Trap or Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom at some point, preferably the latter. Amazing games.
On another note, it kinda hurts how he’s always talking about and playing Zelda clones yet, to my knowledge, has never even mentioned Ittle Dew or Ittle Dew 2. Which is a shame since Ittle Dew 2 is my favourite game at the moment

Vinny tearing Rayearth a new one really hurt to watch since Rayearth was my favorite manga when I was a kid.
I've never played the game, but I know it has the same voice actors and localization team as Lunar, so double ouch. :(

hey by the way, you know, I'm legally not allowed to complain, I read manga exactly like this series literally every single day
I mean Vin was like 5 minutes before gameplay actually starts. The rest of the cutscenes are significantly shorter and gameplay is super fun. There's even a mech shooter segment because rayearth had cool mechs.

Crusader of Centy is one of my favourite games on the system. Landstalker was hard as bejeezus. This is probably my favourite vine video to date. Thanks binyot.

I love Rayearth and that game reminded me of Lunar Silver Star Story with all the anime cutscenes.
That cinematic intro in Magic Knight Rayearth IS OVER TWENTY MINUTES LONG.

I like Rayearth but wow I forgot how long the intro took, jeez. Even as a fan of Rayearth the story was not adapted into the game former at all.
I really enjoyed this vod a lot more for what it is than what Vinny/Person who sent it wanted it to be. Reminds me that (almost) every metroidvania developed after 2004 is “a Cave Story clone”(to a lot of shitty people). Maybe im just naturally salty.

3D Dot Game Heroes is the best Zelda clone since it has a fuckhuge sword but it's not OP since you need to be at max health to use it properly, also the quests, dungeons and towns were great.
Binyot pls play Beyond Oasis (Story of Thor) and Crusader of Centy (Soleil). They are both great action adventure games. Specially Beyond Oasis, it has a lot of content and even a sequel on the Saturn!

The localized version of Mother 3 is looking good.
Wonderboy in Monsterland was good, but even back in the day I think it's fair to say it was quite salty. If I'm not mistaken it was originally an arcade game, which would explain why it was so difficult.
Crusader of Centy is awesome. It's basically LttP mixed with Soul Blazer. It deviates from both as the game goes on as the superpowers revolve around harnessing the magical powers of animals and nature. (For instance, the hare standing next to that lake with rocks signifies that you get jumping powers from rabbittos.)

ANYWAY, man this series sure got around. I remember it having a rpg game, so hearing (since we didn't see it) that it had a zelda ish game is pretty cool. The presentation of it trying to feel like watching the anime is nice too and even english dubbing?! WHAT! Just hit with so many good memories from the series, i mean sure Vinny didn't give a shit but whatever I DID!

Man, that Rayearth game does have way too many cutscenes. It's always funny when Vinny is told to play an anime game though when he doesn't watch any. Rayearth is pretty good (having only read the manga) but the way it's presented in the game is definitely something that would scare off someone that doesn't watch anime. It basically being an anime told through fmv and video game text with no gameplay doesn't help.
The long cutscenes are mainly in the first 30 minutes of the game as exposition. It is based off of a manga/anime. The rest is mostly gameplay.

@@niceroundtv It has gameplay though, and its not a VN, its an action RPG. Vin turned the game off like 5 minutes before the gameplay starts. A lot of the later cutscenes are pretty short.

God damn the Oasis games were good.
I must have played them for a 100 hours over the years, would highly recommend both, though the second one is harder to get a hold of and difficult to emulate as it was a Saturn game.

I hope Vinny does a collection in the future called "Mana-Clones" I played a game called Terranigma recently that's similar and noted there are dozens of games for the SNES and GBA/DS that follow along this line
Terranigma is part of a series. Play Illusion of Gaia. It's a SNES Zelda clone that Nintendo tried to market as a Zelda clone.

Terranigma is incredible, even with it's flaws like the magic system. I've never played a game with better plot twists or an ending that great (well, besides mother 3) 2nd Best soundtrack on the entire system.
Soul blazer came before Illusion of Gaia by the way. Quintet was an interesting company.
Chaos seed kind of plays like a mana game I guess, the progression is nothing like it, but the way you attack and cast spells is similar, it's also another incredible snes game, nothing else like it.

Landstalker is my favorite game of all time. Beyond Oasis is fucking sweet too. Also have a lot of nostalgia for Crusader of Centy.
Hearing that Vinny didn't bother finishing Golden Sun broke my heart, GS1 and 2 are two of my favorite games of all time. Hope he gives them another chance, maybe even stream them some day.

Vinny I dunno if you read the YT comments, but the Ocarina of Time randomizer have more fast and better settings, like just needing the Spirit and Shadow medallion to open Ganon Castle, or even you already own the boss keys, which sometimes can cut a big chunck out of Dungeons.

Centy looks amazing, but the game gets tedious near the end and the bosses aren't great. Still has some cool dungeons and levels and good level design, throwing your sword around is cool.
The same devs made Ranger X, and that's WAY better.
Golvellius and Zelda 2 came out in the same year, and I can't find out what month Golvellius came out in but Zelda 2 is from January

It's a Compile game (the Puyo dev) they put Puyo cameos in most of their games, in every space shooter they made it's a secret powerup or extra life.
No, that's Mokona from pretty much every Clamp manga/anime. The resemblance to the Puyo character is coincidental. Also, this was developed by Sega in house, not Compile.

Though I'll admit, the voice acting wasn't half bad, certainly better than it has any right to be.
Its based off of a pretty influential anime of the shoujo genre. Some of these tropes were started here. Its a great game and a great series.
