  • Carhartt X is the new line from the legendary workwear brand, finally bringing heated gear to their lineup. Plenty of other companies have offered heated work gear, but Carhartt uses a form of AI to adjust the heat level according to your activity level.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

Sounds like an interesting vest that could work for some people. I love when things are made in USA. It brings a smile 😊. But if it's not made in USA sometimes I'll buy it anyways depending on what it is. I don't get bent out of shape where the thing is made. I am not a big supporter of things made in China if I can help it, but that's kind of hard these days. Sometimes I have no option. I like to look for quality products from quality companies is a little more important than where it is made to me.

Great review & solid bit of kit, but could really benefit from USB power support. This would open up so many more applications (e.g plugged in motorcycling, camping, hiking, etc).

Hi, we could have used a USB connector but it does not supply enough power if you want to boost the heat to max. However, we are digging into USB-C DP standard. Thanks for suggesting!

    • @clim8tech

Hi jtdwp, yes you can, it really depends on your needs. If you have a top layer, it will limit the heating of the jacket and therefore preserve the battery :)

I have the same Milwaukee jacket in black that I received from my old electrical company. It was a nice gesture but I found it quite restricting to work in. I will admit though, it did block the rain & wind pretty good, so it worked great for that when I was out in the bucket truck changing pole heads or replacing pole ballasts. I am no longer with that company so I recently gave it to my oldest son.
I am no longer in the field but I did pick up a heated vest from Ororo as I tend to be getting more sensitive to the cold as I get older, especially my back. I tend to wear vests a lot as I commute 1.5hrs to the office 3 days/wk and don’t like driving in a big bulky coat. The Ororo is definitely not work wear. The seller for me on the vest was that the neck warms which is nice but overall it’s ok. The battery sits on the side of your hip which stands out & looks lopsided. The heat zone on the back is the upper back & I’d prefer the lower half. Finally the fit is a bit odd. The cut looks like it’s made for people with beer guts (no offense) but doesn’t have a cinch. It fits normal through the chest & shoulder but flares out in the lower half a bit. It’s ok, but I think I would’ve rather looked at other alternatives.
As for the Carhartt, I do like the temp regulating as I often move from the office area, to our prefab shop, to the outdoors & back often throughout the day. But I’m not crazy about the two toned look & it doesn’t look like it offers much for warmth without the heat on.

The milwaukee heated under shirts are WAY better than the jacket. It’s right on your skin or over thermals and the battery is significantly smaller and sits near left front waistline. You can’t control the heat but Acme tools has them for 99 bucks for the kit which includes 2 batteries. There’s other no name brand versions as well. Heated gear is good for exactly what you said getting the chill out before you start or if you’re outside but not moving a lot.

Sounds interesting. Never owned a heated clothing item. I wish the battery was more universal. It should charge via USB and the battery should connect to the vest via USB. The dedicated charger is a weak link. I almost always carry a USB battery bank anyway. Thanks for the video.

People who own little Made in America goods really like to throw fits over it. I remember seeing a discussion about GoRuck changing to foreign manufacture at one point and bunch of people saying that their current USA made stuff was actually lower quality finish than the stuff made in Vietnam. I like to support local companies as much as possible, or USA made stuff when I can, but I've been focusing more on company ethics over place of manufacture. Big reason I love Patagonia's stuff so much.
