  • We explore Sarah's summertime paradise from her childhood, driving through the redwoods and mountains, walking along the black sand beaches, and waking to the sound of the sea.

    My mother took me to shelter cove often to visit her friends. I remember the beach vividly. I want to go back now that my mom is gone maybe she will meet me there from heaven.

    I used to go surfing there with my buddy in the 1970's. No other surfers there but us.

      I used to see a few surfers at the far end of the cove on some days, but there were never very many. Maybe you were one of them. :)

    What a beautiful place Shelter Cove really is! I am lucky to call it home! So cool you were able to get to the tide pools during that low tide!

    Nice video. Thank you. What was the bug situation like when you were there... in terms of hiking along the beach or interior areas? Any idea what it would be like this month (August) if traveling there? Thanks for your feedback.

    • @globalgeezers7785
      @globalgeezers7785  Před 4 lety

      Thanks. There were no bugs when we were there in March. In August, there are more bugs in forest or plant-rich areas, but Sarah never experienced a bad bug issue during her summers there. If we were going to hike in that area, Sarah would definitely use repellent, because she is a mosquito delicacy. Lol!

    Hi…such a beautiful place. Is the community diverse?

    • @globalgeezers7785
      @globalgeezers7785  Před rokem +1

      It's a pretty small community, so while there are a few things to do, I wouldn't call it diverse.

      It's more diverse now than when Sarah was a kid, but that's still not a lot. 🤷‍♀️ If you're considering going there, we would encourage you to be your own judge, since we all have different perspectives. There are some amazing and kind folks out there!😌

    Is it true that the roads to get to shelter cove can get dangerous because they are very steep?

    • @globalgeezers7785
      @globalgeezers7785  Před 4 lety +4

      You must drive over the mountain range to get there, so there are steep and narrow areas. I wouldn't call it dangerous unless you're going over the mountains when it's iced over, or if you don't give the winding road the respect it deserves. :)

    Be careful driving there in an older car or RV, the road is extremely steep and cars and RVs frequently burn out their breaks, but I'm sure you know that if you grew up there.
