We are sad to announce the recent passing of Glenn A. Tierney, who just turned 99. Thank you for watching this video and helping keep his memory alive.
Thank you Ryan! Glenn is a great guy. The ultimate icing on the cake was he sent us a note this morning and was very happy with the video. More to come. : )
I remember all these stories from my childhood...you see Glenn A Tierney is my Step-father! He is going to be 99 this summer! He a legend from the Greatest Generation. I have flown most of the planes he has flown on War Thunder, nothing compared to what he experienced.
Thanks for chiming in. Small world, isn't it? After we were done, he had a few more amazing stories he recalled, but that will have to be another day. : )
A true American hero! Happy you got to know him and share time with him. You are fortunate! Hope his passing didn't cause you and his family too much pain!
We owe them so much. It doesn’t feel like enough to say, “I am grateful for his service.” He leaves an Ivy League scholarship and possible scholarship to Annapolis and says, “A perfectly good war going on” and at 18 he wanted to play his part. It is fascinating to hear him. Truly the Greatest Generation.
Heck of a story. The pressure suit incident alone is incredible. Glad that Mr. Tierney was able to tell his story here. Thanks for sending me here, Greg.
What an incredible life and interesting career this Man made for himself. 26:50 Almost a coincidence? I was just yesterday reading the Wikipedia article on HVAR rockets, how they were also used for heat-seeker missile targets. Firing the WWII era HVAR 5" rocket, then acquiring the target lock on its exhaust flame, which was enhanced for this purpose, and firing a sidewinder. Interesting details. Btw: Greg sent Me here. His channel is the best, yours is shaping up to be a classic too. Keep it up!
JJ, thanks for sharing. We appreciate your kind remarks. While we don't have Greg's insane knowledge, we figured one of the ways we can meaningfully contribute is to give then men who were there a chance to tell the stories themselves. : ) We have already recorded seven more interviews and are excited to release them in 2023.
@@flightlinemedia too bad the one I would love to hear from the most passed away when I was a kid. Member of the 303 polish squadron during the battle of Britain and was my neighbor growing up until he passed. Never got to hear any of his stories.
@@everydaycarrycanada951 If you have anyone you know of whom we should record, please send us an email at info@flightlinemedia. co (not .com). We have camera operators around the world.
@@flightlinemedia there is one that I know but not sure if he passed or not. His name is Stuart B. From Alliston Ontario Canada. All the others I can think have passed away unfortunately.
Visiting from Greg's Airplanes & Automobiles. A fascinating memoir, and Glenn is a wonderful raconteur. Marvellous stories, especially his mishaps at high altitude, which he makes sound amusing, but which were only seconds away from being mortal. What an adventurous spirit. Thanks for posting.
I guess I’m the only one here NOT because of Greg, I just saw a “short” about this man Glenn, when I heard how incredibly long his Navy career was I had to search YT for the full story.

When Glenn says you are worth watching, you must be good.
You are. Good clear explanations and worth watching again.
:D
Amazing stories! I bet he fought hard to make that 99th B-day! Tailwinds Sir!! Thanks for one of the best pilot videos I've ever watched.

You're very welcome. We have already recorded seven more interviews and look forward to getting them out 2023.
This man is a absolute legend. In less than a quarter of this video I learned a lot about the sidewinder and carriers.
We felt the same. It was an honor meeting him in person. We have many, many more to come.

Who is Greg?
A friend of ours. His CZcams Channel is Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles. He kindly recommended this video to his subscribers.
If I said that to my dad he would have sank the boat with me in it.
Interesting...
Narcissistic
