t was a magical period when music was amazing and every genre was represented .The Roxy ,The Whiskey,The The Troubadour. Were the places to be. All the best concerts of acts in their prime .The funk festival at The Coliseum and Long Beach Arena and Dating a very prominent club promoter at 18 got me into a lot of clubs and after hour parties. And backstage at concerts .And front row tickets to concerts .The 70's is my favorite decade .
she was very young...they were all young. And they weren't polished. But the guys had been around already...a few times. And even tho' she hadn't been to the "finishing school" at Motown, so to speak...they all knew this VOICE, was going to take them to a stratosphere they never thought they'd see. Chaka is one of the premier voices of our time...a once in a lifetime voice, just as impactful as Aretha, Gladys, Dionne, Whitney or Patti.
What do u mean polished? Black groups didn't have to be,as a matter fact neither did the white groups back then had to be either, they had REAL TALENT ..
Your backhanded compliment is not only wrong about being polished but has nothing to do with her abilities or the the abilities of the band. Motown had "polished" singers that we drunks, adulterers, drug users and abusive. Even Barry Gordy was a misogynistic, evil, maniacal, swindling, extortionist and philandering adulterer.
Plus OG lineup Rufus was a Very Special Band-The, “Rags To Rufus” record was OUTTA SIGHT as hip folks back in the day used to say...and speaking of What Is Hip(?), can you imagine how extremely KICK ASS it would’ve been to go to the Fillmore and see a double-bill in ‘73-“74 of Tower OF Power & Rufus?

When I bought this album back in 74 my friends looking at the cover and said what kinda band is this ? One listen I was hooked. Took some people longer but she still killing it to this day !!
It is called legendary and classic, songs have meanings and the meanings are still the same in any generation!!!, can't say the same about today's artists!!! I can't remember any of their songs, well with the exception of Beyonce and Destiny's child...
@@robertarnold9676 That's Kevin Murphy. There was never any band member named Rufus. Murphy is the longest tenured (and I believe) only original member left of Rufus. Chaka Khan was not an original member but she got there for this album
As always it's the guitar which gets me off. Just like I remember it. The whole deal actually. Love funk. Shame the action on the video doesn't match the original soundtrack which is what I'm hearing.
This woman is the meaning of wat talent having a gift from god and wat real music is her singing always bring chills and good memories of good old days
Always had crush on this lady as a kid. She's 67 I'm 59 I still want her.
She sings effortlessly. She could go from a low octave to her highest register without straining.

I was a little kid but so glad I was around to witness the 70’s
So glad I was a part of it. 70's 80's and half of the 90's.... there was nothing like it.
I agree❤
Chaka has always been a monster 😊 she killed this song
Started school in 1970. The 70s was the most incredible decade I've lived in.
This is one bad *ss nasty funk rock song!
Rufus brought the funk, the groove, the rock, they had it all and gave it to us.

Tony Maiden. Funkiest beat I've ever heard.
