@Pipa Obala Yes, there was another scene in season 3, My Clean Break, where Dr. Cox was teaching a class - including JD, Turk, Elliot,Todd, and Doug - how to use a new defibrillator, and they weren't paying any attention. He went off on a great, justified, quiet rant on how they had no business being doctors if they weren't interested in learning how to keep a patient alive.
If I remember right, this episode aired about 8 months after two America West Airlines Pilots were arrested for trying to fly a plane while drunk.I always loved it when they added jabs about real-world events.
Well he may not have admitted it, but he definitely believed JD was better than coming to work drunk. That it was something that JD would never do. And while he also would never admit it, he actually respected Turk as a surgeon and thought he was one of the most talented and capable surgeons they had on staff. So he was disappointed in them and he had every right to send them home in this case. You shouldn't ever allow a doctor that is performing medical services on you to come in drunk. Especially not a surgeon who might have to spend 12-16 hours at least on a tough surgery. Can't exactly do that when you're drunk and then nursing a raging hangover. It was irresponsible to come in drunk. It was irresponsible to go out drinking, knowing they could go back on call. They wanted to blame their friend for taking them out but as their friend correctly stated, they're the ones that chose to go out. They could've said no. They all but begged to be taken out. He wasn't the one that put the glass of alcohol in their hands either.
Probably the only time one Dr. Cox's rants weren't demeaning. Really, who wants to be treated by drunk doctors, or flown by drunk pilots? LOL on "You're not pilots"
"Who wants to be...?" Obviously no one, but I'm not sure we're asking the central question here! Both fields are listed in the Top10 "professions leading up to addiction + burn out" list. Horrible work life balance (especially sleep deprivation due to insanely long shifts), constant absence from home/family, huge responsibility over the lives of others, restlessness + unpredictability of your day at work, underpayment for the first years... and not nearly enough mandatory psychological checkups to cope with it all. Drug addiction is the bigger phenomenon among hospital staff, if I remember correctly, anyhow alcohol addiction among flight attendants is like an open secret in the branche. ... To be clear, I loved Cox's dark joke, too, but the question bothering me is, how can so many civilized, first-world societies keep tolerating the broken system such essential people have to work in?
Dr Cox proving why a mentor is respected. He isn`t just nice to you for the sake of being nice, you earn his respect and when you disrespect him,he lets you know you have let him down. I have been lucky enough to have older people showing me the ropes when I was young and it is one of lifes lessons if you want to succeed, not just in your job, but as a human being. The good people never make mistakes, they make mistakes, but they learn from them.
@@oz_jones It may not have been his first kills, but those 3 were deaths that he caused in his desperate rush to put organs in them. He didn't know they infected with rabies and he had to hurry because at least two of those patients could die in hours without them. So all of that took a huge toll on him.
That's perhaps one of the few times when Dr. Cox was very serious. Usually, he'd be sarcastic, but here he's clearly pissed off...

"you're not airline pilots" LMAO

“Do, do I smell sobriety? You guys are airline pilots, not doctors!!”
Captain Cox to the co-pilot and flight engineer.
He's sure pissed but I hear alot of disappointment as well.

I saw the title of this video, and only 1 thought came to me: you'll have to be more specific!
This was before Cox came to work drunk himself. Which shows exactly how low he was in that moment.
Probably the only time one Dr. Cox's rants weren't demeaning. Really, who wants to be treated by drunk doctors, or flown by drunk pilots?

This situation might have reminded Cox of his dad. Maybe that's why he wasn't sarcastic when he was yelling at them
Dr. Cox is the new Red from That 70's Show

He channeled a touch of Red Foreman there. Nice!
One of the few times his yelling was warranted
Newsflash, you can't drink and then come to work. You're not airline pilots
lol
Ouch. That's a sick third-degree that JD and Turk just got.
almost uploaden 10 years ago, time flies when you're having fun
haha am I the only one who though of that 70's show when he said that?
hahahaha Jordan! xD
just knows how to rub it in
funyn thing that he breaks his own rules later... :)
It was kind of a different situation, though
@@pandakatiefominz yeah having you're first kill and it was 3 at once kinda wrecks a guy's psyche, especially his ego
@@Cardlimits yeah no, not his first kills

That's the most dissapointed I've ever heard him
hahahaha airline pilots XD
Great acting wow
Was this before or after Cox himself came to drunk work?
Before
Your not airline pilots this is a gif I can’t remember where I saw it.
... Cox to J.D. five years later: _"Morninnnn J.D., can ya give me a problem, I got a littttle hand here!"_
Is it me or did it seem like it didnt quite hit Turk as hard as it JD. Turk seem to have more more of a eh look about it.
that's because JD idolizes Dr. Cox. Turk just tolerates him and shows him enough respect in the situation because Perry is the senior personnel.
@ringmaster316ms
Dam you were right
0:26
He stole Red his line !
Lol. Nur auf Englisch, aber muss reichen. @Alessa
Can't you get your license revoked for something like that?
Yes
Man! that is the meanest i seen of Dr Cox
@csguden nope
red ftw :P
