    U never see much bus engine bays like this amazing job and I do wonder if other bus collectors do this to their engine bays? I like the Atlanteans I like to see in the grills and the belts are moving around.

    Brilliant job love the old Atlanteans, be nice to see some of MVK538R and its progress. I believe your group has it currently. I used to travel to school on it back in the 90s, when I was 15 I had an old car at Boons yard (who ran it then) and hence spent a lot of time there asking questions and looking over the old deckers. Mr Boon had nothing but Atlanteans as deckers and I must confess its put them in my heart. I come from a trucks background and own 2 old ERFs but cannot completely rule out getting involved in an Atlantean one day. Quite literally a lovely old bus!

    Beautiful job! It still amazes me how Leyland managed to cram that engine into such a small space and yet still make everything serviceable. That tick over sounds perfect, to me the 0.680 and the TL11 are still the best sounding naturally aspirated diesels ever built. It’s always baffled me though how that gearbox couples to the rear axle, some kind of off center drive shaft to the diff must be involved.

      Except the TL was turbo charged.

      @@ianpegge9967 yeah but I thought the TL11 was based on the 0.680?

    • @ianpegge9967
      @ianpegge9967 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Atlantean1980 yes it was. Basically a lightly turbocharged version.

    • @d3b536
      @d3b536 Před 3 lety +1

      TL11 is identical and interchangeable with the 0.680 block (based on the DAF MB1100 if memory serves) and often found in place of a 680 block in later years, never seen a turbo Atlantean though (even though you probably could in theory if TL11 based). You could only tell the difference between the blocks externally by a deep notch in the casting near the heads in the middle but internally was heavier duty, more rigid with larger 5/8" head studs and straight liners (as opposed to flanged on the 680). TL11 was designed to be the core of the turbo charged Tiger 218/245/260 bhp coach engines, but quite often found in normally aspirated form in Atlanteans, National Mk2 and Leopards and others, Lynx etc not to mention some Trains.

    A good job that the paint just came off with a powerwash. I'm guessing the engine bay was painted many years ago.
