Didn’t understand a word at that time but that was and is still amazing and makes me smile and I tell everybody here in Germany how cool racing in the US is.

    • @JViello
      @JViello Před 2 lety +15

Nope, words don't work. Loud definitely doesn't do it. LOL It's like the atmosphere and time itself is being compressed as soon at the lights go green and they blast down the track. It's hard to breath in the stands!
My favorite is when they are in the pits running the engine with the wheels in the air and just BLIP the throttle. It's like artillery going off! "mmmmmm *BRAAAAP!* bupbupmmmmmm" as people and crowd literally jump 3-4 feet away like a wind blast on tall grass. LOL

    Incredible video guys.
As a German drag racing fan I have one question I noticed on the NitrolympX here in Germany and in some videos from all over the world.
In the past when they rebuild the top fuelers they did one or two throttle hits. If I'm informed correctly they did it to settle the clutch.
But some years ago they did stop doing this.
Why did they stop? It was so great when the nitro hammer smashed right into your face.
Hope someone can answer my question.
Happy new year to all & cheers.

From what I’ve seen it’s not really needed for the clutch anymore. But Scott Palmers team still does every race for the fans

Probably new tech where either they don't have to bed it, or maybe it's pre-bedded before they get their hands on it, these engines run right on the edge and these engines can grenade themselves literally on startup.

I sat front row at the staring line for top fuel once. I heard the roar for a split second,
and after that I stopped hearing the sound and I could only feel the vibrations on my forehead. It was awesome.

19:00 I've felt the pressure wave hit you in the chest from top fuel, can you imagine what 180db SPL vehicles are like? 😆

I love NHRA top fuel. I go to spring nationals here in Houston every year, and watching and hearing those cars in person never gets old. Cool video.

I actually had the chance to meet John Force and his daughters when they were doing the races in Phoenix, AZ. It was very odd when I got a picture with him, he was super out of it and not paying attention at all. Great to get to meet a legend of these races.

Everyone needs to go to a NHRA event once in their lifetime at least......the sound and speed is something you cannot experience anywhere else in the world. Especially the sound.. ....if you can get close to the starting line it's quite insane.

The noise is crazy but what's even more crazy is your whole body shakes as well as the ground. Literally the ground shakes. An experience that must be had at least once in your life.

i used to live within walking distance of Zmax in Charlotte. the sounds of cars going 300+ mph all day and into the night was amazing. i also obviously spent a lot of time at the track since i worked for a chevy dealership and got free tickets to all the races!

Great to see the Great White Sharks allow the Tuna access to the behind the scenes. As for the NHRA bringing you on board the grassroots that you cover is the future of pro class with guys like Jackstand Jimmy deserving a chance in a big boy toy. Hopefully will start seeing 1320 stickers like those CycleDrag has on many pro classes. We often forget companies like Edelbrock and Holley made this sport what it is and even though those parts might not be Top Fuel spec but I bet there's a street car running a Pro Stock engine at the local meet.

My first pro race was the mopar mile high Nats in Denver back on 06. Ron Capps drove for brute cologne and the crew guys yelled "who wants a free cologne sample?" And they proceeded to pour a bottle in every header pipe before warmup. I was a fan for life after that lol

A fun little snippit on that PT cruiser. It is owned and operated by a lad who goes by "Nitro Mike". Great guy. It is powered by a blown mopar 440 and has a propane system rigged into the exhaust to produce the flames. He also holds the world record for the longest wheelie over 100mph. If I remember correctly it was over a mile. The golf cart that is used to pull it to and from the lanes also has a 440 in it and has a 1-off fiberglass PT cruiser body as well.
