He dresses down to make you think he's a poor sap, but at 45 pairs a day at five dollars a pair, this dude is bringing the doe home. 45pairs x 5dollars=225dollars x 365days=$82,125.00 This guy made it. No boss, no employees, gets to dress like a homeless person and pockets nearly all the profit. He's been doing this for over two decades and had 25% more customers prior to the economic down turn. This guy is a closet millionaire who enjoys fucking with the minds of all the sheep who think their fooling everyone with their Armani and base level Rolex. This man is a genius and is living the good life. Shoe shine man= real ass nigga

You are assuming he works EVERY day of the year. Even if he did, making 80k a year and living in NYC is faaarrr from a closet millionaire. He has kids too.. I completely believe him when he says he has nothing in the bank and lives modestly. I doubt he 'dresses down' for his day at work.

Wow you think he wouldn´t earn so much as a shoe shine man but 60 customers per day and at least $5 per customer thats $300, it´s almost the double of what I earn per day as a car mechanic before income tax. If he is down at 30 in rough times then it is about as much as I earn before income tax. I should change business :)

      You don't know.
First off, he loves what he does.
Second, he's in N.Y. you don't think that he doesn't run into people who could give him advice on how to invest his money. To set himself up for when he is older.
Or maybe someone takes a liking to his personality and offers him a acting role or commercials.
Once again, he's in N.Y. in Manhattan of all places.

Bingo. You're thinking opportunity costs and delayed rewards. You will be successful because of that. I applaud the guy for his entrepreneurship, but you've gotta think about benefits. Also, his job has a growth ceiling and he's met it. Experience working for a company will allow you upward mobility.

Genius salesman, but who pays to shine their shoes? I guess in NYC $5-$20 is like $1-4 because of the cost of living? Am I the only one too cheap to pay someone for that? Just buy matte shoes that don’t need to be shined.
