This is one of those times when Evelyn is being supportive and she actually did a very good job at it. If only she's being supportive for her sons.
She was supportive… but with a son who don’t even go to medical school and only quiropráctic and another who only drink and don’t study at all. What she can do? One cannot only blame the parents.

With no respect to Judith years with her and Jake is just a disappointment. Barely any time with Evelyn and Jake is shown to have something he is passionate about... Or at least can do with minimal prodding.

Something tells me Evelyn was just as supportive of her sons as she just showed us with her grandson, but you also get to see that being self-absorbed hands-off mother translates to delayed maturity then Evelyn is puzzled as to why all her hard work falls apart when she tries to guide and open doors for them. You can't raise a kid in front of the TV and then expect them to understand real people and the real world.

Well, a kitchen accident definitely should not have stopped Jake from becoming a chef. Especially if he was so good at cooking. I wish the writers would have developed this idea and make Jake pursue this instead of military. Jake being gooad at cooking should have been more than one episode. And even at Jake's exit from the show, a solution would have been to say that he would go to learn cooking great from chefs in UK for example. A lot of potential in this regard.
I know they wanted Jake to be dumb, like the clockblock line is funny, but 60 60 is just too dumb
She would have a taught a lot to Jake f she was given an opportunity.
I myself was impressed with jakes talent here. When this episode came out i didnt think food was a thing but looking back jake was always the experiment type and food is the best way to try new things out. The whole trial and error method
