I don’t know if anybody mentioned it, but the part where she says she’s “singing to me now”, you can hear in the background, her grandmother actually singing on the record. she was an opera singer.
This was a great reaction to such a beautiful song,John. Thanks👏🏼🫶🏻
Thanks, John. My mom was named Marjorie and the line …”watch as you signed your name ‘Marjorie’…” hits so hard because I find cards and notes with her handwriting, and really most all of her is gone otherwise. Again, thank you, and as Taylor sang, get your grandmother to write everything down for you❤
This is probably one of my favorites bc of the 'vocal easter egg' that Aaron was able to put in. Her grandmother was an Opera Singer and after she passed Taylor had recordings of her vocals that she sent to Aaron and asked him to try to place them in post and he did a really good job with them. You can hear Marjorie as the backing vocals starting with "if I didn't know better/I'd think you were singing to me now" then they repeat and finish out the song. To have that as a memory when they are no longer here is so unique. I don't think i could perform during each show, id be a wreck.
I absolutely love how Taylor uses her grandmother’s singing intertwined. This song is one of my favorite of hers. ❤️
Marjorie’s singing at the end of
I love this and Marjorie’s voice at the end is what gets me every time
Thank you for not cutting out that you got emotional. I appreciate that. My brother and I took my niece to see the Eras Tour at the theater. When this song came on, we looked over at each other over my nieces head and were both were crying. I didn't ask who he was thinking about (we had different sort of relationships with different relatives) but we both knew how the other was feeling. Powerful song, powerful moment.
"My grandma's name is Marjorie" I was immediately like, oh, you're gonna get WRECKED dude. Lol.
The way I went "Noooooooooooo!"
❤ sobbing this with thousands of others was so cathartic. I miss my grandmama so much. I’m glad you got to experience this song and that you still have your Marjorie. ❤❤
This song hits different 🥺
Thank you for sharing John. That is a beautiful song, I can't help but thinking of my grandma too. Her name is not Marjorie but the lyrics still resonate. 💜
This one is so special. I cherish my memories of my grandmothers. ❤
Beautiful song. Thanks for reacting. I got teary also. ❤
Thanks for reacting. This is the Taylor I met and loved in the beginning. Explains, the strength of her character to have such longevity in this industry and remain a lady while being a strong woman. Might have to rabbit hole. I'm both my grandmothers merged so the words hit home
Marjorie’s images & her voice make this very special 🫶
But they said she only writes break up songs? 🙂
I have two lines from this song on a small decal on my truck. I cry listening to this song. At 49, I've lost 7 family members, the latest being my Dad. Thanks for the reaction. 😢
Such a beautiful song and a wonderful, sensitive reaction. We have to treasure our memories, and this is so tender and true about all our loved ones who have gone.
One of Taylor's most beautiful songs.
Great Great reaction...😊
Thanks for your reaction, brother! This is my 2nd favorite song on Evermore and it absolutely reminds me of my grandma...it's so beautiful.
This was written during the pandemic- not sure if she was able to be with her family (her mom had cancer twice - '15 & '19). Because of travel restrictions and living overseas- I'm sure it was scary to think of the risks. This song resonated with me because our dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and both my siblings work in the health field. Also we lived in different states- unsettling feeling not knowing what the future held.
She was 13 in 2003 when her maternal grandfather passed away and about less than a month later her grandmother followed. I think she was at the hospital (the roommate had cancer) and passed away when Taylor was out of town with her mom to pursue music. It made me wonder if both felt bad not being able to share any last words in person.
Beautiful video
Oh man! If you enjoyed this video, you most definitely should watch Timeless!!! You will love it, Marjorie appears on there!
