At least with Raymond James, the public spending got a stadium for USF, a public university, albeit in a wasteful and roundabout way. Cincinnati bought a stadium for only the Bengals and they're on the hook for holographic scoreboards whenever they're invented
USF games are always empty and depressing. When UCF built their own stadium and moved out of the Citrus Bowl I thought it was going to be a waste but turned out to be an amazing investment.
@@jeffc1347 Decent decision, but the "bouce house" is a joke of a stadium. It is the bare minimum of what is needed to have a football field surrounded by people. USF cost to play at RJS is minimal and has plenty of amenities. USF also announced this past week that an on campus stadium is in the works. UCF also only got the invite to the Big 12 due to their recent success. The school, academically, is inferior to USF as shown this past week from the annual university rankings.
AI holographic Carolina Panther checking in ...
@@jeffc1347 USF is making strides to build an on campus stadium. If they can somehow turn around their program, I think it'll happen sooner than later.
@@joedecristoforo5434 Cannons from the stadium pirate ship shooting the panther out.
Despite being a “bad deal,” the stadium became a success due to much more favorable weather conditions (very necessary to hold Super Bowls!) and especially the fact the stadium is literally in the middle of Tampa city itself.
Somewhat, there still a bottom 5 team in attendance most years, and had many blackouts back when that was a thing.
@@forgottenplaces9780 yeah but the Stadium is also used to host bowl games and was cheaper then most to construct. We also got to keep the Bucs so I’d pay again
@@dyltack5349 The biggest advantage: it's in downtown Tampa. As such, it doesn't suffer from the issue of Tropicana Field, where nobody wants to take take that long drive to St. Petersburg from Tampa.
@@Sacto1654 Even more, it's between downtown (plus other entertainment districts), a major highway, and the airport. There isn't a better location in the Tampa Bay Area.
@@forgottenplaces9780 The Bucs had a bad team and that made them have all 1PM kickoffs. If you've ever been to FL in early fall, you know how brutal it is outside. Who would suffer though that to see their team lose? It was very crappy to be a Bucs fan in the blackout era. Not so much now.
Good thing you mentioned that the Bengals do not have an Indoor practice facility, more people need to become aware of this
This has become the best meme in the NFL currently
That's some cheap shit
That’s crazy. With all that cold weather
Wait, really? I thought he meant that they had one but made the city pay for it. That's hilarious, even the Bills have an indoor practice facility, and a really nice one at that. The Bills, for fucks sake!
@@Cruising_On_Lake_Havasoma the Pegulas aren't as cheap (yes, I know about the new stadium rumors) as Mike Brown though
Professional sports teams in Florida know how to negotiate favorable conditions with weak municipal governments. Marlins, Bucs, Lightning are examples of this
Shows to prove how moronic Florida politicians are.
Unknown fact is the Glazers have pumped millions into stadium upgrades and RayJ is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the league.
I love the Ray J! I’m sad Brady is no longer the Bucs QB. It was an awesome 2 year ride!
I like Raymond James Stadium. The big ship makes it unique
I’m so high I love these videos
So were the governing officials who made the deal! ;-) Don't come down! The weather is nicer up there! :-)
I been to that stadium plenty of times for outback bowl. City of Tampa loves it when Iowa comes they make money unlike Marlins Park
Is it nicer than it looks on TV?? Because it looks bland from a TV viewer perspective
@@djtrankilo231 it nice in person. Right next to the Yankees spring training stadium.
Still a nice stadium nonetheless
That’s true, but the cost to build it was a lot cheaper than other stadiums built later. That and the Stadium attracts Super Bowls and other big events. Cincinnati’s Stadium deal was the WORST!
Love it!, I look forward to the next vid
I'm curious to see what happens when the Bucs' lease is up on RayJay in 2028. It's still a very nice stadium. My only complaint is the brutal heat in the early fall. If they did a canopy like Hard Rock Stadium, I could see them staying another 15 years past that. But with their recent success, who knows? With the right funding allocation, a new retractable roof stadium would be nice.
Bring a water bottle.cry baby
@@smartmaxwell9017 Wow. Being rude to a stranger for no reason. I hope things get better for you.
Make sure the Bucs have Brady retire a Buc and draft smart after him to stay relevant and the stadium will get a major renovation or a new stadium will be built in Tampa.
@@djtrankilo231 It seems like Tom wants to stay in Tampa. I see him playing one more season after this one. Hopefully Kyle Trask is learning a lot under his guidance.
We already have too many retractable roof stadiums
Excellent video! We love our pirate ship stadium in Tampa! 😃😃 ~~John In Tampa~~
I hate that some stadiums and arenas are publicly funded, while the public rarely gets any revenue that would come anywhere close to how much these stadiums and arenas cost. Tax payers don’t even get cheaper tickets or parking. Just private businesses sucking city and county taxpayers dry. SMH
Wow. Are people in the community allowed to host events in the stadium for free? Jesus. If it's 100% funded by the public, the deal should be community groups (cultural, non-profits, etc) should be able to host events for free on any day that it has an open slot
The ground swell against public funding hadn't completely taken hold at the time. Teams were starting to be really aggressive with threats about moving as they had to that point been effective in getting them favorable deals, but cities and voters were starting to push back. It would be difficult to imagine a 100% publicly funded stadium today. That would be politically almost impossible. Of course stadiums are much more expensive today, so even partial public finding can be a big bill. On the good side, it is not as flashy as the billion dollar palaces, but it is a very nice stadium.
Once upon a time there was team in Nantucket,
With an all publicly funded stadium, they named: "The Bill: YOU'RE Stuck With it!"...
As a manchester united supporter, I'm not surprised the glazers screwed Florida taxpayers. Look at what they've done to united...
I went to the last regular season game in the Big Sombrero...
Hey I'm a Tampa native and still live here. 😊💯 Raymond James stadium has hosted 3 Superbowls. The old Sunbrero hosted 2. 5 total
And that’s why the Rays still play in the Trop
I love the stadium but I think it’s stupid that the tax payers and citizens of the city have to pay the bill for the stadium also considering most people might not even visit the stadium in the stadiums life time then if you do go to the stadium everything is most likely expensive with few exceptions. As much as I love NFL stadiums I hate when tax payers have to pay the bills on the Stadiums. Why can’t most cities just say “If you move here your paying for the stadium” if most cities just did that these NFL teams would have no other choice but to pay for it.
Sports teams get tax breaks and help on stadiums, because they generate a ton of tax revenue. They are not just getting free money, that money goes back into the community. The construction employs thousands, the team employs hundreds, taxes on tickets, parking, concessions. They contribute millions every year to the economy in their cities.
@@emkayusa meh for 10 weeks out of the year, fact is this is billionaire owners making the public pay for THEIR expenses. The amount of revenue they get from their TV deals, these owners that cry "cash strapped" are full of shit.
As a Packers fan from Wisconsin, I attended the MNF game at RaYJa in that first year, 1998. A few Bucs fans harassed us after the game “you spent your money now get the f-- out of here”! One middle aged woman yelled at us. It was a fun night, despite GB losing the game.
Go home we are full
Cool video.
It was $268 million (adjusted for inflation). Tampa's economy has has made money off the stadium. It wasn't a bad deal.
Bad deal that it was 100% funded. But now looking back, not such a bad deal because it was built for dirt cheap and is still regarded as a fine NFL stadium worthy of Superbowls. However, an additional 100mil has recently been put into it for upgrades.
@@ArizonaHotSauce And the county owns the stadium. Great deal.
@@AnthonyClauser Yes, but the bad deal is that the Glazers reap almost all the profits from RJS and ANYTHING hosted in it. To my understanding (I'm no expert and please correct me if I am mistaken), the Glazers still get all the profits from all events, not just Buc games. Any random concert or Monster Jam is cash in the Glazer's pockets.
@@ArizonaHotSauce I don't know the specifics. I'd imagine since you are offering specifics, (while not being snide) you are correct. I simply had this crazy thought that the person who owns something would... Own it... But clearly even when municipalities get it right, they still figure out how to mess it up.
maybe a bad deal at the time, but it turned out to be great in the long run.
It’s a nice stadium. Watching WrestleMania there was great. Even made it on my channel.
Make a video of the late-great OAKLAND ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM!!! (Home to the once dominant Oakland Raiders)
Isn't that stadium still standing?
Raymond James stadium and the bucs franchise were purely running on luck, and that luck was Tom Brady. What were the fucking odds
Dang....Tampa should own the team then like Greenbay
Seriously, why don't cities just buy the damn team while they're at it if they're going to be spending the tax payers money on everything else.
@@jackoff1826 Because NFL rules forbid it. The Packers were grandfathered in.
@@jackoff1826 because more money is made from private ownership than public.
Its crazy to think that this 100% Funded Taxpayer Stadium has kinda worked out for the area..It has paid for itself which its typically not the case...besides having two permanent tenants in the Bucs and USF Bulls it has hosted major events throughout its history (Musical Concerts, Multiple Superbowls, CFP National Championship, ACC championships, Mutiple Wrestlemania events and Bowl Games) I thinks it was a great investment on the part of Hillsborough County.
And this stadium doesn't even look amazing like Hard Rock, Mercedes-Benz or other modern stadiums. Hell, the Louisiana Superdome looks nicer and the Superdome is old.
RayJay is a great stadium. I like it better than Gillette Stadium. I wouldn’t mind a roof, but it’s OK without one. It’s really only the pre-season and first month that it’s really hot.
This is best case scenario for an nfl stadium not to outdated to host an nfl team but not luxurious
Surprised they didn't build by water since they pirates lol
Can anyone answer this? Is there seating inside that pirate ship? If so that’s pretty cool I’m not going to lie
Ever heard of Lambeau Field that is 100% publicly funded
If theres one thing about the Buccaneers we can all agree on is that from 1976-1996 and again from 2014-2019 they had the worst uniforms ever.
nah the creamsicles uniforms are popular again
I highly suspect the Bucs will replace the red jersey with an orange one in the next decade. They're only wearing the red ones 3 times this regular season.
@@91_C4_FL I doubt that, the Red is an Iconic look in the area. I could totally see the Pewter jersey being dropped for Orange tho
The digital clock ones were the drizzling shits.
Dudes just reading Wikipedia lol
Not suitable for an NFL team... when it hosted the Super Bowl a couple years before that. Christ... Governments need to tell these teams and their billionaire owners to piss off.
Public money should never be used for private sports franchise stadiums and facilities. The lesson learned? Hold the public officials accountable and drain the swamp.
well then team will just leave the city, shit happens all time and if you lose your team. Most of the time the team is gone forever
@@dyltack5349 oh well babel. Its not the taxpayers responsibility to pay for a stadium for billion dollar sports franchises.
@@BrownBomber92181 well then say goodbye to your team cause they will leave in the middle of the night to a city where taxpayers will pay for a brand new stadium. It just happened in Vegas
@@dyltack5349 i know, I am from Vegas. Most of us locals were pissed the state gave the franchise $750 billion. Its ridiculous
@@BrownBomber92181 well that’s you bro, I’m willing it pay for a new stadium for my local teams to make sure they stay here
It seems that taxpayers should be reimbursed by the stadium.
The city paid for 100% of the stadium, but they don't own it like Green Bay? The naming rights were sold as well, but was that money sent back into the community? Shouldn't it be Tampa Stadium? This is major bull shit. I'm glad the stadium has benefitted the surrounding area but if it had failed the tax payers were still stuck with the bill. This is not an ideal model.
I *think* the county owns it, but the franchise keeps the profits (excluding annual lease payments). A very odd arrangement, to say the least.
it wasn't very clear why it was the worst deal. I think i missed the whole point? why exactly uwas it a bad deal?
The county paid for all construction costs, but has no cut of the event profits. They make most of their money off the lease.
@@TheMrJourneyer thank you, it was never clear from the video who benefit it from the deal. What I took from the video was that the city put 0% investment on the stadium and the ownership put all of it. but the video was never clear on how the earnings were split, and how bad was ever since, but thank you for giving me at least an idea
@@dothedew8250 the video was clear, and you have it completely backwards, ownership paid for 0% not the county the county paid for 100% ownership usually pays for 44% on avg as i stated thats why it was a bad deal…
@@forgottenplaces9780 let me watch it again because the buyout for the stadium was very very clearn, but not how the profits post construction were and trust me I love your videos, I just left a bit confused, but I will watch it again. and keep making vids man! I love them!
@@dothedew8250 thank you
Until the cities own their teams, I could care less about sports (aka some billionaires personal property)
Who is Raymond James?
Its a company
They are a money investment company.
Investment company named after the founder. Its HQ is in the Tampa area.
I've never understood the point of owners wanting taxpayers to fund their new stadiums So they can make money It makes zero sense to me These owners make billions of dollars they have the money to fund it themselves yet they want the average Joe to fund it via tax So billionaire can make even more money It just doesn't comprehend with me And I'm guessing most people would probably agree with me
California certainly agrees with you. SoFi was completely privately funded, as is the new Clippers arena currently being built, as were the Warriors and Giants currently homes. And the Raidrrs finally got the new stadium they're wanted for so many years.... In Lss Vegas..
After Ralph Wilson Stadium, this is the biggest dump I’ve ever seen.
