What Happened to the Washington Monument?
So much truth has been left out of this story. I grew up in Oakland. Born in Highland Hospital in 1969. I was a very young teen when we found the freight train full of guns and white bricks open on the tracks for days. That was a huge shift in life as I had come to know it. That is a heavy truth to leave out of the reasoning of "what happened to Oakland". My mother had a job at Campbell's, a.k.a, "the cannery". My Aunt worked at 7up, another at Mother's Cookies, and another at C&H sugar. My grandmother worked at Brokway glass company. My uncle worked at Longview which made cardboard boxes and packing supplies. What happened to all those jobs? Why did they leave, why were drugs and guns dropped off into neighborhoods of the flatlands? Why did they shut down the bowling alley, skating rink, movie houses, arcades, batting cages, grand prix raceways. Why did the government destroy Oakland? TELL THE TRUTH!
This type of conversation begins & ends with the Polo Grounds. Deep CF with the unique cutout and the stairs to the Clubhouse in play. The Giants stole the catchers signs from the clubhouse with a telescope in 51’. (Bobby Thomson Shot Heard Round The World). No batted ball ever struck the clubhouse. Willie Mays’ incredible catch couldn’t have happened at other parks. Bullpens IN play in the incredibly deep left/right center power alleys. Also part of the song stealing schemes. The Giants installed a buzzer there. HUGE second deck overhang catching home run balls. Perhaps At least 5x more than the tiny Tiger Stadium overhang from this vid. Incredibly short distances to the foul pole (255 ish) made it a HR haven but the unique bathtub shape kept total runs scored neutral. That same bathtub shape created a huge amount of foul territory behind the catcher making wild pitches/passed balls an adventure. Coogan’s Bluff overlooked the ballpark, fans could stand there and see quite a lot of the field for free. The John T Brush staircase which led from there to the ballpark is still there. The place has cultural significance as well. After being torn down housing was built - the legendary basketball court Rucker Park is there. “Street” style basketball was basically invented there.
That's where i was born and raised and still live. They need to sell the building already there is like 2 stores and one resturant in the whole thing. Its mostly used for speed walkers and the one restuarant that survived it's the best terriyaki ever or was not sure now haven't been in years.
also walmart didn't leave they changed locations to the other side of town
What happened? ... one word ... democrats.
Walbridge Wildcats... We 're strong for Walbridge The greatest school... We are the Wildcats and we never lose.... We're proud of our colors Red and White We're proud of our team So fight team fight! If you know, you know if you dont, you dont...
As a charlotte native this is bs charlotte just greedy and wanted it uptown for money reasons uptown everything has a price on it
And they tore down Tiger Stadium in Detroit.
I don't know. I've never been to Fenway or Wrigley, but there are parks that I really like. Camden Yards for one. LARGE heads and shoulders above Memorial Stadium. I really like the Jake. I've been to all three stadiums the Mets have played in and CITI Field is much better than the Polo Grounds or Shea. How about Chavez Ravine? PNC Park has one of the best views going! Yeah, plenty of nice MLB parks around, but my favorite park ever was the University of Hawaii field. Nice, small stadium and if you get tix on the upper deck, practically the entire view is of Diamond Head. Awesome!
NHL should just include a newest hockey expansion team in in Birmingham, Alabama!❤🤍💙❤🤍💙🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒
i blame the extra netting around the infield
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe back in the early days of baseball it counted as a home run if the ball bounced over the wall. That would make some of these longer outfields seem at least a little bit more reasonable.
I've been to a few concerts in downtown Pontiac. Its a shame it is a slum. There is potential to be a nice downtown. The area in the 'circle' could be filled with restaurants and coffee shops, etc. But alas, everything is empty and downtrodden.
Portlamd got rid of thwir AAA team the Beavers for Stupid Soccer. Portland is Not Worthy of MLB. Go Mariners
I was going to say pricing!!! out west I am 3 hours from the closest ballpark T-Mobile Park the woeful Mariners which beating your head against a brick wall would be more therapeutic than watching them play. The pitching is usually excellent only to see hitters give them no run support losing in a 1 nothing game. The hitters couldn't find the ball with a roadmap. So if you have a dog of a team year after year or like the Mariners who give you a little bit of hope and blow it each and every year down the stretch and miss the playoffs. Gas, food, lower bowl tickets getting ridiculous unless you are playing a cellar dweller team. Driving through Tacoma traffic yeah have fun with that.
$$$$$$$.....that killed the Ballpark
Michigan Wolverines, 2023 National Champions
Another great video
One of the many reasons baseball sucks. Standardize your Fucking sport! Add attack dogs, do ANTHING to spice up the 3rd most boring sport on the planet.
Kmart was the only real store in Marathon, Florida; and I miss it.
Neighborhood ballparks are the best. Too bad we’ll never get another Wrigley with no parking
Left field at Crowley Field in Cincinnati went uphilll. During games at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, they used to roll the batting cage, still assembled, not folded up, and put it up against the center filed wall on the field, in play.
....and then there was the decline of the paper industry.
Detroit’s Should Be nicknamed Decline City
Only time ever impressed was five guys when they were starting out. It was incredible. This is before the franchising took over.
We will not go anywhere that is cashless.
It’s the youth . They failed the youth.
It was done in Japan.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-7 “For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.” 1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” May the Lord Jesus Christ rescue souls today.
Simply way too expensive. Our single A team charges $13 for the bleachers. It's unaffordable to take a family.
Stadiums are the least problem for baseball. It's the product inside the lines that's their problem. The more they change the rules. The worst the product gets.
What ruined the ballpark is teams had to add so many superfluous amenities and distractions that it's like Six Flags without the roller coasters. The live baseball game used to be entertaining enough, but now there's a thousand ways to keep busy at the ballpark without ever watching the actual game 😒
Have you taken children to a ballgame lately?
There is NO WAY we can go back to something like Fenway or Wrigley given Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and with seating that properly points towards the field with no obstructions and wide enough to accommodate most Americans now.
Too loud filled with utter nonsense. If you can't discuss the game you're watching with who you came in with why show up
Everything is so corporate now...
If you listen to Depressed Ginger, he would tell you that it all went downhill because they didn’t spend 5-10 billion dollars on a retractable roof stadium.
That cat be making up ish
Oakland 😢
I grew up there. My grandparents worked at the Pontiac plant with the UAW. I was able to move away from there in 2004 with my sister. It was the best thing that could have happened to us but I still miss my roots in the yac.
What you are saying is that people do not want to sit down and watch a game of their home team. They would rather walk around, have drinks and “take in the stadium.” We are living in changing times.
Oh good! You took off your baseball cap! 😊
In reality, going to any event has always been expensive. The team needs to make money so they do it anyway they can. I remember going to Dodger games in the 1980’s and my dad complaining about paying $2.50 for a beer and $1 for a hotdog when a six pack was $1.99 and you could probably get a pack of dogs for under a dollar. It sucks, and it has gotten worse. Every space in a stadium now is for sale. All these clubs are like a holding company just to make more money in one way or another. Heck, the McCourt family sold the Dodgers but I believe they still own the rights to the parking $.
Guaranteed Rate Field has been hated since it was known as New Comiskey Park
Call me crazy, but I really like Oracle Park
Two things killed Syracuse and many other American cities: 1) Loss of good, stable jobs for families to rely on. 2) A loss of societal values and standards, leading to high crime and hopelessness.
Short attention span. No one can just sit and eat their hotdog without visual/audio bombardment!
Go Cubs!
Too bad about Comisky. Their old stadium, even with the pillars, was a relic, loved by fans, and you felt you were actually watching baseball.
I don’t even have to watch this to answer: Ridiculously high ticket and food prices.
Ding ding ding winner. I won't drive 4 hours just to get to the ballpark to only afford the cheapest bleacher seat or nose bleed upper deck, the lower bowls of the stadiums want way too much.
@@bartsullivan4866 yup. I’ll betray my age, here, by saying I remember sitting in the upper deck at Shea Stadium for $1.50, and the bleachers in Yankee Stadium for 75 cents!
I was born in Pontiac went to the first football game at the stadium raced my motercycle in the stadium my friends worked at Pontiac the Oakland plant was in my great grandparents backyard my next door neighbor was Kirk Gibson I was there for the super bowl I could walk to the Pontiac mall would go to the miracle mile I can go on and on
I just don’t care. A bunch of millionaires playing a kids game for big money in an expensive venue that’s an issue getting to… I stopped caring a long time ago. Stadiums built with taxpayer money….BS
Thank goodness Kansas City wasn’t afraid of the team’s threats and voted down building the Royals a new stadium and entertainment venue downtown 👍
