I actually like the original Marshall game with Capablanca where he played this for the first time. Even though it was a loss, it tells a really great story entertainmentwise. Marshall attacks and from the perspective of the average chess player he looks like he's just got this intimidating position and he's throwing everything he can at Capa, but Capa defends and is able to win. I get that it's not really played the way he played it and Capablanca showed how to beat it, but I just think that game is very, very nice!

14:30 actually Dubov (the other Danya!) recently showed you can play d5 even against the anti-marshall move a4 in a recent theoretical breakthrough! It leads to marshall-like compensation just as in the mainline after axb5 dxe4
Capablanca must have really been on fire that day. OTB he not only figured out how to get out of the attack but by the end of the game he had a forced mate in 6. I don't know if he announced the mate in 6 though.
Instead of Nd2, Danya says that Re4 or Be3 should be played, but can anyone explain why Qf3 doesn’t work? (With the idea of them playing Qg2 to either trade off the black queen or force her away.)
Wait, this dudes name was C-H-O-D Alexander? Wtf. I think I remember some guys playing chess in the imitation game in one scene but, idk 😐 maybe I’m making that up.
found this on the wikipedia you're right Alexander is portrayed by actor Matthew Goode in the 2014 film The Imitation Game, which depicts the British attempts to crack the Enigma machine at Bletchley Park.

Sorry I'm a year late to the party, goin through all your video library atm. At 12:00, is there a reason Rexe5 doesn't work? Rexe5, dxe5, Rg5+ Ng2, Bxg2 hxg2, Qxg2+ leads to mate quickly. If black chooses to go Kh1 instead of blocking with knight then he ends up dropping pretty much every pawn quickly. Other line just wins even harder I guess? Or is there a flat out refutation to my suggestion?
I play the marshall as my main opening with black, and I know the Nd2 move is a losing mistake, but I've never had it in a game in the last year, but Danya gets it in the first chance and he's not even a marshall player smh. Coincidentally, there's an idea played by anand and adams among others: instead of Re1 to play the strange looking Re2 after black's Bd6: the idea is that then after ... Qh4 g3 Qh3, the correct move for white is indeed Nd2, because then after Bg4, f3 becomes possible because the rook on e2 defends the second rank and Bxg3 ideas don't work.
Just a small request. Could you make the title the opening you play rather than the opponent? Or atleast something that indicates that you are playing against that opening.
Playing c6 is +0.6, Bb7 is +0.7, so either is fine. The funny thing is, computer considers Nf6 (the move Danya said as not too great) as the best move +0.4. That being said, this is like Stockfish 13 with depth 21 and 287 kn/s. Deeper and larger nodes might answer this differently, but all in all it's pretty equal. That being said, the real reason why c6 is better than Bb7 is because you want to play Bd6. If you play Bb7, then you need to play Bf6 to kick the rook instead of the better Bd6 to get tempo on activating the queen.
In general, it's risky to take that hanging pawn if your king isn't castled. (Even if you defend the knight after taking, it's easy to push the knight away with a pawn at some point). I think there are cases where you can take a pawn like that.
You can actually. Those lines are called the Open Spanish. Daniel played the Closed Spanish in this video. In the Open Spanish white will regain the pawn pretty quickly.
