After years of stagnant hair growth, I stopped protective styling a year ago after seeing Keke Palmer with her TWA out and my 4C hair has been flourishing. I remember thinking damn, my hair is the same length as hers... I had to admit to myself that protective styling was just an excuse to the fact that I was too scared to wear my afro out in public daily. Thankfully I've since gotten over that and I'm NOT going back to braids and wigs back-to-back-to-back. Having my hair out made me learn how to actually take care of my hair consistently. I don't even wear bonnets to sleep anymore, just a satin pillowcase. People have seriously made things 10x harder than they need to be for CZcams content, product sponsorships and views.
Now it's detangle, shampoo, deep condition, 2-strand twists that I take out the next day when dry and fluff out so I can rock a fro for about 2 weeks and repeat. Simple.

THANK YOU for this video! When I started my natural hair journey I was determined not to protective style. 1) My 😂scalp is sensitive and I can’t tolerate the feel of braids and wigs. 2) I had my hair heat straightened or relaxed my entire life and had no idea what my natural hair looked like. Once I chose my natural hair I was not going to hide it. I’m approaching 7 yrs and have no regrets. My hair is healthy, full, and beautiful. My hair is out everyday and all day except at night to avoid tangles.

We've already shattered the myth that our hair does not grow. Here's another video that shatters the protective styling myth. You-Tube is full of all kinds of nonsense as far as hair growth tips. Onions, Garlic, mud, now cloves are taking over. How come it's just us?

Good morning! It’s truly deep with us because of our history and continuation of us being told in so many ways that our hair is “not pretty hair” that our hair “naturally don’t grow”. These lies are embedded in the fibers of our societies and continue to flourish even though we see with our own eyes that it’s not true. But we all can change this. Changing this is up to us. Videos like this is a small step in doing so. Thank you so much for your continuous support and taking the time to comment. You are appreciated! Blessings!

The best hair video that Ihave ever heard. I have refused to protective style. I have been natural since 2016. My setbacks came from color and hair grease, not wearing my hair out.

what did hair grease do to your hair? xx

@@AF-cm1kg it was not so much the hair grease, but me. I did not properly shampoo the grease out. It built up so bad that I had a terrible set back. When I finally got it out, my hair was beyond repair.

Even though I am relaxed, I never liked the idea of constantly putting hair in a protective style. Like at ehat point do we get to enjoy our hair? Personally I wear my hair most of the time & I think thats why it's so healthy. Keeping it under a wig 24/7 would cause me to be lazy

Question...are there seasons when your natural hair would shrink because of the weather thus requiring a protective style?

I’m on a new journey (twa) and wanted to get braid. Then remembered the pain and decided not to. I dont get why every other group of people can wake up and go but i have to constantly wear protective styles to do same?

My thoughts exactly. I look at it as a choice and not a must. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I’m going in this direction with my daughter she hates protective styling and I’m also tired of doing them because she has sooooo much hair and it’s super thick. I honestly don’t think it’s even needed because our hair grows regardless of what we do to it we just have to maintain really.

I’ve been wearing my natural hair freely since I’ve cut it all off during a mental breakdown. It’s now been month 4 and my hair has grown so much already. I haven’t used protective styling all year. Before I cut my hair I decided to stop wearing weave so why would I start now? I bought a headband wig and it STUNK so bad and made me feel silly. Then, I tried faux locs on myself and it was so tight, uncomfortable, and just not me. I took those out the same hour I finished them. It’s just no better hair than my natural hair. No matter the length. ❤❤❤❤
