It's weird that the standard bike is unfinished with no belly pan. Why would that even be an option for a bike like this. Should have just made it naked
Best looking road bike released for decades. They’re on a roll, their choice of retro dirt bikes for ‘24 was a winner as well. Congratulations Yamaha! Other manufacturers need to take a leaf and go bold!
Would have prefered a larger front headlight and larger tail with storage space like an actual 90s sportsbike, but honestly its about damn time our generations got some of our nostalgia marketed to. I cant wait to see more 90s inspired bikes like this and the katana
Cannot believe how cool that bike looks. It looks like it came from a Japanese manga. Reminds me the time I saw a Genesis 600 in 96, and I was hooked for ever.
Other motorbike channels have journalists who are enthusiastic about bikes. Bike World has petrolheads who are enthusiastic about journalism. The buttomline difference might not be that much, but you guys always achieve to extract that little bit more information about eacht bike that others cannot fathom. Well done, love each of you!
Yes! Pendulum is slowly swinging back from the era of rabbit eared bikes. Latest MT has lower bar and better rider position. Hate those high bar nakeds.
I remember growing up in those times too (and taking my formative steps as a motorcyclist). Good times definitely. Bikes were certainly powerful enough, beginning to handle better than most riders could outrider them, tyres were also becoming very good. Less speed cameras and less restrictions. The music was brilliant.... I could go on.... but definitely a 'golden era' of technologies coming together for the everyday regular motorcyclist. Bikes were much less complicated too. You could actually service your own bike and diagnose issues without automotive diagnostics training! This is why my 'youngest' bike was manufactured in 2007! Keeping it simple. I even have a very tidy '91 Yamaha TDM 850 for that 'garage door' feeling! Now there is a bike they could relaunch for the current era! Happy and safe riding everyone!😊
Yamaha didn't fiddle with the engine hardware on this GP model, whereas Kawasaki decided Z900 was "just too powerful" for the RS, and they neutered it.
There have been rumours of a GPZ900R retro for a couple of years now. The Z900 [123hp] engine would be perfect. But so far it has just been a rumour. I hope it turns into reality soon. They would sell like hotcakes.
If they make it, I hope they don't touch a thing about the Z900 powerplant. That, or give it even more power. I don't understand the "need" to reduce power, add weight, just because styling is different from the donor bike. All the reengineering costs money and jacks up the price.
Laverda monjuic, jota, ducati pantah..... Just instantly thought montjuic not 80s 90s ... 70s 80s woof, takes a lot for me to stop and stare at a bike ...but yea... Gimmme 😊
First bike since the 2004 R1 that actually stirs me, makes me want it, among all bikes including Ducatis, Aprilias, Triumphs, etc. But it's gotta be the yellow/red/white colorway.
I currently own a Velocity Moto XSR900LC, the LC homage based on the Gen1 XSR900. I love it, have aways said I'd never sell it, but am thinking hard about that now! Reminds me of my TZR250 back in 1992, whereas the LC reminds of my RD250LCin 1988.
I'm also "of an age" where I fondly remember these bikes and this thing really floats my boat. So much that I'm thinking about getting off my GS for one. Such a pity I can't have more than one bike.
This is a stunning bike. I like the idea that the belly pan can be added and removed easily - you can have two different looking bikes but only own one 👍🥂 I love the looks and sound
Love this review! "That open the garage door feeling says it all"! Looks alone will make me buy this bike when it comes to the states! Nice job. The end of the review with the kids on the street was fun!
Pay attention Suzuki! You've got the K5/6 1000, put it back in sports bike that pays homage to Suzook's 750/1000 heritage and it'll sell like hot cakes. It doesn't need 200hp, 150-170 will do. However, it does need to be light (
Hey Chad - don't apologise for recalling that wonderful period in time! The last (and only) new bike I bought was in 89 and it was a Yamaha FZR600 Genesis in black because it went faster! Now having seen this I'm seriously thinking perhaps it's about time for another......🤔
When Yamaha released the naked XSR in blue, with the gold rims, I saw the flat tank and said that the bike was screaming out for a frame mounted, late '80s FZR/TZR style 1/4 fairing, and above the triple clamp clip-ons. It's like they read my mind with this bike! Now they need to bring it to the USA...
Awesome Video! That is a beautiful bike! But it has to be uncomfortable, doesn't it? I can't wait for the local dealer to get one just to swing a leg over it. BTW that shot at the end with all the children cheering- priceless! Best!
I passed my test in 1990 and bought a TZR250 the day after. 34 years later I still own one! This looks really cool. Not sure I like the bar end mirrors or lack of end can though. Also not sure it looks any better with a full fairing 🤔
It's very pretty. To be fair I like the XSR900F design from Velocity Moto more. Which you can refit to a regular xsr900. Then you've got choice between the regular design or that special one. Not sure on the difference in prices to be fair. Have you guys seen that Velocity Moto design?
Giving me vibes of my 1989 FZR1000 BUT was really suprised at the price. Just checked CycleTrader here in America and there is a 2016 R1M with a little over 3,000 miles for the same price as this. As beautiful as this bike is I would pick the 8 year old R1M.
Looks Great! but the '23 XSR was $2K cheaper. I guess the suspension is upgraded, but the '23 was darn good. Love the fairing and the larger screen, probably a few mode upgrades. Another winner!
It's good that they made the seat softer than on the regular XSR900. and without that piece of plastic side fairing going between the front of the seat and the gas tank.
From the looks alone, it is 11/10 🔥
It's looks dogshit.
It's 1/10
Agree 💯

Nope. They are gonna follow Honda and F Americans......

Now Suzuki need to make an XR69 lookalike with K5 engine 😊
Really nice. Manufacturers need to build more faired bikes like this, with semi-comfortable clip ons for street use.
