Awesome Track layout
Beautiful track fellas
What an awesome track! This is certainly something for me and my daughters to aspire to.
I recently picked up nearly 70ft of Carrera track from a sweet eBay deal. It was in the form of a couple of starter sets, so I only have R1 curves at the moment. I can’t wait to get a pit lane, some flat & banked R2s & R3s, as well as a few additional lane changers.
My daughters and nephews are really excited about the hobby. They all have a blast racing, but they’re also super excited about building scenery and adding track lighting. I didn’t even have to mention car tuning- they were all asking how to improve handling and speed.
I may have created a whole team of monsters and it’s incredibly exciting! 😂
we are in San Lorenzo, CA and run Saturdays 10am+ let us know in the comments if you'd like to visit the track. Free admission.
Solid layout. I like the multi-tiered design and the big, lazy hill. Two thumbs up!

Great layout!

Sehr cooles Layout 👍
sweet....
The track sounds so smooth and quite. Is that do to the kind of tires, if so which.
Do you leave the track outside all the time?
After a little help!!! If I have a large Carrera digital track do I need extra power supply? Since adding more track to current cars don’t seem to go as quick and start and stop sometimes ?
Does this outdoor track remain outside
Amazing layout! How long does that take to assemble and disassemble since it's outdoors?
We tarp the track when not in use and C-clamp the tarp down. Disassemble at Halloween and reassemble at Easter. There isn't much rain here in the SF Bay Area Easter-Halloween, so a light rain is no biggie with heavy tarps. Wind and sleet? NO. Being forced to disassemble forces us to reassemble and get even better track layouts.
All this is outside?
How you you 'warp' and bend the Carrera track to keep the metal contacts from kinking or popping up to effect the guide keels from lifting up off the track slightly and disrupting the balance of the cars on high speed corners, and possibly catching the braids at certain points? Can the track be re-straightened and reused if you tweak the layout in the future?
I do think the sightlines of the competitors are needlessly blocked with some of the overly banked sections (that 'need for speed' dilemma) within the layout, but your perimeter trackage is spot on amazing with excellent viewing tiers for the 'drivers' regardless of their vantage point during your races. I don't think you could've laid out 161' of track any better overall. You East Bay Slot Car guys have a treasure there! How do you get the guys to go home once you finish the racing venue for the evening?!?
Go to the home improvement or hardware store or search "Nelson wood shims" on google (got ours at Lowes). They are 1" wide wood wedges in a plastic pack that are maybe six inches long and go from perhaps a quarter inch down to nothing? Slide those under the high side and use the screw-down plastic retainer "eye" thingermabob that Carrera makes to allow you to attach the track to the table to tighten the track down on the low side and you're fine. The track needs very little to become cambered.
We're running outdoors, and the sun exposure will gradually bake the plastic into whatever shape you have bent it to, and it will retain that shape later. I suppose that you can just screw down the molded plastic piece to flatten it out again or walk away from it? We have enough track inventory in the "library" that we can sacrifice a couple of pieces to get what we want each time that we do a new layout.
The banked sections are actually AOK in general despite how it may look from the camera eyeball. There is the super tight one in the center that I pointed to that isn't really visible from behind it, but the thing about banks is that you can go full speed and not fly off, so just go full speed through it and the car will reappear in a blink and it's OK. They're not the place where you'll bone yourself and deslot.
We go from 10am to whenever once a week. Serve lunch. Everybody but Mr. Max is in their 50's, so standing around and marshalling cars and so forth means that people are generally baked by 2pm or so, but it is very loose and informal - come and go as you please. There is always next week, and the real challenge is getting six or more people each week. The track has been strangely resistant to invitations. We are thinking of trying to find a boy scout troop or something. Hope they don't think that we're creepers for asking!
Grin, you guys are the opposite of creeps. That's funny. Very polite and friendly is the best way to describe the group. Very helpful and patient to get new drivers up to speed. I voted this the best local track for 2023. 😉👍👀
I was able to custom shape mine using a heat gun. I started out super cautious, going slow and low; but eventually turned the heat up. As long as you’ve got a decent surface under the track, you can easily mold it. The stainless rails seem to just go wherever the plastic does.
How do you 'warp and bend .......... Saw-wee like my grandson would say!
I want to get out there soon! What are the requirements? ?
There are no requirements besides being a nice person. contact us directly for more information.
So how does one ~choose~ to hit the lane change or not? None of my old slot cars could steer themselves, they were just at the mercy of following the slot, and if they just happened to randomly hit something like the lane change, well, then I guess you were changing lanes. But this guy made it seem like there was some amount of choice in the matter.
There’s a button on the controller you hit as you cross the lane change track section to change. They have sections where you can change lanes to hit the apex of turns or take outside lines, change on straightaways.. it’s crazy…
I got a Carrera digital set a few years ago to use with my boys and that blew my mind… it adds a totally new level of fun and competition.
@@craigkanish6127- Awesome! Thanks for the info dude! I've been wondering how that worked for a while now.

You can do anything if you’ve got the money. That’s a lot of money you’re looking at.
A huge club track like this is a lot more attainable when you’ve got several people pitching in.
Outside ?
Started outside because Covid spacing desires. Don't want to stand next to anyone's sweaty butt and breathe their air, and it's really worked out well since! Bonus is I don't have to fight my wife for domination of the living room or give up my garage workshop.
