  • If you love the odd and the unusual, then you're really going to enjoy this one. A classic car show full of tiny motor cars, where 2CVs and Reliants are made to look enormous!
This video contains road runs as well as the main show day, with cars including Bond Bug and Minicar, Berkeley, BMW Isetta, Heinkel/Trojan, Messerschmitt, Scootacar, Autobianchi, Fiat 500, an AC Petite, a PAIR of Invacars, Trabant, Honda N600 and Beat, Lloyd Alexander, Peel P50 and Trident and the public unveiling of the Michelotti PAC - a 1984 concept based on Daihatsu Cuore running gear.
Huge thanks to the show organisers. It was a superb weekend. There will be a follow-up video about TWC the Invacar's weekend.
Subscribe if you wish, or head to hubnut.org for the purchasing of goodies and support options. Thanks!

Lovely video, such memories. My first "car" was a Heinkel Bubble. I bought it in 1965 ( I'm that old ). I drove it on a Provisional licence with "L" plates as it was deemed a motorcycle and sidecar. Things were a little easier back then. You don't know your born until you've pushed a Heinkel to nearly 70 mph down a steep hill and lived to tell the tell. 😉

Three wheel Isettas have the same issue as 2 CVs on gravel hill climbs ,the lack of traction! haha. Once I had to climb a hill backwards in a Visa Club. And a wet grass hill in a Ami-8 was hell in Earth!.

Although we were fortunate enough to be at the rally on Sunday, it's great to see the footage of these amazing little cars in Wells, Cheddar and at the Haynes Motor Museum.
It was nice to meet you on Sunday and as you said everyone was friendly and willing to chat about their cars.
Not only did our grandson have his photograph taken with yourself and TWC (Thank you for that) but he also given the opportunity to sit in the driving seat of an Isetta. His favourite car at the rally was the P registered 2CV, he told me that I should buy a 2CV.
So perhaps he is a young HubNut in the making or maybe he is just a petrolhead like myself, either way, it was an enjoyable day.

Back in the 1960s, these cars were still being used as daily drivers and spare parts and service were readily available. The most common sights were Isettas and Heinkel-Trojans with the occasional Bond Minicar, Messerschmitt or Berkeley. The others cars were rarely, if ever, seen. By the 1970s, few were left on the road and they started to become treasured collector's items.

Only 14 minutes into this video but... those micro cars look like too much fun!
Also, Somerset, my favourite county, aside from Norfolk, spent many holidays there now, well, three! All good times though, Dunster is a must place to visit, you will not find a finer place in Britain! Apart from the village of Castle Acre, in Norfolk, obviously =)
Seriously though, really enjoying this video so far, its on pause while i type this as i don't wish to miss the micro car shenanigans, I am tempted to wear my headphones to hear those engines properly as they sound great on my tinny laptop speakers.

Nice to see the Bonds as they were produced round't'corner from my house... father-in-law had one as a garden ornament at one point, when they were of zero value. Also quite partial to the beige Reliant Rebel... there's one of those lurking the other side of my garden fence that my neighbour might one day get around to bike-engine-ing.

My old man was the service director @Norton Villiers(Marston Rd. Wolverhampton) in the mid 60's. When my sister passed her test, for a first car, she was 'lent' a MkG Bond(BDA 666) that had been hanging round the factory for ages(there had been plans to fit it with a 'Starmaker' engine(this never matirialised) she kept it for a year! It had a 4T Villiers twin, and a siba reverse electric start(this ran the thing backwards, and, effectively gave you 4 gears in reverse!)
We were very sorry when that was returned.

That Pac concept micro car was really cool, it did look like it had mk2 fiesta fron lights and indicators though, but still cute as hell, the rear of it was really nice, and the hinges and instrument panel gave it a little touch of class. I would happily own and daily drive it without a problem if it was produced, what a shame it isn't hey.

So many wonderful little cars, most of which were never sold in Australia. We had a couple of tries of our own with the Hartnett and the Lightburn Zeta in the 50's and 60's and bunch of Kei cars in the 70's and 80's znd even the FSM Nikki (Fiat 126) into the 90's but I think cheap Korean cars like the Hyundai Excel for $9,990 in 1986 killed the market for Micro cars here.
Maybe it's just Aussies don't like Micro cars, even the Smart stopped being sold in 2015. My '83 Suzuki Hatch 800 (the 2 seat wagon version only here) was massive fun to drive but impossible to get parts for when I wore out the engine. I was talking to the owner of a Messerschmidt KR200 a few weeks ago who talked about someone who'd spent over AU $90k on his. When a Fiat 500 is over $20k here cars like these are sadly priced way out of my reach.
I love watching the parade of remarkable vehicles on your channel.

It was good fun! Many motorhomes had to be towed in my Land Rover...

Wow, that is a wonderful event! I'd love to geek out at it some day. I owned a Goggo coupe' for about 10 years because of the wonderful introduction to microcars I enjoyed at Gould's Microcar Classic events in Brookline Massachusetts. Microcar owners the world over seem to be the friendliest folks!

An amazing display of splendiddity. A great video from you, Ian and many amazing machines. If the Sinclair C5 was that size and had a decent power pack in it (IC or electric) It would have likely been a success. I'm somewhat bemused that 'mini' cars aren't a thing nowadays as for many jobs they'd be ideal.

Brilliant video Ian. I always liked the Bond mini vans but you never see them around now and they'd probably cost a fortune. 😀

Great to see you and TWC on Sunday. Nice to have an event like this in Somerset and a great day out for £6 on the gate! Archie the dog isn't sorry for sitting on your foot though (he likes doing that!) Keep up the good work, Jim.

Shame BBC doesn't give you some air time for this gem especially in light of the brilliant Bangers & Cash being shown on network TV 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
