CHARLIE my first year of hs, a group of boys used to mock my looks & call me names, they’re the reason I became so insecure. Years later, those same boys, who were not friends with each other anymore, apologized to me privately and some even asked me out. I could not care less what they were doing in the lives at that point but I’m glad they took the time to apologize to me because they were the reason I hate(d) my looks so much & whenever people ask me why I feel so ugly even though everyone thinks I’m pretty, I go back to that story so, I think apologies matters but only from personal experience!! I could not give one fuck about those boys anymore but it’s nice to see people change & learn what they did was wrong

It’s the same way I thought rape and sexual assault was rare until I talked about it with my friends and all of them had some experience with it and some were really really serious. I even found out my boyfriend was molested as a child by his baby sitter.

Stalking would be like a regular occurrence, some of these like a guy showing up at the club you worked at 1 time or if you date and they don't want to break up so they show up and try to get you to go back out with them. Those are creepy/annoying but not exactly "stalking."

I think it depends on the person, for me, I don’t know if this “friend” was stalking me or if they were just being clingy. If calling my mother everyday, keeping track of who I meet and who I’m friends with is stalking then yes, this would not occur everyday. But people looking at someone else’s social media can be stalking for some people too, and that occurs the most for a lot of people.

that's fine when it's objects but people are a bit more complex to track down and own I think.. ?
After being with a guy for over a year, I found out that he was quite aggressive towards his parents. He had always hidden it from me, but one day I came over and his mom was all bruised and the door was literally broken because he slammed his fist in it. His mom told me that her son, my boyfriend, had done that. After that, he no longer tried to hide his aggression toward me so then he also became abusive toward me. He hit me once, and then a few days later I broke up with him and he grabbed me by my jacket and basically just slammed me into a brick wall. I got away, and then the next day my parents were away and the guy was waiting outside my house with a stick. I called my parents, they came home and as soon as he saw their car coming, he left. A week or so later, I went to a friend's party and the guy showed up. My friend never let him in, and after a few hours I left the party. A friend and I cycled home together, but the last few streets I was alone. And in that street, the guy turned out to have been waiting on me for HOURS. He grabbed my wrist and tried to get me off my bike. I fought him off and came home hysterically crying. My dad called the guy's parents and told them that if the guy came near me one more time, police would get involved. Haven't seen him since.

I used to be a stalker, from Kindergarten all the way to my freshman year of high school.
I have Aspergers, so boundaries weren't innately known to me. I thought the kind of stuff I was doing was harmless. To me, it looked like I was pining about my crushes and watching them from afar. When in reality, I was a STALKER. I even remembered one of their dad's license plates one time (I don't remember it now). When I think about it now, I realized that none of the teachers pulled me aside to tell me that what I was doing was wrong. Like if any of the adults told me, I would've stopped much sooner.
I actually woke up to what I was doing and snapped out of it when I brought one of my FRIENDS to watch one of my crushes going home from a window. She told me that this was stalking, and I finally came to. I realized that my behavior was highly inappropriate and I stopped. I have never done it since.

I was never told I had autism but I have a really hard time receiving social cues and boundaries when I was in elementary school and whenever I liked a guy I of course would get rejected then I was secretly stalk him and end up in ALL his social circles, become his friend’s friends’, talk tk his brothers etc and I would give him and his friends money just to like me cause my shitty self esteem and sine he kept talking to me I had NO idea he was still uncomfortable and didn’t pick up on him making fun of me 😅 I stop doing it when I got bullied and thrown into a trash can after school and they called me lady stalker 😂

Ive had a stalker for over 9 years i was 9 at the time and my stalker was 26 last year we had the i dont even know how maniest lawsuit and he is now in a mental institution for at least 3 more years. Ive felt ashamed and scared, ive been in a depression. Never couldve leave my house alone to play with other kids like a kid should in their youth, cause you didnt know where he was. It was in the news and newspapers, i was asked to do a documentary about stalking but i just want to go on with my life and leave that behind me. Its really hard for other people to understand what a victim and their family is going through. Cause you will always live in fear. Ive been bullied and made fun of in the past because of this. Sorry if my english is bad:) i just wanted to share a bit of my story

I started getting stalked and harassed after I broke up with a partner. Lasted ~3 years I was fresh out of hs so I thought all the behavior was normal and my fault. In a way I really thought it was all me because I broke up with someone that was cheating on me. Thinking I deserved the constant harassment at my job, getting followed around. This man even put sugar in my gas tank and more. I quit my job losing out on a promotion, begged my mom to let me move away. It took me always watching over my shoulder and a change in my personality where I’m not as outgoing and more shy. Sad that it’s seen as nothing by police until it’s too late how horrible and terrible. Realistically I’ll never be the same. Never be able to trust, confide or let people in especially when dating. But has also taught me to be more cautious and not naive. Don’t ever wish this on my worst enemy I still have nightmares sometimes but I’m better. 💗
Oh hun 😥 I hope you get a chance to work through that trauma well, whether it be professional help, supportive peers, Internet resources, whatever it takes to be as healthy as possible 💖

@@serenityq26 I fully understand and respect that many people wouldn't want to be contacted by someone that's caused them pain. However, and especially in this climate now that we are far more aware of the pain we can inflict and that back then was normalized, acknowledging you were an asshole can be validating for the other person as well.
@@serenityq26 partially it was my own guilt and partially it was because I learned better so I wanted to apply better. I wasn't a monster tho I wasn't nice and the people that I apologized to still had mutual friends with me. Point is being a minor asshole still affects people's lives and genuine apologies as well as willingness to do right by others going forward meant a lot to them as it wasn't the biggest deal to them anyway.
I had 2 stalkers in high school and now I'm just rude/standoffish in general around new people to avoid future instances.
One would wait outside my class everyday so I would immediately leave to avoid seeing him, then he started showing up before my class ended.. I told the teacher and asked if I could wait in the room/hide in the back for a bit after class ended to avoid seeing him... and eventually he straight up came into the classroom as soon as the bell rang with roses. I told him to stay away from me and he yelled "But I need you! I love you!" All of that because I was friendly when he started a conversation in the hallway the week before.
Second dude was at a new school: I had one class with him and we probably talked twice- about some assignment (his assigned seat was diagonal from me). He started showing up at all my basketball games (including away games) and I would catch him staring at me. I already thought he was creepy and mentioned it to some people but gave him the benefit of the doubt... Maybe he's just really into high school women's basketball...... At some point 2 different people came up to me in the same week and asked if I had a boyfriend.. Apparently for months he had been making up full on stories to all his friends "Oh this weekend I went on a picnic with [me]" "I'm busy this weekend I have plans with [me]" and telling people we were dating and having sex. I freaked out and told my parents and at the next basketball game- he was there as usual and after the game walked with the crowd out the front- afterwards my mom said she saw him in a shadowed section behind a building where I would have walked by. Later we saw him behind the school (the opposite direction from where he left). The next day he found and followed my social media. I reported everything to the counselors and they said "he's probably just socially awkward" and did nothing. And even more crazy: since we just moved to that area my parents were still looking for a house and we almost moved right next door to him... luckily the house had expensive roof problems so it didn't happen but we didn't realize he lived next door till later.

i couldn’t/can’t believe it, but i have been stalked too! when i was like 12 years old (now almost 22) i used to play this kids online game with my friend, and long story short a hacker not only hacked my friend, but managed to find all real life personal information about me, too, because of my resistance to his warnings.. Kept hacking my next accounts for the next 5 months or so, finding extra info about my life and even late night calling to my house phone number and hanging up.
eventually he stopped hunting me after i quit the game.

Everyone has probably been stalked at one point or another without even realizing
I was stalked when I was 14. I only knew I was being stalked because the person stalking me used to send me anonymous text messages describing what I was doing at that moment. I would get these messages all day everyday, no matter what I was doing, even when I was inside my home. I remember being home alone and receiving a message saying “good girls don’t leave their front door unlocked” and when I went to lock the door, it was wide open. To this day I don’t know who it was or why they were doing it.
Also stupidly I never told anyone while it was happening because I was ashamed that it was happening to me!

Yes, for 3 years and it turned out to be the husband of a now ex friend. When I told her that I knew it was him and wanted to give her the opportunity to confront him (because I cared about our friendship), she accused me of liking the attention. We are no longer friends and he's in prison for unrelated reasons.

I remember one time, when I was probably 12 or 13, and I was walking back home from school and suddenly a man started following me. After a minute or so he approached me asking me my name, age and where I lived. Even if I tried to kindly distance myself from him, he kept following me for quite a long time, luckly he stopped before I was near my house. Remembering this now, I wonder why no one tried to help me, since I was obviously scared and creeply followed. There were cars on the road and people here and there walking. But no one did anything.

I felt weird being followed but back then I only thought "Is he begging me for some money?" (He looked kind of messy) and that's why I didn't realize what was actually happening. I didn't see the danger. I was very lucky he stopped following at some point, because I didn't think about going a different direction. Yeah, I was really lucky.
Last year I was hanging out with one of my close friends in the middle of a school at like 1:30 and there was a man following us in his car for like 20 minutes while we were walking around town. So me being a 16 yr old dumbass was treating it like it was a joke till it got real creepy, then me and my bsf ended up waiting infront of a police station for like and 10mins before getting picked up by my dad and my brothers
I had a creepy car driver too. I was 14 or 15. Don't really remember. He followed me like 5 minutes until he drove up to me and asked me old i am. I told him his license plate and he straight up drove away. No clue what he wanted from me, but i had my pepper spray ready to use in my pocked.

I remember a coworker at my old supermarket job being stalked. She was a college student and the stalker was a male customer in his 40s. He insisted on her to "help" him and kept saying really inappropriate things to her. You would see him waiting in a distance and it was REALLY creepy. It got to the point that we had to hide my coworker in the backroom until he left. Eventually my work threaten the police on him and he backed off.

I've never been stalked (who would ever waste time stalking smb like me?) but the idea of it is damn scary, knowning that there's a stranger out there that follows you, calls you, knocks at your door.. It's pure terror
Being stalked is the absolute worst and scariest situation my neighbor is one he followed me religiously for 2 years now its a less often thing made me hate myself still do because I was told it was my fault for talking to him I say hi and what not to most my neighbors but none of them are psychos he would follow me on an almost 2 hr journey to school he would try to talk to me and he would sit next to me on the bus whenever I left the apartment he was right there if he saw me go out or saw me heading back home he would open his door waiting to watch me leave or enter he knocked on my door a few times and he tried following my mom this started when I was 18 ill be 21 soon and he is in his late 40-50s. His behavior affected me so negatively.

in highschool my friend gave her friend “permission” to dm me and i was too nice to say no to his request to get my snapchat. i had no idea what he looked like except that he was a year younger than me at my school. he would send me shit like “you looked thicc today” super cringe stuff but like i didn’t know he even saw me bc he never sent his face. anyways i stopped contacting him, and now he lives in my neighborhood..... not really stalking but just weirded me out for awhile cause for the longest time i had no idea what he looked like but he kept seeing me around school and pointing things specific about my appearance later in the day on snap. he still tries to follow me occasionally on other social media but i end that real quick. i just think it’s disrespectful that he’d make lewd comments to someone he’d never met... and he’s known for doing it to other girls. everyone around him just excuses him.

Of course not but some stalkers think like that. For some it's probably good to tell them that they're ruining your life and if they really want you to be scared if they love you but in other cases the stalker wants power over someone's well being or a "if I can't have you, nobody will." and then that's of course just giving them the satisfaction. It's just an all around toxic behaviour and nobody gains anything from it. If you feel like stalking someone, seek some therapy to work on the why's, don't drag someone else into it. No matter what someone did, nobody "deserves" to be stalked.
To add: Not everyone feels scared when they're being stalked, the dude just wants to know what the people here think, and a good report doesn't just assume things about people

I have been stalked. My sister, her friend, and I went to the park at sunset. We were there for about an hour or so, so we decided to walk back home. About halfway to our house, an old man in a white Mercedes pulled up by us slowly, and started to follow us a bit. He turned the opposite direction as us to make him seem less suspicious. Then, a couple feet from my house, we saw the same headlights of the white mercedes that was following us, and we ran home. Crazy thing was, I saw a white car driving back and fourth down the same road the park was at, and I'm assuming that it was the white mercedes that was following us home. I couldn't sleep that night. I haven't seen him since, and I'm still wondering if he's stalking me.

I was stalked by an old man from age 13-16. He was taking pictures of me and followed me to my house. I didn’t knew it until he told me and that was so scary. He talked to me for over an hour and told me how I give him visions and that I saved him. I didn’t know him he just sang in the church choir for adults and I sang in the youth choir of the same church and we had like one concert together each year but we never talked bevor that. He is very old so I’m not afraid that he could hurt me but I felt so unsafe knowing that someone was watching me for 3 years without me knowing. I’m better now but I’m sorry for everyone who had to go through similar or worse situations! I hope you’ll be able to feel save again. (Sorry for my bad English I’m from Germany)

I've unintentionally stalked my ex when we were in a relationship. I told her that I was on my way to her class to pick her up, the class ended, it got crowded, she was talking to her friend, I didn't want to interrupt so I sent her a text saying that I like the jumpsuit she's wearing without her knowing where I was. I waited at a bench near her class until she was done talking. Seeing stuff like this makes me realize how it can be creepy.
Its soooooo sad how a LOT of them have been stalked and these are just normal ppl and so many of them were stalked like i didnt know it was that common

I have been stalked by numerous people during my short lifetime, and in varying degrees.
The worst that I am aware of was a guy who was slightly older than me who stalked me throughout highschool and the year afterward until I moved. I THINK he has stopped now (since he doesn't get to lavish in my reactions anymore), but he went to far as to try to catfish me (pretending to be a woman, the trying to be friends as that woman).
The lesser degrees have ranged from teenage boys with crushes that go a bit further than is socially acceptable, clingy & strange girls who wanted to be friends (or more?), and adult men. As I get older, I feel I am stalked less. I think my youth played a big part in attracting inappropriate people. especially of older ages, and now that I am an adult I am less desirable.
I think stalking is far too normalized - be it from rom coms or other forms of media... It's okay to inform yourself on people around you (like their general behavior, or the types of company they keep around them), be it people you are dating or otherwise - but letting it get to a point where you cannot keep from obsession or being intrusive isn't okay.

In high school he would come to my house in the middle of the night and say "if you don't come out and get in my car I'm going to wake up your mom and tell her what we have done." I was so scared that I did that for weeks until my mom found out. We tried to get a restraining order but it would have cost hundreds of dollars. So instead my mom went to his work and threatened him. Never heard from him again!

Yes. And it was scary. So when I see movies or TV shows romanticizing stalking, it makes me sad and angry at the same time. Stalking ain't cute. It's been years, but to this day, I am not as nice to people as I use too and that makes me even sadder. I am different and less happy because someone didn't know how to keep boundaries.
