General Tresckow (Kenneth Branagh) attempts to convince Colonel Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) to join him and the others, in order to overthrow Hitler.

At the absolute height of World War II, German generals hatch a daring plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and effectively render the German war machine impotent. Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life mastermind behind the elaborate plot known as Project Valkyrie: a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow his government from the inside. Stauffenberg has been a loyal soldier and an asset to the Reich for his entire military career, but after losing an eye, a hand, and three fingers in an Allied bombing, he reaches a breaking point. One of the reasons why Cruise was eager to be in this movie was his resemblance to Stauffenberg.
Just imagine the courage it took to plot against Hitler. All the while knowing he could have you killed at a moments notice at even the hint of betrayal.

"We have to show the world, that not all of us were like him." That is honestly one of the saddest things in this movie. These guys didn't just want to save their people and their country, they also wanted the world to know that not all Germans were murderous, racist thugs.

Germany was ahead of their time in terms of what they fought to preserve. Look at the world today, who pulls the strings behind the curtains, look at how liberalism ran rampant and what it's caused. What exactly was so bad about what Hitler wanted?
It's ironic that the same man did both Reinhard Heydrich and Henning von Tresckow. And it's insane how he plays each so distinctly that you feel the diff between the psychopath and the honorable soldier.
Watch Hamlet if you haven't already. Kenneth Branagh is a theater artist. Such actors will perform any role they're given to almost perfection.
Ben Kingsley played Eichmann in Operation Finale and Izatkh Stern in Schindlers list, also noticed the parallels
To think Stauffenberg came so close to saving Germany and many more lives from being lost. It frustrating to know that everything could have been different.

@@gammadion Perhaps it could love ended in an truce like what happened at the end othe Great War. Im sure at least the western allies would’ve agreed to a truce over total war with Germany. The Soviets on the other hand were a totally different matter. They wanted revenge for what the Germans did to them, but I’m sure the western allies could’ve consulted with Stalin to agree to a ceasefire. Idk it’s just speculation but it’s still interested to think about.

There is a conspiracy theory about Hitler being a Rothchild plant in an elaborate plot to create Israel. Hint his mother did work for them as a servant the same time he was conceived. It explains WWI and his sudden rise to power but not all the assignation attempts.

Why is the volume so low and at the end, cranked up so high?

I really enjoyed this film.
The plot failed to kill Hitler. 3 reasons.
1. One bomb instead of two. Two would have surely been enough to kill.
2. Stauffenberg had placed his bomb-laden briefcase very close to Hitler. But it was later moved away by someone.
3. The briefing didn't take place in the air-tight bunker. It took place in a gazebo or something like that. The bomb would have caused more damage in the bunker.
4. They didn't have anyone crazy enough to be a suicide bomber.
Making sure that it stayed where it was supposed to stay by having someone crazy enough to stay by Hitler's side when it went off would have sealed the deal.

In all likelihood the new German government would accept occupation by the US/UK for a guaranteed protection from the USSR. And at that point of the war the Soviets had only just pressed into Eastern Poland. So it’s likely if peace broke out we would’ve had a divided Poland instead of a divided Germany.
If this was a success and Hitler was assassinated the Wehrmacht would of seeked out a truce/alliance with the British Empire and the US since they would most likely accept then they would stop the USSR.

Nope. If you enjoy being picky at films that need to reach audiences instead of being 100000% whatever you think they ought to be, then more power to you. The rest of us who don't know German appreciate that we can understand the film and follow it :)

The only thing this movie fails to mention is the intention of the conspirators if they were to succeed. I do really like the movie and Tom Cruise performance but the movie doesn't tell you that they never intended for Germany to become a democracy nor did they intend to agree to an unconditional surrender. They thought they could get a separate peace with the Western powers and continue the war against the Soviets. Claus Von Stauffenberg and many conspirators wanted the return of power to the aristocracy.
@geekyfraulein that's not what I meant, their act was a brave one. Just saying what their intention was is all. Germany wasn't going to become a democracy had they been successful.

Having learned from the ending of WWI, Allied policy was "unconditional surrender". Churchill acknowledged that the Soviets "tore the guts" out of the German army so there was no way a peace on 1 front was going to happen.
@@steamtorch yes that is true but picture from the German side in the moment. It's only natural to cling to hope and false hope at that. They felt that if they were successful in taking out Hitler the Western powers would have been more keen to listen.

Brandon Daniels: One hell of a lot of super well know and respected British actors for this film to have been made “for American audiences “ exclusively, don’t you think?! How about English-literate audiences? Most films want the largest audience possible.
